1 Allora Iesù parlò alle turbe e alli discepoli suoi,	1 Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,
2 dicendo sopra la cattedra di Moisè siedono li Scribi e-li Farisei.	2 Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat:
3 E ciò ch' egli vi dicono, osservate e fate; ma secondo l'opere loro non vogliate fare; imperò che egli dicono, e non fanno.	3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.
4 E alligano le cose gravi e li pesi importabili, e pongonli nelle spalle degli uomini; ma egli con dito loro non le vogliono movere.	4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.
5 E ogni loro opera fanno, acciò siano veduti dalli uomini; fanno le loro filatterie molto lunghe, e molto le dilatano, e fanno molti grandi li orli delle loro gonnelle.	5 But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,
6 Amano nelle cene esser posti in capo di tavola; vogliono sedere nelle sinagoghe nelle prime sedie.	6 And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,
7 E vogliono esser salutati nel mercato, ed esser chiamati dagli uomini, maestri.	7 And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.
8 Ma voi non vogliate essere chiamati maestri; imperò che uno è il maestro, e voi siete tutti fratelli.	8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.
9 E non vogliate chiamare alcuno padre sopra la terra; imperò che uno è il vostro Padre, il quale è in cielo.	9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
10 E non vogliate essere chiamati maestri; imperò che uno è il maestro vostro, Cristo.	10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.
11 E colui che è vostro maggiore, sia vostro (servitore e) ministro.	11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.
12 E chi si esaltarà, sarà umiliato; e chi si umiliarà sarà esaltato.	12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
13 Ma guai a voi, Scribi e Farisei ipocriti, li quali chiudete il regno de' cieli dinanzi alli uomini; perchè voi non entrate, e non lasciate entrare li entranti.	13 But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.
14 Guai a voi, Scrivani e Farisei falsi, che manicate le case delle vedore (e dei pupilli), con lunga orazione orando; e per questo riceverete maggior giudizio.	14 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.
15 Guai a voi, Scribi e Farisei ipocriti, li quali circondate il mare e la terra, perchè convertiate uno (dal paganesimo in iudaico); e quando sarà stato fatto iudeo, voi il facete figliuolo del diavolo in duplo più di voi.	15 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.
16 Guai a voi, guidatori del cieco, li quali dicete qualunque giurerà per il tempio di Dio, ha giurato niente; ma chi giurerà nell' auro del tempio, è debitore.	16 Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor!
17 O pazzi e ciechi! Qual cosa è maggiore? l'auro, ovver il tempio che santifica l'auro?	17 Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?
18 E qualunque giurerà nell' altare, non è obbligato; ma qualunque giurerà nell' offerta ch' è sopra quello, è obbligato.	18 And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty.
19 Ciechi! Qual è maggiore? la offerta, ovvero l'altare che santifica quella?	19 Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?
20 Onde chi giura nell' altare, giura in quello e in tutte quelle cose che sono sopra quello.	20 Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.
21 E chi giura per il tempio, giura in quello e in colui che abita in esso.	21 And whoso shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.
22 E chi giura nel cielo, giura nel trono di Dio e in quello che siede sopra lui.	22 And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.
23 Guai a voi, Scribi e Farisei ipocriti, li quali decimate la menta e l'aneto e il cimino, e avete lasciate quelle cose che sono più gravi della legge, cioè il giudicio e la misericordia e la fede; questo era bisogno di fare, e quello non lassare.	23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
24 O guidatori di ciechi, onorate la zanzala e inghiottite il cammello.	24 Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.
25 Guai a voi, Scribi e Farisei ipocriti, li quali mondate quel che è di fuori del calice e della scodella, e dentro siete pieni di rapina e di immondizia.	25 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.
26 O Fariseo, monda prima quel ch' è dentro del calice e della scodella, acciò che quel ch' è di fuori sia fatto mondo.	26 Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.
27 Guai a voi, Scribi e Farisei ipocriti, li quali siete simili alli sepolcri imbiancati (di fuori), li quali appaiono belli di fuori alli uomini, ma dentro sono pieni di ossa di morti, e di ogni immondizia.	27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.
28 Così siete voi, che alli uomini apparite di fuori giusti; ma dentro siete pieni d'ipocrisia e di iniquità.	28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
29 Guai a voi, Scribi e ipocriti Farisei, li quali edificate li sepolcri de' profeti, e ornate li monumenti de' giusti.	29 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,
30 E dicete se fossimo stati ne' giorni de' padri nostri, non saremmo compagni nella uccisione de' profeti.	30 And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.
31 Di che voi stessi siete in testimonio; imperò che siete figliuoli di coloro che hanno uccisi li profeti.	31 Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.
32 E voi adempite la mensura de' vostri padri.	32 Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.
33 O serpenti, generazione di vipere, che non potete fuggire dal giudicio della fiamma dei fuoco infernale!	33 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?
34 Imperò ( ch' ) io vi mando li profeti e li sapienti e li scribi; e voi li uccidete e crucifiggete e flagellate nelle sinagoghe vostre, e perseguitateli da città in città,	34 Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:
35 acciò che venga sopra di voi ogni sangue giusto, ch' è sparso sopra della terra, dal sangue di Abel giusto insino al sangue di Zacaria, figliuolo di Barachia, il quale voi uccideste infra il tempio e l'altare.	35 That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.
36 E imperò in verità vi dico, che ogni cosa sopra verrà a questa generazione.	36 Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.
37 O Ierusalem, che uccidi li profeti, e lapidi coloro che a te sono mandati, quante volte ho vogliuto io radunare li tuoi figliuoli, a modo che la gallina aduna sotto le ali li suoi pulcini, e non hai voluto?	37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
38 Ecco che la vostra casa vi fia lasciata deserta.	38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.
39 E imperò vi dico, che oggi mai non mi vederete più, insino a tanto che voi (mi) direte: benedetto è chi viene nel nome del Signore.	39 For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
