1 E dopo queste cose ad Assalom era una sorella bellissima, la quale avea nome Tamar; e intervenne che Amnon, figliuolo di David, l'amò troppo;	1 After this, the fol owing events took place. Absalom son of David had a beautiful sister whose namewas Tamar; Amnon son of David fel in love with her.
2 sì che era per lei molto angustiato, ed era infirmato per suo amore; però che essendo ella vergine, pareagli difficile di potere operare con lei cosa disonesta.	2 Amnon was so obsessed with his sister Tamar that it made him il , since she was a virgin and Amnonthought it impossible to do anything to her.
3 E Amnon avea uno amico, il quale avea nome Ionadab, figliuolo di Semmaa fratello di David, uomo molto prudente.	3 But Amnon had a friend called Jonadab son of Shimeah, David's brother, and Jonadab was a veryshrewd man.
4 Il quale disse a lui; perchè dimagri tu così, figliuolo di re, ogni dì? perchè non mel di' tu? E Amnon gli disse: io amo la sorella di Assalom, Tamar.	4 'Son of the king,' he said, 'tel me why, morning after morning, you look so worn? Won't you tel me?'Amnon replied, 'I am in love with Tamar, my brother Absalom's sister.'
5 E Ionadab gli respuose; giaciti in sul letto e mostra d'avere male, e quando il tuo padre verrà a visitarti, dira' gli così, io prego che venga la mia sorella Tamar, diami mangiare, e facciami la vivanda, acciò ch' io mangi di sua mano.	5 Then Jonadab said, 'Take to your bed, pretend to be ill and, when your father comes to visit you, say,"Please let my sister Tamar come and give me something to eat; let her prepare the food where I can see. Whatshe gives me I shal eat." '
6 E puosesi a giacere Amnon, e cominciò quasi ad infermare; e venuto il re a visitarlo disse Amnon al re: io priego che venga la mia sorella Tamar, e faccia in mia presenza due fritellette, e riceverò il cibo della sua mano.	6 So Amnon lay down and pretended to be ill. The king then came to visit him and Amnon said to theking, 'Please let my sister Tamar come and make a cake or two where I can watch. What she gives me, I shaleat.'
7 E David mandò a casa di Tamar, dicendo : vieni a casa del tuo fratello Amnon, e fagli la vivanda.	7 David then sent word to Tamar at the palace, 'Go to your brother Amnon's house and prepare somefood for him.'
8 E venne Tamar in casa di Amnon suo fratello; ed egli giacea; ed ella tolse la farina, e intrisela, e in sua presenza cosse le fritelle.	8 Tamar went to the house of her brother Amnon who was lying there in bed. She took dough andkneaded it, and she made some cakes while he watched, and baked the cakes.
9 E tollendo quello chi avea cotto, puoseli innanzi, e non volse mangiare; e disse Amnon: cacciate fuori ogni persona. E dopo cacciati,	9 She then took the pan and dished them up in front of him, but he refused to eat. Amnon said, 'Leteveryone leave me!' So everyone withdrew.
10 disse Amnon a Tamar: reca il cibo dentro, e mangerò della tua mano. E tolse Tamar quello ch' avea cotto, e portollo dentro al suo fratello Amnon.	10 Amnon then said to Tamar, 'Bring the food to the inner room, so that I can eat what you give me.' SoTamar took the cakes which she had made and brought them to her brother Amnon in the inner room.
11 E dandogli ella il cibo, egli la prese, e disse: giaci meco, sorella mia.	11 And as she was offering the food to him, he caught hold of her and said, 'Come to bed with me,sister!'
12 La quale respuose: non lo fare, fratello mio, non mi sforzare; però che questo non è lecito in Israel; non fare (fratello mio) questa istoltizia.	12 She replied, 'No, brother! Do not force me! This is no way to behave in Israel. Do not do anything sodisgraceful!
