1 Adam in verità incontenente poi conobbe la sua moglie Eva; la quale concepette, e partorì Caino, dicendo: ho posseduto l'uomo per Dio.	1 The man had relations with his wife Eve, and she conceived and bore Cain, saying, "I have produced a man with the help of the LORD."
2 E poi riconcepette Eva, sua moglie; e partorì a Caino uno fratello, cioè Abello, il quale fue pastore di pecore, e Caino lavoratore di terra.	2 Next she bore his brother Abel. Abel became a keeper of flocks, and Cain a tiller of the soil.
3 E dopo molti dì dipo' la lor nazione, quando Caino offeriva delli frutti della terra in dono al Signore Iddio,	3 In the course of time Cain brought an offering to the LORD from the fruit of the soil,
4 ed Abello sì offeriva degli frutti degli pri migeniti delle gregge sue, e de' più grassi ch' avesse: onde il Signore riguardò bene ad Abel ed agli doni suoi.	4 while Abel, for his part, brought one of the best firstlings of his flock. The LORD looked with favor on Abel and his offering,
5 Ma a Caino ed agli doni suoi non riguardoe. Adunque di ciò adirato fue Caino fortemente, e turbatosi lo volto suo.	5 but on Cain and his offering he did not. Cain greatly resented this and was crestfallen.
6 Allo quale disse lo Signore: perchè se'adirato, e perchè si turba la faccia tua?	6 So the LORD said to Cain: "Why are you so resentful and crestfallen?
7 Voglio che sappi, che se tu bene farai, riceverai bene; ma se tu farai male, subito il tuo peccato sarà a me manifesto; ma sotto ti sarà lo appetito tuo, e signoreggerai lui.	7 If you do well, you can hold up your head; but if not, sin is a demon lurking at the door: his urge is toward you, yet you can be his master."
8 Ma, dopo questo, Caino disse ad Abello, suo fratello: andiamo fuori. E conciosia cosa che fossero nel campo, si levò Caino contra ad Abello, suo fratello; ed ucciselo (per astio e per invidia ch' avea, che il Signore guiderdonava meglio Abel che Caino).	8 Cain said to his brother Abel, "Let us go out in the field." When they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.
9 Adunque disse il Signore a Caino: dove è Abello, tuo fratello? Caino rispose: io non so; or sono io guardiano del fratello mio?	9 Then the LORD asked Cain, "Where is your brother Abel?" He answered, "I do not know. Am I my brother's keeper?"
10 Ed il Signore disse a lui: or che hai tu fatto? La voce del sangue del fratello tuo chiamò me di terra.	10 The LORD then said: "What have you done! Listen: your brother's blood cries out to me from the soil!
11 Adunque maledetto sarai sopra la terra, la quale aperse la bocca sua e ricevette lo sangue suo, cioè del fratello tuo, il quale tu hai morto della tua mano.	11 Therefore you shall be banned from the soil that opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand.
12 Ancora, quando adopererai, la terra non ti darà a te i frutti suoi: vagabile e fugibile sarai sopra la terra.	12 If you till the soil, it shall no longer give you its produce. You shall become a restless wanderer on the earth."
13 Allora disse Caino al Signore: maggiore è la iniquitade mia, che io perdonanza meriti.	13 Cain said to the LORD: "My punishment is too great to bear.
14 Ecco, caccimi oggi della faccia della terra; e dalla faccia tua io mi nasconderoe, e sarò vagabile (senza operamento di niuno bene) e fuggevole nella terra; e chiunque mi troverà, mi ucciderà.	14 Since you have now banished me from the soil, and I must avoid your presence and become a restless wanderer on the earth, anyone may kill me at sight."
15 Disse a lui il Signore: mai non, che così si faccia; ma chi ucciderà te, sette cotanto sarà punito. E pose questo segno lo Signore a Caino (in generale) acciò che chiunque trovasse lui, non l'uccidesse.	15 Not so!" the LORD said to him. "If anyone kills Cain, Cain shall be avenged sevenfold." So the LORD put a mark on Cain, lest anyone should kill him at sight.
16 E partitosi dopo questo Caino dalla faccia del Signore, sì abitava nella terra (nel mondo) molto dubioso nelle parti orientali Eden.	16 Cain then left the LORD'S presence and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.
17 Conoscea ancora Caino la moglie sua; la quale concepette, e partorì Enoc; ed edificò una cittade, e chiamolla per nome del figliuolo suo, Enoc.	17 Cain had relations with his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. Cain also became the founder of a city, which he named after his son Enoch.
18 Poi Enoc generoe Irad, e Irad generoe Ma viael, e Maviael generoe Matusael, e Matusael generoe Lamec.	18 To Enoch was born Irad, and Irad became the father of Mehujael; Mehujael became the father of Methusael, and Methusael became the father of Lamech.
19 Il quale prese due mogli, che l'una ebbe nome Ada, e l'altra Sella.	19 Lamech took two wives; the name of the first was Adah, and the name of the second Zillah.
20 E generoe poi Ada label, il quale fue padre degli abitanti nelle tende, e di pastori.	20 Adah gave birth to Jabal, the ancestor of all who dwell in tents and keep cattle.
21 E il nome del suo fratello fue Iubal, il quale sue padre de'cantanti la citara e l'organo.	21 His brother's name was Jubal; he was the ancestor of all who play the lyre and the pipe.
22 Sella (l'altra sua moglie di Lamec) generoe Tubalcain, il quale fu lavorante di martello, e fue fabbro in tutti gli lavorii di metallo e del ferro. Ma la sorella di Tubalcain in verità ebbe nome Noema.	22 Zillah, on her part, gave birth to Tubalcain, the ancestor of all who forge instruments of bronze and iron. The sister of Tubalcain was Naamah.
23 E disse Lamec alle due sue mogli, Ada e Sella: udite la voce mia, mogli di Lamec, ed ascol tate la parola mia; imperciò ch' io ho ucciso l'uomo in la ferita mia, e lo fanciullo in lo mio livore (cioè iniquità ed ira).	23 Lamech said to his wives: "Adah and Zillah, hear my voice; wives of Lamech, listen to my utterance: I have killed a man for wounding me, a boy for bruising me.
24 Ma il Signore disse a Caino, che cui l'uccidesse (ovvero egli ch' avea fatto l'omicidio) sette cotanto sarebbe punito; ma di Lamec in verità sarà data sette volte settanta la vendetta.	24 If Cain is avenged sevenfold, then Lamech seventy-sevenfold."
25 Cognobbe ancora Adam la sua moglie Eva; e concepette, e partorì uno figliuolo, il quale chiamò per lo suo nome Set, dicendo: lo Signore Iddio pose a me d'avere altro seme, per Abel il quale Caino uccise.	25 Adam again had relations with his wife, and she gave birth to a son whom she called Seth. "God has granted me more offspring in place of Abel," she said, "because Cain slew him."
26 Poi ebbe Set uno figliuolo, il quale chiamò Enos. Questo incominciò a chiamare lo nome del Signore.	26 To Seth, in turn, a son was born, and he named him Enosh. At that time men began to invoke the LORD by name.
