1 Adunque Sarai, moglie d'Abram, non avea generato figliuoli, ma avea una ancilla di Egitto, lo nome Agar.	1 Now Sarai Abram's wife bare him no children: and she had an handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar.
2 Disse al marito suo Sarai: ecco che m'hae conchiusa lo Signore, acciò ch' io non partorisca; va alla fante mia, e forse per avventura riceverò figliuoli di quella. E conciosia cosa che esso accon sentisse	2 And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the LORD hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.
3 essendo pregato, tolse Agar di Egitto, sua ancilla, dopo X anni che cominciarono ad abitare in terra Canaan; e diede colei in moglie al suo marito.	3 And Sarai Abram's wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife.
4 Il quale andò a lei. Ma quella vedente sè essere gravida, disprezzò la madonna sua.	4 And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.
5 E disse Sarai ad Abram: malvagiamente fa' contra di me; l'ancilla mia ho dato nel seno tuo; la quale vedente ch' ella è gravida, m' hae a di spetto: giudichi lo Signore tra te e me.	5 And Sarai said unto Abram, My wrong be upon thee: I have given my maid into thy bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: the LORD judge between me and thee.
6 Alla quale respondente Abram disse: ecco, l'ancilla tua è nella mano tua, e fa di lei quello che a te piace. Essendo adunque molesta Agar da Sarai, Agar per paura si fuggì.	6 But Abram said unto Sarai, Behold, thy maid is in thy hand; do to her as it pleaseth thee. And when Sarai dealt hardly with her, she fled from her face.
7 E conciosiacosa che l'angelo del Signore la trovasse appresso una fonte d'acqua, sola, la quale è nella via da Sur nel deserto,	7 And the angel of the LORD found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur.
8 disse a lei: Agar, ancilla di Sarai, donde vieni, ovvero dove vai? La quale rispose: dalla fac cia di Sarai, signora mia, io fuggo.	8 And he said, Hagar, Sarai's maid, whence camest thou? and whither wilt thou go? And she said, I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai.
9 E dissegli a lei l'angelo di Dio: ritorna alla casa sua e alla tua signora, e umiliati sotto la mano sua.	9 And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands.
10 E una altra volta disse: moltiplicante mol tiplicherò lo seme tuo, e non si annomererà per la moltitudine.	10 And the angel of the LORD said unto her, I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude.
11 Di qui innanzi: ecco, disse, tu hai conceputo, e partorirai uno figliuolo, e chiamerai lo nome suo Ismael; imperciò che udì lo Signore l'afflizione tua.	11 And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy affliction.
12 E questo sarae fiero uomo, e le mani sue contra tutti, e le mani di tutti contra lui; e della regione di tutti fratelli suoi comporrà tabernacoli.	12 And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.
13 E chiamò Agar lo nome del Signore, il quale favellava a lei: tu Iddio, che hai veduto me. Disse ancora: certamente qui vidi le cose secrete di colui che vede me.	13 And she called the name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me?
14 E perciò è appellato quello pozzo: POZZO DELLO VIVENTE E DELLO VIDENTE, che è intra Cades e Barad.	14 Wherefore the well was called Beer-lahai-roi; behold, it is between Kadesh and Bered.
15 E partorio Agar ad Abram uno figliuolo, il quale chiamò lo nome suo Ismael.	15 And Hagar bare Abram a son: and Abram called his son's name, which Hagar bare, Ishmael.
16 D'ottantasei anni era, quando gli partorì Agar Ismael.	16 And Abram was fourscore and six years old, when Hagar bare Ishmael to Abram.
