BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Non ti allegrare nelli figliuoli rei, s' egli multiplicheranno; non ti dilettare sopra loro, se il timore di Dio non è con loro.	1 Desire not a brood of worthless children, nor rejoice in wicked offspring.
2 Non credere nella vita loro, e non guardare nelle loro fatiche.	2 Many though they be, exult not in them if they have not the fear of the LORD.
3 Migliore è uno che tema Iddio, che mille rei figliuoli.	3 Count not on their length of life, have no hope in their future. For one can be better than a thousand; rather die childless than have godless children!
4 Più utile è morire sanza figliuoli, che lasciarli rei e malvagi.	4 Through one wise man can a city be peopled; through a clan of rebels it becomes desolate.
5 La patria fia abitata da uno savio; e fia abbandonata da tre cattivi.	5 Many such things has my eye seen, even more than these has my ear heard.
6 Molte altre cose vidde l'occhio mio, e più fatti di questi udie l'orecchio mio.	6 Against a sinful band fire is enkindled, upon a godless people wrath flames out.
7 Il fuoco arderae nella sinagoga delli peccanti, e l'ira arderae nella gente incredibile.	7 He forgave not the leaders of old who rebelled long ago in their might;
8 Li antichi giganti non adorarono per li peccati loro, i quali furono distrutti confidandosi nella loro forza.	8 He spared not the neighbors of Lot whom he detested for their pride;
9 E Dio non perdonò loro per che fussono in altrui terra; ma percosseli e maledisseli per la superbia del loro parlare.	9 Nor did he spare the doomed people who were uprooted because of their sin;
10 Non ebbe misericordia di loro, uccidendo tutta quella gente che si esaltava nelli loro peccati.	10 Nor the six hundred thousand foot soldiers who perished for the impiety of their hearts.
11 E sì come di secento milia pedoni, ch' essi radunarono nella durizia del cuore suo; e se uno solo ne fosse issuto superbo, maraviglia sarebbe stato s'elli fosse scampato (sanza essere punito).	11 And had there been but one stiffnecked man, it were a wonder had he gone unpunished. For mercy and anger alike are with him who remits and forgives, though on the wicked alights his wrath.
12 Misericordia ed ira è con lui; potente è la biastemma e spandente l'ira.	12 Great as his mercy is his punishment; he judges men, each according to his deeds.
13 Secondo la misericordia sua, così fia lo castigamento; l' uomo è giudicato secondo le opere sue.	13 A criminal does not escape with his plunder; a just man's hope God does not leave unfulfilled.
14 Lo peccatore non scamperà nella rapina, eziandio se la sofferenza indugerae coloro che fanno misericordia.	14 Whoever does good has his reward, which each receives according to his deeds.
15 Ogni misericordia farà luogo [a ciascuno] secondo li meriti delle opere sue, e secondo lo intendimento della peregrinazione sua.	15 Say not: "I am hidden from God; in heaven who remembers me? Among so many people I cannot be known; what am I in the world of spirits?
16 Non dire: io mi nasconderoe da Dio, e chi Idi cielo si ricorderae di me?	16 Behold, the heavens, the heaven of heavens, the earth and the abyss tremble at his visitation;
17 Io non sarò conosciuto nel grande popolo; o che è l'anima mia in tante innumerabili creature?	17 The roots of the mountains, the earth's foundations, at his mere glance, quiver and quake.
18 Ecco il cielo [e i cieli] delli cieli, il mare e tutta la terra, e quelle cose che sono in essa si commoveranno nel conspetto suo.	18 Of me, therefore, he will take no thought; with my ways who will concern himself?
19 Li monti e insiememente li colli e le fondamenta della terra, quando Iddio li guaterae, per la paura si dibatteranno.	19 If I sin, no eye will see me; if all in secret I am disloyal, who is to know?
20 E in tutte queste cose è cuore sanza sentimento; e ogni cuore è inteso da colui.	20 Who tells him of just deeds and what could I expect for doing my duty?"
21 Or chi intende le vie di Dio? Chi intende la tempesta, la quale non vede l'occhio dell' uomo?	21 Such are the thoughts of senseless men, which only the foolish knave will think.
22 Molte sue opere sono ascose a noi; ma chi annunzierà le opere della sua giustizia? Or chi lo sosterrà? Da lungi è il testamento d' alquanti; e la domanda delli uomini è in finire.	22 Hearken to me, my son, take my advice, apply your mind to my words,
23 Colui che diminuisce nel suo cuore pensa cose vane; e l'uomo sciocco ed errante pensa le cose stolte.	23 While I propose measured wisdom, and impart accurate knowledge.
24 Odimi, figliuolo, e appara la disciplina del senno; e nel cuore tuo attendi le mie parole.	24 When at the first God created his works and, as he made them, assigned their tasks,
25 E parlerotti con ammaestramento e dirittura, e cercaroe di narrarti sapienza; e alle parole mie attendi col cuore tuo, e dicoti in dirittura li spiriti della virtude, che Iddio pose nelle opere sue dal cominciamento, e nella veritade dico la scienza sua.	25 He ordered for all time what they were to do and their domains from generation to generation. They were not to hunger, nor grow weary, nor ever cease from their tasks.
26 E nel giudicio di Dio furono le opere sue dal principio; dalla formazione degli uomini distinse la loro parte, e li cominciamenti disse nelle genti sue.	26 Not one should ever crowd its neighbor, nor should they ever disobey his word.
27 Adornò in eterno le opere di coloro; nè ebbono fame, nè lavorarono, e non cessarono delle opere sue.	27 Then the LORD looked upon the earth, and filled it with his blessings.
28 Ciascuno non angoscerae il prossimo suo infino nel secolo.	28 Its surface he covered with all manner of life which must return into it again.
29 Non essere incredibile alla parola sua.
30 Dopo queste cose Iddio guardoe in terra, ed empiella de' suoi beni.
31 Ogni anima vitale denunzioe inanzi la faccia di colui, e ancora il ritornamento medesimo di coloro.
