1 וַיְדַבֵּר יְהוָה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר1 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:
2 זֹאת תִּהְיֶה תֹּורַת הַמְּצֹרָע בְּיֹום טָהֳרָתֹו וְהוּבָא אֶל־הַכֹּהֵן2 'This is the law to be applied on the day of the purification of someone who has suffered from acontagious skin-disease. Such a person wil be taken to the priest,
3 וְיָצָא הַכֹּהֵן אֶל־מִחוּץ לַמַּחֲנֶה וְרָאָה הַכֹּהֵן וְהִנֵּה נִרְפָּא נֶגַע־הַצָּרַעַת מִן־הַצָּרוּעַ3 and the priest wil go outside the camp. If he finds on examination that the person has recovered fromthe disease,
4 וְצִוָּה הַכֹּהֵן וְלָקַח לַמִּטַּהֵר שְׁתֵּי־צִפֳּרִים חַיֹּות טְהֹרֹות וְעֵץ אֶרֶז וּשְׁנִי תֹולַעַת וְאֵזֹב4 he wil order the fol owing to be brought for his purification: two live birds that are clean, some cedar wood, scarlet material and hyssop.
5 וְצִוָּה הַכֹּהֵן וְשָׁחַט אֶת־הַצִּפֹּור הָאֶחָת אֶל־כְּלִי־חֶרֶשׂ עַל־מַיִם חַיִּים5 He will then order one of the birds to be slaughtered in an earthenware pot over running water.
6 אֶת־הַצִּפֹּר הַחַיָּה יִקַּח אֹתָהּ וְאֶת־עֵץ הָאֶרֶז וְאֶת־שְׁנִי הַתֹּולַעַת וְאֶת־הָאֵזֹב וְטָבַל אֹותָם וְאֵת ׀ הַצִּפֹּר הַחַיָּה בְּדַם הַצִּפֹּר הַשְּׁחֻטָה עַל הַמַּיִם הַחַיִּים6 He will then take the live bird, the cedar wood, the scarlet material and the hyssop and dip all this(including the live bird) into the blood of the bird slaughtered over running water.
7 וְהִזָּה עַל הַמִּטַּהֵר מִן־הַצָּרַעַת שֶׁבַע פְּעָמִים וְטִהֲרֹו וְשִׁלַּח אֶת־הַצִּפֹּר הַחַיָּה עַל־פְּנֵי הַשָּׂדֶה7 He will then sprinkle the person to be purified of the skin-disease seven times, and having declared theperson clean, wil set the live bird free to fly off into the countryside.
8 וְכִבֶּס הַמִּטַּהֵר אֶת־בְּגָדָיו וְגִלַּח אֶת־כָּל־שְׂעָרֹו וְרָחַץ בַּמַּיִם וְטָהֵר וְאַחַר יָבֹוא אֶל־הַמַּחֲנֶה וְיָשַׁב מִחוּץ לְאָהֳלֹו שִׁבְעַת יָמִים8 The person who is being purified will then wash al clothing, shave off al hair, and wash, and wil thenbe clean. After this he will return to the camp, although he wil remain outside his tent for seven days.
9 וְהָיָה בַיֹּום הַשְּׁבִיעִי יְגַלַּח אֶת־כָּל־שְׂעָרֹו אֶת־רֹאשֹׁו וְאֶת־זְקָנֹו וְאֵת גַּבֹּת עֵינָיו וְאֶת־כָּל־שְׂעָרֹו יְגַלֵּחַ וְכִבֶּס אֶת־בְּגָדָיו וְרָחַץ אֶת־בְּשָׂרֹו בַּמַּיִם וְטָהֵר9 On the seventh day he wil shave off all his hair-head, beard and eyebrows; he wil shave off al hishair. After washing his clothing and his body he wil be clean.
10 וּבַיֹּום הַשְּׁמִינִי יִקַּח שְׁנֵי־כְבָשִׂים תְּמִימִים וְכַבְשָׂה אַחַת בַּת־שְׁנָתָהּ תְּמִימָה וּשְׁלֹשָׁה עֶשְׂרֹנִים סֹלֶת מִנְחָה בְּלוּלָה בַשֶּׁמֶן וְלֹג אֶחָד שָׁמֶן10 'On the eighth day he wil take two unblemished lambs, an unblemished ewe one year old, three-tenths of wheaten flour mixed with oil for the cereal offering, and one log of oil.
11 וְהֶעֱמִיד הַכֹּהֵן הַמְטַהֵר אֵת הָאִישׁ הַמִּטַּהֵר וְאֹתָם לִפְנֵי יְהוָה פֶּתַח אֹהֶל מֹועֵד11 The priest who is performing the purification will place the person who is being purified, with all hisofferings, at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, before Yahweh.
