Seconda Epistola di Santo Paulo a Timoteo 2

BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Dunque tu, figliuolo mio, confòrtati nella grazia la quale è in Iesù Cristo.	1 As for you, my dear son, take strength from the grace which is in Christ Jesus.
2 E quelle cose che tu udisti di me per molti testimonii, quelle commenda (e conferma) alli uomini fedeli, i quali saranno idonei per ammaestrare gli altri.	2 Pass on to reliable people what you have heard from me through many witnesses so that they in turn wilbe able to teach others.
3 Lavora sì come buono cavaliere di Cristo.	3 Bear with your share of difficulties, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
4 Chè niuno che faccia cavalleria a Dio servendoli, non s' imbriga delle cose secolari, perchè piaccia a colui al quale s'è provato (cioè votato).	4 No one on active service involves himself in the affairs of civilian life, because he must win the approvalof the man who enlisted him;
5 Chè quelli che combatterà nella battaglia, non sarà coronato, s' egli legittimamente non combatterà.	5 or again someone who enters an athletic contest wins only by competing in the sports -- a prize can bewon only by competing according to the rules;
6 Lavorando il lavoratore, mestieri è che prima riceva de' frutti.	6 and again, it is the farmer who works hard that has the first claim on any crop that is harvested.
7 Intendi quelle cose che dico; chè il Signore darà a te intendimento in tutte le cose.	7 Think over what I have said, and the Lord wil give you ful understanding.
8 Ricordati che il Signore nostro Iesù Cristo resuscitò da morte, e fu della schiatta di David, secondo il mio evangelio,	8 Remember the gospel that I carry, 'Jesus Christ risen from the dead, sprung from the race of David';
9 nel qual io lavoro insino alli legami della pregione, secondo che malfattore; ma la parola di Dio non è allegata.	9 it is on account of this that I have to put up with suffering, even to being chained like a criminal. ButGod's message cannot be chained up.
10 Imperò (che) tutte quelle cose sostengo per li eletti, perchè egli pervengano alla salute, la qual è in Iesù Cristo, colla celestiale gloria.	10 So I persevere for the sake of those who are chosen, so that they, too, may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
11 Fedele parola: (intendi) chè se noi siamo morti con Cristo, con lui insieme viveremo;	11 Here is a saying that you can rely on: If we have died with him, then we shal live with him.
12 e se sosterremo passione con lui, insieme. regneremo; e se noi negheremo lui, ed egli negherà noi;	12 If we persevere, then we shal reign with him. If we disown him, then he wil disown us.
13 e se noi non credemo, egli sempre è fedele; e non può negare sè medesimo.	13 If we are faithless, he is faithful still, for he cannot disown his own self.
14 Queste cose ammaestra, [rendendo] testimonianza dinanzi a Dio. Non contendere di parole; chè a niuna cosa non è utile, se non a (danno e) avversione degli uditori.	14 Remind them of this; and tell them in the name of God that there must be no wrangling about words: althat this ever achieves is the destruction of those who are listening.
15 Studiosamente abbi cura [di presentare] te medesimo a Dio, secondo che provato operatore (e non secondo che isvergognato e vituperato), e dirittamente tratta la parola della verità.	15 Make every effort to present yourself before God as a proven worker who has no need to be ashamed,but who keeps the message of truth on a straight path.
16 E schifa le malvagie parole e le vane, le quali fan molto crescere altrui nel male.	16 Have nothing to do with godless philosophical discussions -- they only lead further and further awayfrom true religion.
17 La parola di coloro sta nascosta, come il granchio tra l'erbaio. Le quali parole dicono Imeneo e Fileto,	17 Talk of this kind spreads corruption like gangrene, as in the case of Hymenaeus and Philetus,
18 li quali son partiti della verità, dicendo che la resurrezione è già fatta; così rivolsono la fede d'alquanti.	18 the men who have gone astray from the truth, claiming that the resurrection has already taken place.They are upsetting some people's faith.
19 Ma il fermo fondamento di Dio sta (fermo e) permanente, abiendo questo segno: il Signore conosce coloro che son suoi; e partasi dalla iniquità colui che ama il nome del Signore.	19 However, God's solid foundation-stone stands firm, and this is the seal on it: 'The Lord knows thosewho are his own' and 'Al who cal on the name of the Lord must avoid evil.'
20 Chè nella grande casa, non solamente son vaselli d'oro e d'argento, ma eziandio di legno e di terra; e alquanti son posti a onore, e alquanti a disonore.	20 Not al the dishes in a large house are made of gold and silver; some are made of wood orearthenware: the former are held in honour, the latter held cheap.
21 Adunque quelli che (si guarderà e) netterassi da questi mali, sarà vasello da onore, santificato e utile a Dio, e apparecchiato a ogni buona opera.	21 If someone holds himself aloof from these faults I speak of, he wil be a vessel held in honour,dedicated and fit for the Master, ready for any good work.
22 Fuggi li desiderii de' giovani; e va dopo la giustizia, e dopo la fede, e dopo la pace, e dopo la carità, con coloro che amano il Signore con puro cuore.	22 Turn away from the passions of youth, concentrate on uprightness, faith, love and peace, in union withal those who cal on the Lord with a pure heart.
23 Schifa le stolte questioni e senza disciplina, sapiendo che partoriscono brighe (e tenzoni).	23 Avoid these foolish and undisciplined speculations, understanding that they only give rise to quarrels;
24 Al servo di Dio non conviene a contenzionare; anzi dee essere mansueto ad ogni uomo, e ammaestrato e paziente.	24 and a servant of the Lord must not engage in quarrels, but must be kind to everyone, a good teacher,and patient.
25 E dee riprendere con temperanza coloro che resistono alla verità, chè alcuna fiata per la ventura Dio darà pentimento a coloro di conoscere la verità,	25 He must be gentle when he corrects people who oppose him, in the hope that God may give them achange of mind so that they recognise the truth
26 e di partirsi dalli laccioli del diavolo, dal quale son tenuti legati alla volontà di colui.	26 and come to their senses, escaping the trap of the devil who made them his captives and subjectedthem to his will.
