1 Samuel 22

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Yéndose de allí David se refugió en la caverna de Adullam. Lo supieron sus hermanos y toda la casa de su padre y bajaron allí, junto a él.	1 David left there and took refuge in the Cave of Adul am; his brothers and his father's whole familyheard this and joined him there.
2 Todos los entrampados y desesperados se unieron a él y fue jefe de ellos. Había con él unos cuatrocientos hombres.	2 Al those in distress, al those in debt, al those who had a grievance, gathered round him and hebecame their leader. There were about four hundred men with him.
3 De allí se fue David a Mispé de Moab y dijo al rey de Moab: «Permite que mi padre y mi madre se queden con vosostros hasta que yo sepa qué va a hacer conmigo Dios».	3 From there David went to Mizpah in Moab and said to the king of Moab, 'Allow my father and motherto stay with you until I know what God intends to do for me.'
4 Los dejó con el rey de Moab, y se quedaron con él todo el tiempo que David estuvo en el refugio.	4 He left them with the king of Moab and there they stayed all the time that David was in the stronghold.
5 El profeta Gad dijo a David: «No te quedes en el refugio. Vete y penetra en las tierras de Judá». Partió David y entró en el bosque de Jéret.	5 The prophet Gad, however, said to David, 'Do not stay in the stronghold; leave and make your wayinto the territory of Judah.' David then left and went to the forest of Hereth.
6 Oyó Saúl que David y los hombres que estaban con él habían sido descubiertos. Estaba Saúl en Guibeá, en el alto, debajo del tamarisco, con la lanza en la mano, rodeado de todos sus servidores.	6 When Saul heard that David and the men with him had been discovered, Saul was at Gibeah, seatedunder the tamarisk on the high place, spear in hand, with al his staff standing round him.
7 Dijo Saúl a todos los servidores que le rodeaban: «Oídme todos, benjaminitas: ¿también a cada uno de vosotros os va a dar el hijo de Jesé campos y viñas y os va a nombrar a todos jefes de millares y jefes de cien,	7 'Listen, Benjaminites!' said Saul to them, 'Is the son of Jesse going to give you all fields and vineyardsand make al of you commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds
8 pues conspiráis todos contra mí y no ha habido quien me descubriera la alianza de mi hijo con el hijo de Jesé, nadie que se compadeciera de mí y me avisara que mi hijo hacía que mi servidor atentase contra mí, como ocurre hoy mismo?»	8 that you al conspire against me? No one warned me when my son made a pact with the son of Jesse;none of you felt sorry for me or warned me when my son incited my servant to become my enemy, as he is now.'
9 Respondió Doeg el edomita, que estaba entre los servidores de Saúl: «Yo he visto al hijo de Jesé venir a Nob, donde Ajimélek, hijo de Ajitub.	9 Then, up spoke Doeg the Edomite, who was in command of Saul's staff, 'I saw the son of Jessecoming to Nob, to Ahimelech son of Ahitub.
10 Consultó por él a Yahveh, le dio víveres e incluso llegó a entregarle la espada de Goliat el filisteo».	10 That man consulted Yahweh on his behalf, gave him provisions and also the sword of Goliath thePhilistine.'
11 Mandó el rey llamar al sacerdote Ajimélek, hijo de Ajitub, y a toda la casa de su padre, a los sacerdotes que había en Nob, y vinieron todos donde el rey.	11 The king then sent for the priest Ahimelech son of Ahitub and his whole family, the priests of Nob;they al came to the king.
12 Dijo Saúl: «Oye, hijo de Ajitub». Este respondió: «Aquí estoy, mi señor».	12 Saul said, 'Now listen, son of Ahitub!' He replied, 'Here I am, my lord.'
13 Díjole Saúl: «¿Por qué conspiráis contra mí tú y el hijo de Jesé, pues le diste pan y una espada y consultaste a Dios por él, para que se alzase contra mí, como ahora está sucediendo?»	13 'Why have you conspired against me,' said Saul, 'you and the son of Jesse, giving him bread and asword and consulting God on his behalf, for him to rebel against me as is now the case?'
14 Respondió Ajimélek al rey: «¿Y quién, entre todos tus servidores, es como David, el fiel, el yerno del rey y el jefe de tu guardia personal y honrado en tu propia casa?	14 Ahimelech replied to the king, 'Of al those in your service, who is more loyal than David son-in-law tothe king, captain of your bodyguard, honoured in your household?
15 ¿Es que he comenzado hoy a consultar a Dios por él? ¡Líbreme Dios! No achaque el rey a su siervo y a toda la casa de mi padre una cosa tal porque nada sabe tu siervo de esto, ni poco ni mucho».	15 Was today the first time I ever consulted God on his behalf? Indeed it was not! The king has nogrounds for bringing any charge against his servant or against his whole family, for your servant knew nothingwhatever about al this.'
16 Respondió el rey: «Vas a morir, Ajimélek, tú y toda la casa de tu padre».	16 The king retorted, 'You must die, Ahimelech, you and your whole family.'
17 Dijo pues el rey a los corredores que estaban a su lado: «Acercaos y dad muerte a los sacerdotes de Yahveh porque también su mano está con David y, sabiendo que él huía, no me lo hicieron saber». Pero los servidores del rey no quisieron alzar su mano para herir a los sacerdotes de Yahveh.	17 The king said to the scouts who were standing round him, 'Forward! and put the priests of Yahweh todeath, for they too are on David's side, they knew that he was escaping, yet did not warn me of it.' The king'sprofessional soldiers, however, would not lift a hand to strike the priests of Yahweh.
18 Dijo, pues, el rey a Doeg: «Acércate tú y hiere a los sacerdotes». Acercóse Doeg el edomita y él mismo hirió a los sacerdotes; mató aquel día a 85 hombres que llevaban efod de lino.	18 The king then said to Doeg, 'Forward, you! Fall on the priests!' Doeg the Edomite stepped forwardand fel on the priests, himself that day kil ing eighty-five men who wore the linen ephod.
19 Saúl pasó a filo de espada a Nob, la ciudad de los sacerdotes, hombres, mujeres, niños y lactantes, bueyes, asnos y ovejas, todos a cuchillo.	19 Nob, the town of the priests, Saul put to the sword: men and women, children and infants, cattle,donkeys and sheep.
20 Pudo escapar un hijo de Ajimélek, hijo de Ajitub, llamado Abiatar, y huyó donde David.	20 One son of Ahimelech son of Ahitub alone escaped. His name was Abiathar, and he fled away to joinDavid.
21 Abiatar notificó a David que Saúl había dado muerte a los sacerdotes de Yahveh.	21 When Abiathar told David that Saul had slaughtered the priests of Yahweh,
22 David dijo a Abiatar: «Ya sabía yo aquel día que, estando allí Doeg el edomita, no dejaría de avisar a Saúl. Yo soy el responsable de todas las vidas de la casa de tu padre.	22 David said to Abiathar, 'I knew, that day when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would be sure toinform Saul. I am responsible for the death of all your kinsmen.
23 Quédate conmigo y no temas, que quien busca tu muerte busca la mía, y junto a mí estarás bien custodiado».	23 Stay with me, do not be afraid, for he who seeks your life seeks mine; you wil be safe with me.'