12 וְלָקַח הַכֹּהֵן אֶת־הַכֶּבֶשׂ הָאֶחָד וְהִקְרִיב אֹתֹו לְאָשָׁם וְאֶת־לֹג הַשָּׁמֶן וְהֵנִיף אֹתָם תְּנוּפָה לִפְנֵי יְהוָה12 He wil then take one of the lambs and offer it as a sacrifice of reparation, as also the log of oil. Withthese he wil make the gesture of offering before Yahweh.
13 וְשָׁחַט אֶת־הַכֶּבֶשׂ בִּמְקֹום אֲשֶׁר יִשְׁחַט אֶת־הַחַטָּאת וְאֶת־הָעֹלָה בִּמְקֹום הַקֹּדֶשׁ כִּי כַּחַטָּאת הָאָשָׁם הוּא לַכֹּהֵן קֹדֶשׁ קָדָשִׁים הוּא13 He wil then slaughter the lamb on that spot inside the holy place where the victims for the sacrificefor sin and for the burnt offering are slaughtered. This reparatory offering, like the sacrifice for sin, wil revert tothe priest: it is especially holy.
14 וְלָקַח הַכֹּהֵן מִדַּם הָאָשָׁם וְנָתַן הַכֹּהֵן עַל־תְּנוּךְ אֹזֶן הַמִּטַּהֵר הַיְמָנִית וְעַל־בֹּהֶן יָדֹו הַיְמָנִית וְעַל־בֹּהֶן רַגְלֹו הַיְמָנִית14 The priest wil then take some blood of this sacrifice and put it on the lobe of the right ear, the thumbof the right hand, and the big toe of the right foot of the person who is being purified.
15 וְלָקַח הַכֹּהֵן מִלֹּג הַשָּׁמֶן וְיָצַק עַל־כַּף הַכֹּהֵן הַשְּׂמָאלִית15 He wil then take the log of oil and pour a little into the hol ow of his left hand.
16 וְטָבַל הַכֹּהֵן אֶת־אֶצְבָּעֹו הַיְמָנִית מִן־הַשֶּׁמֶן אֲשֶׁר עַל־כַּפֹּו הַשְּׂמָאלִית וְהִזָּה מִן־הַשֶּׁמֶן בְּאֶצְבָּעֹו שֶׁבַע פְּעָמִים לִפְנֵי יְהוָה16 He wil dip a finger of his right hand into the oil in the hollow of his left hand, and sprinkle the oil withhis finger seven times before Yahweh.
17 וּמִיֶּתֶר הַשֶּׁמֶן אֲשֶׁר עַל־כַּפֹּו יִתֵּן הַכֹּהֵן עַל־תְּנוּךְ אֹזֶן הַמִּטַּהֵר הַיְמָנִית וְעַל־בֹּהֶן יָדֹו הַיְמָנִית וְעַל־בֹּהֶן רַגְלֹו הַיְמָנִית עַל דַּם הָאָשָׁם17 He wil then take some of the oil left in the hollow of his hand and put it on the lobe of the right ear,the thumb of the right hand, and the big toe of the right foot of the person being purified, in addition to the bloodof the sacrifice of reparation.
18 וְהַנֹּותָר בַּשֶּׁמֶן אֲשֶׁר עַל־כַּף הַכֹּהֵן יִתֵּן עַל־רֹאשׁ הַמִּטַּהֵר וְכִפֶּר עָלָיו הַכֹּהֵן לִפְנֵי יְהוָה18 The rest of the oil in the hol ow of his hand he will put on the head of the person who is being purified.This is how the priest wil perform the rite of expiation for such a person before Yahweh.
19 וְעָשָׂה הַכֹּהֵן אֶת־הַחַטָּאת וְכִפֶּר עַל־הַמִּטַּהֵר מִטֻּמְאָתֹו וְאַחַר יִשְׁחַט אֶת־הָעֹלָה19 'The priest wil then offer the sacrifice for sin, and perform the rite of expiation for uncleanness for theperson who is being purified. After this, he wil slaughter the burnt offering
20 וְהֶעֱלָה הַכֹּהֵן אֶת־הָעֹלָה וְאֶת־הַמִּנְחָה הַמִּזְבֵּחָה וְכִפֶּר עָלָיו הַכֹּהֵן וְטָהֵר׃ ס20 and offer this and the cereal offering on the altar. So, when the priest has performed the rite ofexpiation for him the person wil be clean.
