BIBBIA VOLGARE	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Dunque chiama, s' egli è alcuno che ti risponda, e convèrtiti ad alcuno de' santi.	1 Call now if there be any that will answer thee, and turn to some of the saints.
2 La iracondia uccide l'uomo sciocco, e la invidia uccide il piccolo.	2 Anger indeed killeth the foolish, and envy slayeth the little one.
3 Viddi lo sciocco con ferma radice, e maledissi incontanente la bellezza sua.	3 I have seen a fool with a strong root, and I cursed his beauty immediately.
4 Dalla lunga saranno fatti li figliuoli suoi dalla salute, e fieno attriti nella porta, e non sarà chi li liberi.	4 His children shall be far from safety, and shall be destroyed in the gate, and there shall be none to deliver them.
5 La biada dello quale mangerae l' affamato, e lui piglierà l' armato, e beranno coloro che hanno sete le ricchezze sue.	5 Whose harvest the hungry shall eat, and the armed man shall take him by violence, and the thirsty shall drink up his riches.
6 Niuna cosa nella terra senza cagione si fa, e della terra non uscirà dolore.	6 Nothing upon earth is done without a voice cause, and sorrow doth not spring out of the ground.
7 L'uomo alla fatica nasce e l'uccello a volare.	7 Man is born to labour and the bird to fly.
8 Per la quale cagione io pregherò lo Signore, e a Dio porroe lo mio favellare,	8 Wherefore I will pray to the Lord, and address my speech to God:
9 il quale fae le grandi cose, e da non poter cercare, e molto maravigliose e senza numero;	9 Who doth great things and unsearchable and wonderful things without number:
10 il quale dae la piova sopra la faccia della terra, e bagna coll' acque ogni cosa;	10 Who giveth rain upon the face of the earth, and watereth all things with waters:
11 il quale pone li umili ad alto, e li piagnenti dirizza con dolcezza;	11 Who setteth up the humble on high, and comforteth with health those that mourn.
12 il quale guasta li pensieri delli rei, acciò che non possano compire le mani loro quello che aviano incominciato;	12 Who bringeth to nought the designs of the malignant, so that their hands cannot accomplish what they had begun:
13 il quale apprende li savii nella astuzia loro, e li consigli de' malvagi guasta.	13 Who catcheth the wise in their craftiness, and disappointeth the counsel of the wicked:
14 Di giorno correranno nelle tenebre; e quasi come di notte, così palperanno nel mezzo dì.	14 They shall meet with darkness in the day, and grope at noonday as in the night.
15 In verità salva lo poverello dal coltello della bocca loro, e dalla mano violenta lo bisognoso.	15 But he shall save the needy from the sword of their mouth, and the poor from the hand of the violent.
16 E sarà speranza all' abbisognante; ma la iniquità costrignerà la bocca sua.	16 And to the needy there shall he hope, but iniquity shall draw in her mouth.
17 Beato l'uomo che è corretto da Dio; adunque [per] la reprensione della sua correzione non lo vituperarae.	17 Blessed is the mall whom God correcteth: refuse not therefore the chastising of the lord:
18 Perciò ch' egli ferisce, e medica; percuote, e le mani sue saneranno.	18 For he woundeth, and cureth: he striketh, and his hands shall heal.
19 In sei tribulazioni liberarà te, e nella settima non toccherà te lo male.	19 In six troubles he shall deliver thee, and in the seventh, evil shall not touch thee.
20 Nella fame scamperà te da morte, e nella battaglia dalla mano del coltello.	20 In famine he shall deliver thee from death: and in battle, from the hand of the sword.
21 Dal tormento della lingua sarai nascoso, e non temerai la miseria quando sopraverrae.	21 Thou shalt he hidden from the scourge of the tongue: and thou shalt not fear calamity when it cometh.
22 Nel guasto e nella fame riderai, e non temerai le bestie della terra.	22 In destruction and famine then shalt laugh: and thou shalt not be afraid of the beasts of the earth.
23 Ma colle pietre della regione lo patto tuo, e le bestie della terra ti saranno pacifiche.	23 But thou shalt have a covenant with the stones of the lands, and the beasts of the earth shall be at pence with thee.
24 E sappi che pace abbi la casa tua; e visitando la specie tua, non peccherai.	24 And thou shalt know that thy tabernacle is in peace, and visiting thy beauty thou shalt not sin.
25 Certo saprai che in molti sarae lo seme tuo, e la schiatta tua sarae come erba della terra.	25 Thou shalt know also that thy seed shall be multiplied, and thy offspring like the grass of the earth.
26 Con abbondanza entrerai nel sepolcro, sì come era aperto lo monticello del grano nel tempo suo.	26 Thou shalt enter into the grave in abundance, as a heap of wheat is brought in its season.
27 Ecco; questo, sì come abbiamo investigato, così è; lo qual udito, con la mente pertratta.	27 Behold, this is even so, as we have searched oat: which thou having heard, consider it thoroughly in thy mind.