13 Però ch' io non potrò sofferire la mia vergogna, e tu sarai sì come uno degli sciocchi in Israel; ma favella al re, ed egli non mi negherà a te.	13 Wherever should I go? I should be marked with this shame, while you would become disgraced inIsrael. Why not go and speak to the king? He wil not refuse to give me to you.'
14 E non volse consentire a' suoi preghi, ma avendo più forza di lei, isforzolla e giacque con lei.	14 But he would not listen to her; he overpowered her and raped her.
15 E Amnon inodiò quella di grandissimo odio, sì che maggiore era l'odio, del quale l' odiava, che non era stato l'amore del quale prima l' avea amata. E dissegli Amnon: istà suso, e vattene.	15 Amnon was then seized with extreme hatred for her; the hatred he now felt for her was greater thanhis earlier love. 'Get up and go!' he said.
16 La quale gli respuose: maggiore male è questo che tu ora fai contro di me cacciandomi, che quello che tu facesti prima. E' non la volle udire.	16 She said, 'No, brother! To send me away would be worse than the other wrong you have done me!'But he would not listen to her.
17 Ma chiamato uno fante il quale gli servia, disse a lui: cacciala, che stia fuori da me, e serra l'uscio dopo lei.	17 He cal ed his personal servant. 'Rid me of this woman!' he said. 'Throw her out and bolt the doorbehind her!'
18 La quale era vestita d'una gonnella insino al tallone: però che le figliuole del re vergini usavano così fatte vestimenta. E quello servidore la cacciò fuori, e serrò le porte dopo lei.	18 (She was wearing a magnificent dress, for this was what the king's unmarried daughters wore indays gone by.) So the servant put her out and bolted the door behind her.
19 La quale gittatasi la cenere in capo, e squarciata la gonnella, e postosi le mani sopra il capo, andava gridando.	19 Tamar put dust on her head, tore the magnificent dress which she was wearing, laid her hand on herhead, and went away, crying aloud as she went.
20 E Assalom suo fratello gli disse: è egli forse giaciuto teco Amnon? taci, sorella mia, però che egli è tuo fratello, e non affliggere il cuore tuo per questa cosa. E istette Tamar vergognosa in casa del suo fratello Assalom.	20 Her brother Absalom said to her, 'Has Amnon your brother been with you? Sister, be quiet; he is yourbrother; do not take the matter to heart!' Tamar, however, went back to her brother Absalom's houseinconsolable.
21 E udendo David queste cose, contristossi molto, e non volse contristare lo spirito di Amnon suo figliuolo, però che l'amava (troppo) però ch' egli era il suo primogenito.	21 When King David heard the whole story, he was very angry; but he had no wish to harm his sonAmnon, whom he loved because he was his first-born.
22 E Assalom non favellò ad Amnon male nè bene; e avea Assalom grande odio in Amnon, però ch' avea isforzata la sua sorella Tamar.	22 Absalom, however, would not so much as speak to Amnon, since he hated Amnon for having rapedhis sister Tamar.
23 E dopo tempo di due anni intervenne che si tondeano le pecore di Assalom in Baalasor, la quale si è presso ad Efraim; e invitò Assalom tutti i figliuoli del re.	23 Two years later, when Absalom had the sheep-shearers at Baal-Hazor, which is near Ephraim, heinvited al the king's sons.
24 E vènnesene al re, e disse: ecco così si tondono le pecore del tuo servo, e io ti prego che vegna il re co' suoi servi al suo servo.	24 Absalom went to the king and said, 'Now sir, your servant has the sheep-shearers. Wil the king andhis retinue be pleased to come with your servant?'
25 E disse il re ad Assalom: non voler, figliuolo mio, non pregare che vegnano tutti e gràvinti. E costringendolo, ed egli non volendo andare, benedisselo.	25 'No, my son,' the king replied, 'we must not al come and be a burden to you.' And though Absalomwas insistent, he would not go but dismissed him.
26 E disse Assalom: se non vogli venire, io ti prego che vegni con esso noi almeno Amnon mio fratello. E il re disse: non è bisogno ch' ello vegna.	26 Absalom persisted, 'Then at least let my brother Amnon come with us.' The king said, 'Why should hego with you?'