21 וְאִם־דַּל הוּא וְאֵין יָדֹו מַשֶּׂגֶת וְלָקַח כֶּבֶשׂ אֶחָד אָשָׁם לִתְנוּפָה לְכַפֵּר עָלָיו וְעִשָּׂרֹון סֹלֶת אֶחָד בָּלוּל בַּשֶּׁמֶן לְמִנְחָה וְלֹג שָׁמֶן21 'If he is poor and cannot afford al this, he need take only one lamb, the one for the sacrifice ofreparation, and this will be presented with the gesture of offering to perform the rite of expiation for him. And forthe cereal offering he wil only take one-tenth of wheaten flour mixed with oil, and the log of oil,
22 וּשְׁתֵּי תֹרִים אֹו שְׁנֵי בְּנֵי יֹונָה אֲשֶׁר תַּשִּׂיג יָדֹו וְהָיָה אֶחָד חַטָּאת וְהָאֶחָד עֹלָה22 and two turtledoves or two young pigeons, whichever he can afford, one for a sacrifice for sin and theother for the burnt offering.
23 וְהֵבִיא אֹתָם בַּיֹּום הַשְּׁמִינִי לְטָהֳרָתֹו אֶל־הַכֹּהֵן אֶל־פֶּתַח אֹהֶל־מֹועֵד לִפְנֵי יְהוָה23 He wil bring these on the eighth day to the priest at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting beforeYahweh, for his purification.
24 וְלָקַח הַכֹּהֵן אֶת־כֶּבֶשׂ הָאָשָׁם וְאֶת־לֹג הַשָּׁמֶן וְהֵנִיף אֹתָם הַכֹּהֵן תְּנוּפָה לִפְנֵי יְהוָה24 The priest wil take the lamb for the sacrifice of reparation and the log of oil, and present them beforeYahweh with the gesture of offering.
25 וְשָׁחַט אֶת־כֶּבֶשׂ הָאָשָׁם וְלָקַח הַכֹּהֵן מִדַּם הָאָשָׁם וְנָתַן עַל־תְּנוּךְ אֹזֶן־הַמִּטַּהֵר הַיְמָנִית וְעַל־בֹּהֶן יָדֹו הַיְמָנִית וְעַל־בֹּהֶן רַגְלֹו הַיְמָנִית25 He wil then slaughter the lamb for the sacrifice of reparation, take some of its blood and put it on thelobe of the right ear, the thumb of the right hand and the big toe of the right foot of the person who is beingpurified.
26 וּמִן־הַשֶּׁמֶן יִצֹק הַכֹּהֵן עַל־כַּף הַכֹּהֵן הַשְּׂמָאלִית26 He wil pour the oil into the hol ow of his left hand,
27 וְהִזָּה הַכֹּהֵן בְּאֶצְבָּעֹו הַיְמָנִית מִן־הַשֶּׁמֶן אֲשֶׁר עַל־כַּפֹּו הַשְּׂמָאלִית שֶׁבַע פְּעָמִים לִפְנֵי יְהוָה27 and with his finger sprinkle the oil in the hol ow of his left hand seven times before Yahweh.
28 וְנָתַן הַכֹּהֵן מִן־הַשֶּׁמֶן ׀ אֲשֶׁר עַל־כַּפֹּו עַל־תְּנוּךְ אֹזֶן הַמִּטַּהֵר הַיְמָנִית וְעַל־בֹּהֶן יָדֹו הַיְמָנִית וְעַל־בֹּהֶן רַגְלֹו הַיְמָנִית עַל־מְקֹום דַּם הָאָשָׁם28 He wil then put some of the oil on the lobe of the right ear, the thumb of the right hand and the bigtoe of the right foot of the person who is being purified, as he did with the blood of the sacrifice of reparation.
29 וְהַנֹּותָר מִן־הַשֶּׁמֶן אֲשֶׁר עַל־כַּף הַכֹּהֵן יִתֵּן עַל־רֹאשׁ הַמִּטַּהֵר לְכַפֵּר עָלָיו לִפְנֵי יְהוָה29 The remainder of the oil in the hol ow of his hand he wil put on the head of the person who is beingpurified, thus performing the rite of expiation for him before Yahweh.
30 וְעָשָׂה אֶת־הָאֶחָד מִן־הַתֹּרִים אֹו מִן־בְּנֵי הַיֹּונָה מֵאֲשֶׁר תַּשִּׂיג יָדֹו30 Of the two turtledoves or two young pigeons -- whatever he has been able to afford -- he wil offer
31 אֵת אֲשֶׁר־תַּשִּׂיג יָדֹו אֶת־הָאֶחָד חַטָּאת וְאֶת־הָאֶחָד עֹלָה עַל־הַמִּנְחָה וְכִפֶּר הַכֹּהֵן עַל הַמִּטַּהֵר לִפְנֵי יְהוָה31 a sacrifice for sin with one, and with the other a burnt offering with a cereal offering -- whatever hehas been able to afford. This is how the priest will perform before Yahweh the rite of expiation for the person whois being purified.
