1 Preghiera del profeta Abacuc,per le ignoranze.	1 "LORD Almighty, God of Israel, afflicted souls and dismayed spirits call to you.
2 Ho sentito, o ­ Signore, il tuo annunzio, e ne ho avuto spavento. Signore, la tua opera è nel mezzo degli anni, fal­la vivere; nel mezzo degli anni tu la farai manifesta, nello sdegno ti ricorderai della misericordia.	2 Hear, O LORD, for you are a God of mercy; and have mercy on us, who have sinned against you:
3 Iddio verrà dal mezzodì, e il Santo dal monte di Faran. La gloria di lui ha coperto i cieli e del­ e le sue lodi è ripiena la terra.	3 for you are enthroned forever, while we are perishing forever.
4 Il ­ suo splendore brillerà come la a luce, le corna sono nelle sue ma­ni, ivi è nascosta la sua possanza.	4 LORD Almighty, God of Israel, hear the prayer of Israel's few, the sons of those who sinned against you; they did not heed the voice of the LORD, their God, and the evils cling to us.
5 Davanti alla sua faccia andrà la morte e il diavolo uscirà davanti ai suoi piedi.	5 Remember at this time not the misdeeds of our fathers, but your own hand and name:
6 Si fermò e mi­surò la terra, guardò e distrusse ­ le nazioni, andarono in pezzi i ­monti dei secoli, si curvarono le colline del mondo per le vie della sua eternità.	6 for you are the LORD our God; and you, O LORD, we will praise!
7 Vidi sotto l'iniqui­tà le tende d'Etiopia: saranno in agitazione i padiglioni della ter­ra di Madian.	7 For this, you put into our hearts the fear of you: that we may call upon your name, and praise you in our captivity, when we have removed from our hearts all the wickedness of our fathers who sinned against you.
8 Sei dunque adirato contro i fiumi, o Signore, o è contro i fiumi il tuo furore, o contro il mare il tuo sdegno? Tu monterai sui tuoi cavalli e le tue quadrighe saran la salvezza.	8 Behold us today in our captivity, where you scattered us, a reproach, a curse, and a requital for all the misdeeds of our fathers, who withdrew from the LORD, our God."
9 Metterai in ordine e in posizione il tuo arco (secondo) i giuramenti fatti alle tribù: tu dividerai i fiumi della terra.	9 Hear, O Israel, the commandments of life: listen, and know prudence!
10 Ti videro i, monti, e tremarono, sparirono le masse di acqua: l'abisso fece sentire la sua voce, il profondo (dell'abisso) levò in alto le mani.	10 How is it, Israel, that you are in the land of your foes, grown old in a foreign land, Defiled with the dead,
11 Il sole e la luna si fermarono nella loro dimora; andranno alla luce delle tue saette, allo splendore della tua lancia folgoreggiante.	11 accounted with those destined for the nether world?
12 Nel fremito conculcherai la ferra, nel furore renderai stupefatte le na­zioni.	12 You have forsaken the fountain of wisdom!
13 Ti movesti per salvare il tuo popolo, per salvarlo col tuo Cristo. Tu percotesti il capo della casa dell'empio, mettendone a nudo i fondamenti sino in fondo.	13 Had you walked in the way of God, you would have dwelt in enduring peace.
14 Maledicesti i suoi scettri, il capo dei suoi guerrieri, che venivano qual turbine a distruggermi, emettendo gridi di gioia come chi divora il povero di nascosto.	14 Learn where prudence is, where strength, where understanding; That you may know also where are length of days, and life, where light of the eyes, and peace.
15 Tu nel mare facesti una via pei tuoi cavalli, nel fango delle acque profonde.	15 Who has found the place of wisdom, who has entered into her treasuries?
16 Ho sentito, e le mie viscere si son commosse, a tal voce tremano i miei labbri. Entri la: putredine nei miei ossi ed esca sotto di me; perchè io abbia riposo; nel giorno della tribolazione, e possa salire al nostro popolo armato»	16 Where are the rulers of the nations, they who lorded it over the wild beasts of the earth,
17 Infatti il fico non fiorirà, e non vi saran germogli nelle vigne. Il prodotto dell'ulivo ingannerà (l'attesa), e i campi non daranno da mangiare. Saran rapite le pe­core dall'ovile, e nelle stalle non ci saranno armenti.	17 and made sport of the birds of the heavens: They who heaped up the silver and the gold in which men trust; of whose possessions there was no end?
