Iob 42

BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Rispose Iob al Signore, e disse:	1 This was the answer Job gave to Yahweh:
2 Io so che tu puoti ogni cosa, e niuno pensiero si nasconde da te.	2 I know that you are al -powerful: what you conceive, you can perform.
3 Chi è questi, che occulta lo consiglio senza scienza? E perciò scioccamente favellai, e [cose] che più oltre stenderebbono la mia scienza.	3 I was the man who misrepresented your intentions with my ignorant words. You have told me aboutgreat works that I cannot understand, about marvels which are beyond me, of which I know nothing.
4 Odi, e io favellerò; e domanderò te, e rispondi a me.	4 (Listen, please, and let me speak: I am going to ask the questions, and you are to inform me.)
5 Collo udire delle mie orecchie udi' te, e ora in verità l'occhio mio vede te.	5 Before, I knew you only by hearsay but now, having seen you with my own eyes,
6 E però me medesimo riprendo, e fo penitenza nella favilla e nella cenere.	6 I retract what I have said, and repent in dust and ashes.
7 Dappoi che lo Signore ebbe detto queste parole a Iob, disse a Elifaz Temanite: adirato è lo mio furore in te, e ne' due tuoi amici, perciò che voi non avete favellato dinanzi a me dirittamente, si come lo mio servo Iob.	7 When Yahweh had finished saying this to Job, he said to Eliphaz of Teman, 'I burn with anger against you and your two friends, for not having spoken correctly about me as my servant Job has done.
8 Togliete adunque a voi sette tori, e sette montoni; e andate al mio servo Iob, e offerito sacrificio per voi; e Iob mio servo pregherà per voi; la sua faccia riceveroe, acciò ch' egli non vi si reputi sciocchezza; nè certo voi non avete favellato a me le diritte cose, come lo mio servo Iob.	8 So now find seven bul ocks and seven rams, and take them back with you to my servant Job andmake a burnt offering for yourselves, while Job, my servant, offers prayers for you. I shal show him favour andshall not inflict my displeasure on you for not having spoken about me correctly, as my servant Job has done.'
9 Andarono adunque Elifaz Temanite e Baldad Suite e Sofar Naamatite; e feciono sì come avea detto loro lo Signore; e ricevette Iddio la faccia di Iob.	9 Eliphaz of Teman, Bildad of Shuah and Zophar of Naamath went away to do as Yahweh had ordered,and Yahweh listened to Job with favour.
10 E certo lo Signore [si] convertì alla penitenza di Iob, quando quegli orava per li suoi amici. E rendègli ogni cosa lo Signore a Iob, che prima egli avea avuto, in duplo.	10 And Yahweh restored Job's condition, while Job was interceding for his friends. More than that,Yahweh gave him double what he had before.
11 E vennero a lui tutti li suoi fratelli e tutte le sue sorelle e tutti coloro che prima l' aveano conosciuto, e mangiarono con lui del pane nella sua casa; e mossono sopra lui lo capo, e consolarono lui sopra ogni male che lo Signore avea mandato sopra lui; e dierongli ciascuno una pecora, e uno ornamento di orecchie d'oro.	11 And al his brothers and all his sisters and al his friends of former times came to see him. Over dinnerin his house, they showed their sympathy and comforted him for al the evils Yahweh had inflicted on him. Eachof them gave him a silver coin, and each a gold ring.
12 E lo Signore benedisse le cose nuove di Iob maggiormente che nel principio suo. E fatte sono a lui quattordici migliaia di pecore e sei milia cammelli e mille paia di buoi e mille asini.	12 Yahweh blessed Job's latter condition even more than his former one. He came to own fourteenthousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen and a thousand she-donkeys.
13 Ed ebbe sette figliuoli e tre figliuole.	13 He had seven sons and three daughters;
14 E chiamò lo nome dell' una Die, e lo nome della seconda Cassia, e lo nome della terza Cornustibi.	14 his first daughter he cal ed 'Turtledove', the second 'Cassia' and the third 'Mascara'.
15 E non sono trovate femine così belle in tutta la terra, come le figliuole di Iob; e diede loro lo loro padre la ereditade intra li loro fratelli.	15 Throughout the land there were no women as beautiful as the daughters of Job. And their father gavethem inheritance rights like their brothers.
16 Vivette Iob dopo queste cose (di flagelli) cento quarant' anni, e vide i suoi figliuoli insino alla quarta generazione, e morto è vecchio e pieno di dì (in santa vita e buona).	16 After this, Job lived for another one hundred and forty years, and saw his children and his children'schildren to the fourth generation.
	17 Then, old and ful of days, Job died.
