BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 L'ira di Dio sanza misericordia venne sopra li malvagi di qui all' ultimo. E sapea bene dinanzi quelle cose che doveano avvenire di coloro.	1 But the godless were assailed by merciless anger to the very end, for he knew beforehand what theywould do,
2 Però ch' elli (sarebbono ritornati e) averebbono consentito ch' elli andassono, e con grande sollecitudine averebbono mandati inanzi, e seguitavano loro pentiti (di averli lasciati uscire).	2 how, after letting his people leave and hastening their departure, they would change their minds andgive chase.
3 Ancora avendo tra le mani il pianto, e piagnendo alli monumenti de' morti, presono altre cose per pensiero di sciocchezza; e quelli ch' elli pregando aveano cacciati via, li perseguitavano come fuggitivi.	3 They were actual y stil conducting their mourning rites and lamenting at the tombs of their dead, whenanother mad scheme came into their heads and they set out to pursue, as though runaways, the people whomthey had expel ed and begged to go.
4 E menavali a questo fine la degna necessitade; e perdeano la ricordanza di quelle cose erano state, acciò che coloro che non erano stati tormentati, il punimento li riempiesse;	4 A wel -deserved fate urged them to this extreme and made them forget what had already happened,so that they would add to their torments the one punishment outstanding
5 e il popolo tuo maravigliosamente trapassasse, ma coloro trovassono nuova morte.	5 and, while your people were experiencing a journey contrary to al expectations, would themselvesmeet an extraordinary death.
6 Ogni creatura dal cominciamento si risomigliava dalla sua schiatta, obbedendo li tuoi comandamenti, acciò che li servidori tuoi fussono conservati sani e salvi.	6 For the whole creation, submissive to your commands, had its very nature re-created, so that yourchildren should be preserved from harm.
7 Però che il nuvolo faceva ombra alle loro tende e campi, e dove prima era acqua apparve terra secca, e nel mare rosso via sanza impedimento, e campo germogliante del grande profondo,	7 Overshadowing the camp there was the cloud; where there had been water, dry land was seen to rise;the Red Sea became an unimpeded way, the tempestuous waves, a green plain;
8 per lo quale ogni gente passoe, la quale era difesa dalla tua mano, vedendo le tue maraviglie e segni.	8 sheltered by your hand, the whole nation passed across, gazing at these amazing prodigies.
9 E sì come cavalli si pascerono, e sì come agnelli si rallegrorono, magnificando te, Signore, che liberasti loro.	9 They were like horses at pasture, they skipped like lambs, singing your praises, Lord, their deliverer.
10 Però ch' elli si ricordavano di quelle cose che erano fatte, sì come per generazione d' animali la terra produsse la mosca, e il fiume gittoe fuori, per pesce, moltitudine di rane.	10 For they stil remembered the events of their exile, how the land had bred mosquitoes instead ofanimals and the River had disgorged mil ions of frogs instead of fish.
11 Ultimamente vidono nuova creatura d' uccelli, quando tratti dalla concupiscenza chiesono cibi da convito.	11 Later they were to see a new way for birds to come into being, when, goaded by greed, theydemanded something tasty,
12 Nello ragionamento loro venne loro dal mare la coturnice; e sopravennono alli peccatori turbamenti, non sanza quelli che erano stati fatti prima, per forza di fiumi; giustamente erano afflitti secondo le loro nequizie.	12 and quails came up out of the sea to satisfy them.
13 Però che elli ordinaro cose abbominevoli delli loro albergatori; altri non ricettavano li non conosciuti forestieri, altri pigliavano li buoni ospiti in servigio.	13 On the sinners, however, punishments rained down not without violent thunder as early warning; andthey suffered what their own crimes had justly deserved since they had shown such bitter hatred to foreigners.
14 E non solamente faceano queste cose, ma ancora v'era un altro rispetto di loro; per [che] contra loro voglia ricettavano li strani.	14 Others, indeed, had failed to welcome strangers who came to them, but the Egyptians had enslavedtheir own guests and benefactors.
15 Ma coloro che con letizia li ricettavano, coloro che usavano quelle crudelissime leggi afflissono di dolori.	15 The sinners, moreover, will certainly be punished for it, since they gave the foreigners a hostilewelcome;
16 Elli furono percossi di cecitade; sì come quelli giusti nelle porte, conciosia cosa che fussono coperti di subite tenebre, ciascuno cercava il limitare dell' uscio suo.	16 but the latter, having given a festive reception to people who already shared the same rights asthemselves, later overwhelmed them with terrible labours.
17 Li elementi si convertono in sè, sì come il suono si muta nella qualità dello stromento, e tutte le cose guardano il loro suono: onde stimare si puote per quello certo viso.	17 Hence they were struck with blindness, like the sinners at the gate of the upright, when, yawningdarkness all around them, each had to grope his way through his own door.
18 Però che le cose de' campi si convertivano in cose acquatiche; e qualunque erano che notassono, si convertiano in terrestri.	18 A new attuning of the elements occurred, as on a harp the notes may change their rhythm, though althe while preserving the same tone; and this is just what happened:
19 Il fuoco ardeva nell' acqua sopra la sua possa, e l'acqua si dimenticava la sua stignente naturazon zamp on6ood moneloz non	19 land animals became aquatic, swimming ones took to the land,
20 E d'altra parte le fiamme non mossono le carni delli corruttibili animali che andavano insieme, nè dissolvettono quello che di lieve si disfae sì come il ghiaccio. In tutte le cose magnificasti il popolo tuo, Signore, e onorificastilo, e non lo disprezzasti in alcuno tempo, e apparecchiasti il suo adiutorio in ogni luogo.	20 fire reinforced its strength in water, and water forgot the power of extinguishing it;
	21 flames, on the other hand, did not char the flesh of delicate animals that ventured into them; nor didthey melt the heavenly food resembling ice and as easily melted.
	22 Yes, Lord, in every way you have made your people great and glorious; you have never failed to helpthem at any time or place.