27 E costrinselo Assalom; e lasciò andare Amnon con esso loro, e tutti i figliuoli del re. E avea fatto Assalom uno convito, quasi convito del re.	27 On Absalom's insistence, however, he let Amnon and al the king's sons to go with him. Absalomprepared a royal banquet
28 E avea comandato Assalom ai servi suoi, dicendo: attendete quando Amnon sarà caldo di vino, ed io vel dirò, feritelo e uccidetelo; e non temete, però che sono io che vel comando; confortatevi, e siate uomini potenti.	28 and then gave this order to the servants, 'Listen careful y; when Amnon's heart is merry with wineand I say, "Strike Amnon down", then kil him. Don't be afraid. Have I not myself given you the order? Use yourstrength and show your mettle!'
29 E fecero i servi di Assalom, sì come li avea comandato Assalom, contro di Amnon. E levatisi suso tutti i figliuoli del re, ciascuno montò in su la mula, e fuggirono.	29 Absalom's servants treated Amnon as Absalom had ordered. The king's sons al leapt to their feet,mounted their mules and fled.
30 Ed essendo loro ancora per cammino, pervenne la fama a David, e fu detto: Assalom ha morti tutti i figliuoli del re, e non è rimaso più alcuno.	30 While they were on the road, word reached David, 'Absalom has killed all the king's sons; not one ofthem is left.'
31 E levossi suso il re, e squarciatosi le sue vestimenta, cadette sopra la terra; e tutti i servi ch' erano dinanzi a lui si squarciarono le loro vestimenta.	31 The king stood up, tore his clothes and threw himself on the ground. Al his officers tore their clothestoo.
32 E respondendo Ionadab figliuolo di Semmaa fratello di David, disse; non creda il mio signore, che tutti siano morti i figliuoli del re; solo Amnon è morto, chè egli era posto in odio di Assalom, dal dì ch' egli isforzò Tamar sua sorella.	32 Jonadab son of Shimeah, David's brother, then spoke up and said, 'Do not let my lord take to heartthe report that al the young men, the king's sons, have been killed, since only Amnon is dead: for Absalom hasbeen promising himself to do this since the day when Amnon raped his sister Tamar.
33 Onde non ponga il signore mio nel suo cuore ciò, e dica: tutti li figliuoli del re sono morti; però che solo Amnon è morto.	33 So my lord the king must not imagine that al the king's sons are dead; only Amnon is dead
34 E Assalom se ne fuggio. E la guardia levò gli occhii; ed ecco molto popolo venia, non per via, ma per la costa del monte.	34 and Absalom has fled.' The man on sentry duty looked up and saw a large troop coming along theroad from Bahurim. The sentry came to tell the king, 'I have seen some people coming down the Bahurim roadon the mountainside.'
35 E Ionadab disse al re: ecco li figliuoli del re, che sono presenti; secondo la parola del tuo servo, così è fatto.	35 Jonadab then said to the king, 'These are the king's sons arriving: what your servant said is exactlywhat happened.'
36 E compiuto di parlare, apparvero i figliuoli del re; ed entrando, levarono la voce loro, e piansero; e il re, e tutti i servi suoi, pianse di pian to grande troppo.	36 He had scarcely finished speaking when the king's sons arrived and wept aloud; the king and al hisretinue wept aloud too.
37 E Assalom fuggendo se n' andò a Tolomai figliuolo di Ammiud re di Gessur. E David pianse il suo figliuolo molti dì.	37 Absalom had gone to Talmai son of Ammihud, king of Geshur. The king mourned for his son everyday.
38 E Assalom, fuggito e venuto in Gessur, abitò ivi tre anni.	38 When Absalom had gone to Geshur, he stayed there for three years.
39 E cessò David di perseguitare Assalom, però ch' era consolato della morte del figliuolo suo Amnon.	39 Once the king was consoled over Amnon's death, his anger against Absalom subsided.