18 Ma io mi rallegrerò nel Signore ed esulterò in Dio mio Gesù.	18 They schemed anxiously for money, but there is no trace of their work:
19 Il Signore Diò è la mia forza: Egli farà i miei piedi simili a quelli dei cervi, e mi guiderà per luoghi elevati, vincitore, mentre canto dei salmi.	19 They have vanished down into the nether world, and others have risen up in their stead.
20 I giovani videro la luce, abitarono sopra la terra; ma non han conosciuta la via della sapienza,	20 Later generations have seen the light, have dwelt in the land, But the way to understanding they have not known,
21 non ne han saputi i sentieri. I loro figli non l'han accolta, ed essa è andata lungi da loro.	21 they have not perceived her paths, or reached her; their offspring were far from the way to her.
22 Di lei non si sentì parlare nella terra di Canaan, non fu vista in Teman.	22 She has not been heard of in Canaan, nor seen in Teman.
23 Anche i figli d'Agar, che cercano la prudenza della terra, e i mercanti di Merra e di Teman e i favoleggiatori e i ricercatori della prudenza e dell'intelligenza, non conobbero la via della sapienza, nè si ricordarono dei suoi sentieri.	23 The sons of Hagar who seek knowledge on earth, the merchants of Midian and Teman, the phrasemakers seeking knowledge, These have not known the way to wisdom, nor have they her paths in mind.
24 O Israele, quanto è grande la casa di Dio, quanto è vasto il suo dominio!	24 O Israel, how vast is the house of God, how broad the scope of his dominion:
25 E' grande, senza confini, eccelso, immenso.	25 Vast and endless, high and immeasurable!
26 Là vissero anticamente quei giganti famosi, d'alta statura e istruiti nella guerra.	26 In it were born the giants, renowned at the first, stalwarts, skilled in war.
27 Il Signore non scelse questi. Essi non trovarono la via della sapienza, e per questo perirono, perchè non ebbero sapienza,	27 Not these did God choose, nor did he give them the way of understanding;
28 perirono per la loro stoltezza.	28 They perished for lack of prudence, perished through their folly.
29 Chi salì al cielo a prendere la sapienza? Chi la trasse dalle nubi?	29 Who has gone up to the heavens and taken her, or brought her down from the clouds?
30 Chi la trovò al di là dei mari e la portò a prezzo dell'oro più stimato?	30 Who has crossed the sea and found her, bearing her away rather than choice gold?
31 Nessuno ne conosce le vie, nessuno ne sa i sentieri.	31 None knows the way to her, nor has any understood her paths.
32 Ma colui che tutto sa la conobbe, la scoprì colla sua prudenza, colui che fondò per l'eternità la terra, e la riempì di animali e di quadrupedi,	32 Yet he who knows all things knows her; he has probed her by his knowledge-- He who established the earth for all time, and filled it with four-footed beasts;
33 colui che spedisce la luce, ed essa parte, la chiama, ed essa tremante obbedisce;	33 He who dismisses the light, and it departs, calls it, and it obeys him trembling;
34 a cui le stelle brillano al loro posto, piene di letizia,	34 Before whom the stars at their posts shine and rejoice;
35 e chiamate rispondono: « Eccoci » e brillano di gioia per colui che le creò.	35 When he calls them, they answer, "Here we are!" shining with joy for their Maker.
36 Egli è il nostro Dio, e nessun altro può a lui paragonarsi.	36 Such is our God; no other is to be compared to him:
37 Egli trovò tutte le vie della sapienza e le insegnò a Giacobbe suo servo, a Israele suo diletto.	37 He has traced out all the way of understanding, and has given her to Jacob, his servant, to Israel, his beloved son.
38 Dopo ciò fu visto sopra la terra a conversare cogli uomini.	38 Since then she has appeared on earth, and moved among men.
