| 1 Cuando llegó el séptimo mes, los israelitas ya estaban en sus respectivas ciudades y todo el pueblo se congregó en Jerusalén como un solo hombre. | 1 When the seventh month came, and the sons of Israel were in the towns, the people gathered as one man to Jerusalem. |
| 2 Entonces Josué, hijo de Josadac, con sus hermanos los sacerdotes, y Zorobabel, hijo de Sealtiel, con sus hermanos, reconstruyeron el altar del Dios de Israel, para ofrecer sobre él holocaustos, como está escrito en la Ley de Moisés, el hombre de Dios. | 2 Then arose Jeshua the son of Jozadak, with his fellow priests, and Zerubbabel the son of She-alti-el with his kinsmen, and they built the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings upon it, as it is written in the law of Moses the man of God. |
| 3 Erigieron el altar en el mismo lugar donde había estado, a pesar del temor que les inspiraban los habitantes del país, y ofrecieron sobre él holocaustos al Señor, los holocaustos de la mañana y de la tarde. | 3 They set the altar in its place, for fear was upon them because of the peoples of the lands, and they offered burnt offerings upon it to the LORD, burnt offerings morning and evening. |
| 4 También celebraron la fiesta de las Chozas, como está prescrito, ofreciendo diariamente el número de holocaustos fijado para cada día. | 4 And they kept the feast of booths, as it is written, and offered the daily burnt offerings by number according to the ordinance, as each day required, |
| 5 Después ofrecieron el holocausto perpetuo y los holocaustos de los sábados, de los novilunios y de todas las solemnidades dedicadas al Señor, además de lo que cada uno quería ofrecer voluntariamente al Señor. | 5 and after that the continual burnt offerings, the offerings at the new moon and at all the appointed feasts of the LORD, and the offerings of every one who made a freewill offering to the LORD. |
| 6 Desde el primer día del séptimo mes, se comenzó a ofrecer holocaustos al Señor, cuando todavía no se habían puesto los cimientos del Templo del Señor. | 6 From the first day of the seventh month they began to offer burnt offerings to the LORD. But the foundation of the temple of the LORD was not yet laid. |
| 7 Entonces se entregó dinero a los que tallaban la piedra y a los carpinteros, y se mandaron víveres, bebidas y aceite a los sidonios y a los tirios para que enviaran por mar a Jope maderas de cedro del Líbano, conforme a la autorización otorgada por Ciro, rey de Persia. | 7 So they gave money to the masons and the carpenters, and food, drink, and oil to the Sidonians and the Tyrians to bring cedar trees from Lebanon to the sea, to Joppa, according to the grant which they had from Cyrus king of Persia. |
| 8 El segundo año de su llegada al Templo de Dios en Jerusalén, en el segundo mes, Zorobabel, hijo de Sealtiel, y Josué, hijo de Josadac, con el resto de sus hermanos, los sacerdotes, los levitas y todos los que habían vuelto del exilio a Jerusalén, comenzaron la obra y designaron a algunos levitas mayores de veinte años para que dirigieran los trabajos de la Casa del Señor. | 8 Now in the second year of their coming to the house of God at Jerusalem, in the second month, Zerubbabel the son of She-alti-el and Jeshua the son of Jozadak made a beginning, together with the rest of their brethren, the priests and the Levites and all who had come to Jerusalem from the captivity. They appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, to have the oversight of the work of the house of the LORD. |
| 9 Josué, sus hijos y sus hermanos, Cadmiel y sus hijos, y los hijos de Hodavías, se pusieron a dirigir todos juntos a los que trabajaban en la construcción de la Casa de Dios, y lo mismo hicieron los hijos de Jenadad, con sus hijos y sus hermanos los levitas. | 9 And Jeshua with his sons and his kinsmen, and Kadmi-el and his sons, the sons of Judah, together took the oversight of the workmen in the house of God, along with the sons of Henadad and the Levites, their sons and kinsmen. |
| 10 Una vez que los constructores pusieron los cimientos del Templo del Señor, se presentaron los sacerdotes, revestidos y con trompetas, y también los levitas, hijos de Asaf, con sus címbalos, para alabar al Señor, según lo establecido por David, rey de Israel. | 10 And when the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, the priests in their vestments came forward with trumpets, and the Levites, the sons of Asaph, with cymbals, to praise the LORD, according to the directions of David king of Israel; |
| 11 Ellos cantaban al Señor, alabándolo y dándole gracias: «Porque él es bueno, porque es eterno su amor hacia Israel». Y todo el pueblo prorrumpía en grandes aclamaciones, alabando al Señor, porque se ponían los cimientos de la Casa del Señor. | 11 and they sang responsively, praising and giving thanks to the LORD, "For he is good, for his steadfast love endures for ever toward Israel." And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid. |
| 12 Muchos sacerdotes, levitas y jefes de familia, ya ancianos, que habían visto el primer Templo, prorrumpieron en llanto, mientras veían poner los cimientos del nuevo; pero muchos otros proferían aclamaciones de júbilo. | 12 But many of the priests and Levites and heads of fathers' houses, old men who had seen the first house, wept with a loud voice when they saw the foundation of this house being laid, though many shouted aloud for joy; |
| 13 No se podía distinguir entre las aclamaciones de júbilo y el llanto de la gente, porque las aclamaciones del pueblo eran tan grandes que se oían desde lejos. | 13 so that the people could not distinguish the sound of the joyful shout from the sound of the people's weeping, for the people shouted with a great shout, and the sound was heard afar. |
