1 Dopo la morte di Iosuè sì domandarono i figliuoli d' Israel consiglio da Dio Signore, e dissero: chi anderà dinanzi da noi, e sarà nostro capitano (e guidatore dell' oste) contro al Cananeo?	1 Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the LORD, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?
2 E disse Iddio Signore: Giuda sarà quello il quale sarà vostro duca (e capitano e guidatore); ecco ch' io v' hoe dato il Cananeo nelle vostre mani.	2 And the LORD said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.
3 E disse Giuda a Simeone suo fratello: vieni meco in mia compagnia, e combatti meco contro il Cananeo, e io verrò teco (in tua compagnia) ad acquistare la parte tua. E andò con lui Simeone.	3 And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.
4 E andò Giuda, e diede Iddio Signore nelle sue mani il Cananeo e il Ferezeo; e uccisono in Bezec diecimilia uomini.	4 And Judah went up; and the LORD delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men.
5 E trovarono Adonibezec in Bezec, e sì combatterono contra lui; e sì isconfissero (con esso lui insieme e uccisono) il Cananeo e il Ferezeo.	5 And they found Adoni-bezek in Bezek: and they fought against him, and they slew the Canaanites and the Perizzites.
6 Ma Adonibezec sì fuggì; e sì gli è ito dietro; e sì lo presono, e sì gli tagliarono tutte le dita delle mani e de' piedi.	6 But Adoni-bezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.
7 E disse Adonibezec: settanta re, i quali aveano tutti tagliate le dita delle mani e de' piedi, (e istavano e) ricoglievano (gli minuzzoli del pane e) quello che rimanea de' cibi della mensa mia: così come io feci, così m' hae renduto ora Iddio Signore. E sì lo menarono in Ierusalem, e quivi si morì.	7 And Adoni-bezek said, Threescore and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered their meat under my table: as I have done, so God hath requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.
8 E combattendo i figliuoli di Giuda Ierusalem, sì la pigliarono e cacciàrola a terra, mettendola tutta al fuoco e (gli uomini e le femine) alle punta delle coltella.	8 Now the children of Judah had fought against Jerusalem, and had taken it, and smitten it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.
9 E poi vegnendo più giuso, combatterono contro al Cananeo, il quale abitava suso alle montagne, e dalla parte del mezzodì, e nelle pianure.	9 And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelt in the mountain, and in the south, and in the valley.
10 E andando Giuda contro al Cananeo, il quale abitava in Ebron; il cui nome anticamente si chiamava Cariatarbe; sì isconfisse (e uccise) Sesai e Aiman e Tolmai.	10 And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron: (now the name of Hebron before was Kirjath-arba:) and they slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.
11 E partito quindi, sì andò agli abitatori (della città) di Dabir, il cui nome si era anticamente Cariat Sefer, cioè cittade delle lettere.	11 And from thence he went against the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjath-sepher:
12 E disse Caleb: chi (isconfiggerà e) piglierà Cariat Sefer, e sì guasterà quella, io sì gli darò Asa, mia figliuola, per moglie.	12 And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjath-sepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.
13 E avendola presa Otoniel figliuolo di Cenez, fratello minore di Caleb, e' si gli diede la sua figliuola per moglie.	13 And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.
14 La quale andando per la via, sì la (ammaestrò e) ammonì il marito suo, ch' ella domandasse (e chiedesse) al padre suo uno campo. La quale sospirando, (istando) e sedendo in su l'asino, sì le disse Caleb: che hai tu?	14 And it came to pass, when she came to him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted from off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wilt thou?
15 E quella respuose: dàmmi alcuna benedizione; imperciò che tu m' hai data terra arida (e secca), dàmmi ancora terra con rivi d'acqua. E dielle Caleb uno rivo di sopra e uno rivo di sotto.	15 And she said unto him, Give me a blessing: for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.
16 Ma i figliuoli di Cineo, cognato di Moisè, sì partirono suso della città delle palme, coi figliuoli di Giuda, nel deserto della sorte sua, il quale è dal mezzodì di Arad, e sì abitarono con lui.	16 And the children of the Kenite, Moses' father in law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which lieth in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people.
17 E andò Giuda insieme con Simeone suo fratello, e sì isconfissono insieme il Cananeo il quale abitava in Sefaat, e sì lo uccisono. E fue chiamato il nome suo della città ORMA, cioè (città) iscomunicata.	17 And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.
18 E pigliò Giuda Gaza colli suoi confini, e anco Ascalone, e ancora Accarone co' suoi confini.	18 Also Judah took Gaza with the coast thereof, and Askelon with the coast thereof, and Ekron with the coast thereof.
19 E fu Iddio con Giuda, e tutte le montagne possedette; e non poteo ispegnere gli abitatori della valle, imperciò che abbondavano i carri che aveano alle ruote coltella taglienti.	19 And the LORD was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.
20 E diedero a Caleb la cittade di Ebron, sì come avea detto Moisè; il quale sì ne spense tre figliuoli di Enac.	20 And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses said: and he expelled thence the three sons of Anak.
21 Ma il Jebuseo, abitatore di Jerusalem, non ispenseno i figliuoli di Beniamin; e abitò il Iebuseo, insieme co' figliuoli di Beniamin, in Ierusalem insino al dì d'oggi.	21 And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day.
22 E la casa di Iosef sì andò suso in Betel, e fue Iddio con loro.	22 And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Bethel: and the LORD was with them.
23 Ma quando assediavano la città, la quale prima si chiamava Luza,	23 And the house of Joseph sent to descry Bethel. (Now the name of the city before was Luz.)
24 videro uno uomo che usciva della città, e sì gli dissero mostraci l'entrada della città; farèmoti misericordia.	24 And the spies saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said unto him, Shew us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will shew thee mercy.
25 Il quale avendola loro mostrata, sì (entrarono dentro, e) presono la cittade, e ogni gente misono alle punta delle coltella; ma quello uomo, con tutto il suo parentado, sì lasciarono andare.	25 And when he shewed them the entrance into the city, they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let go the man and all his family.
26 Il quale, lasciato, se n' andò nella terra di Ettim; e quivi sì edificò una cittade, e sì la chiamò Luza; la quale così si chiama insino al dì d' oggi.	26 And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz: which is the name thereof unto this day.
27 E Manasse non guastò, Betsan e Tanac con le ville sue, e gli abitatori di Dor e di Ieblaam e di Mageddo colle ville sue; incominciò il Cananeo ad abitare con loro.	27 Neither did Manasseh drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shean and her towns, nor Taanach and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns: but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.
28 E poi che sì fu confortato (e riposato) Israel, si gli fece suoi tributarii; nè non gli volse ispegnere (nè uccidere).	28 And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly drive them out.
29 E ancora Efraim non uccise il Cauaneo il quale abitava in Gazer, ma abitò con esso (loro).	29 Neither did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.
30 Zabulon non ispense (e cacciò a terra nè uccise) gli abitatori di Cetron e di Naalol; ma abitò (e istette) il Cananeo nel mezzo di loro, e diventò suo tributario.	30 Neither did Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries.
31 Ancora Aser non ispense (e non uccise) gli abitatori di Acco e di Sidone e di Aalab e di Acazib, di Elba e di Afec e di Roob;	31 Neither did Asher drive out the inhabitants of Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob:
32 e abitò (Aser) nel mezzo del Cananeo, abitatore di quella terra, e non lo uccise.	32 But the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: for they did not drive them out.
33 E Neftali ancora non ispense (nè uccise) gli abitatori di Betsames e di Betanat; e abitò (Neftali) tra il Cananeo abitatore di quella terra, e furongli suoi tributarii i Betsamiti e' Betaniti.	33 Neither did Naphtali drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth-anath; but he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and of Beth-anath became tributaries unto them.
34 E strinse l' Amorreo i figliuoli di Dan in sul monte, e non dièdono loro luogo, che potessono venire giuso ne' piani;	34 And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the mountain: for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley:
35 e abitò nel monte di ARES, il quale tanto viene a dire quanto testimonianza, in Aialon e Salebim. E aggravò Iosef e la casa sua [la mano] (sopra l'Amorreo), e fue suo tributario.	35 But the Amorites would dwell in mount Heres in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became tributaries.
36 E fue il termine degli Amorrei del salire della pietra dello scorpione e tutti i luoghi di sopra.	36 And the coast of the Amorites was from the going up to Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.