32 זֹאת תֹּורַת אֲשֶׁר־בֹּו נֶגַע צָרָעַת אֲשֶׁר לֹא־תַשִּׂיג יָדֹו בְּטָהֳרָתֹו׃ פ32 'Such is the law concerning someone with a contagious skin-disease who cannot afford the means ofpurification.'
33 וַיְדַבֵּר יְהוָה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה וְאֶל־אַהֲרֹן לֵאמֹר33 Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron and said:
34 כִּי תָבֹאוּ אֶל־אֶרֶץ כְּנַעַן אֲשֶׁר אֲנִי נֹתֵן לָכֶם לַאֲחֻזָּה וְנָתַתִּי נֶגַע צָרַעַת בְּבֵית אֶרֶץ אֲחֻזַּתְכֶם34 'When you reach Canaan, which I am giving you as your possession, if I infect a house with adisease in the country which you are to possess,
35 וּבָא אֲשֶׁר־לֹו הַבַּיִת וְהִגִּיד לַכֹּהֵן לֵאמֹר כְּנֶגַע נִרְאָה לִי בַּבָּיִת35 the owner wil come and inform the priest and say, "I have seen something like a skin-disease in thehouse."
36 וְצִוָּה הַכֹּהֵן וּפִנּוּ אֶת־הַבַּיִת בְּטֶרֶם יָבֹא הַכֹּהֵן לִרְאֹות אֶת־הַנֶּגַע וְלֹא יִטְמָא כָּל־אֲשֶׁר בַּבָּיִת וְאַחַר כֵּן יָבֹא הַכֹּהֵן לִרְאֹות אֶת־הַבָּיִת36 The priest wil order the house to be emptied before he goes to examine the infection, or everything inthe house wil become unclean; after which, the priest wil go inside and examine the house;
37 וְרָאָה אֶת־הַנֶּגַע וְהִנֵּה הַנֶּגַע בְּקִירֹת הַבַּיִת שְׁקַעֲרוּרֹת יְרַקְרַקֹּת אֹו אֲדַמְדַּמֹּת וּמַרְאֵיהֶן שָׁפָל מִן־הַקִּיר37 and if on examination he finds the wal s of the house pitted with reddish or greenish depressionswhich appear to be eating away the wall,
38 וְיָצָא הַכֹּהֵן מִן־הַבַּיִת אֶל־פֶּתַח הַבָּיִת וְהִסְגִּיר אֶת־הַבַּיִת שִׁבְעַת יָמִים38 the priest wil then go out of the house, to the door, and shut it up for seven days.
39 וְשָׁב הַכֹּהֵן בַּיֹּום הַשְּׁבִיעִי וְרָאָה וְהִנֵּה פָּשָׂה הַנֶּגַע בְּקִירֹת הַבָּיִת39 On the seventh day, the priest will come back and if on examination he finds that the infection hasspread over the walls of the house,
40 וְצִוָּה הַכֹּהֵן וְחִלְּצוּ אֶת־הָאֲבָנִים אֲשֶׁר בָּהֵן הַנָּגַע וְהִשְׁלִיכוּ אֶתְהֶן אֶל־מִחוּץ לָעִיר אֶל־מָקֹום טָמֵא40 he wil order the infected stones to be removed and thrown into some unclean place outside the town.
41 וְאֶת־הַבַּיִת יַקְצִעַ מִבַּיִת סָבִיב וְשָׁפְכוּ אֶת־הֶעָפָר אֲשֶׁר הִקְצוּ אֶל־מִחוּץ לָעִיר אֶל־מָקֹום טָמֵא41 He wil then have all the inside of the house scraped, and the plaster that comes off will be emptied inan unclean place outside the town.
42 וְלָקְחוּ אֲבָנִים אֲחֵרֹות וְהֵבִיאוּ אֶל־תַּחַת הָאֲבָנִים וְעָפָר אַחֵר יִקַּח וְטָח אֶת־הַבָּיִת42 The stones wil then be replaced with new ones and the house given a new coat of plaster.
43 וְאִם־יָשׁוּב הַנֶּגַע וּפָרַח בַּבַּיִת אַחַר חִלֵּץ אֶת־הָאֲבָנִים וְאַחֲרֵי הִקְצֹות אֶת־הַבַּיִת וְאַחֲרֵי הִטֹּוחַ43 'If the infection spreads again after the stones have been removed and the house scraped andreplastered,
44 וּבָא הַכֹּהֵן וְרָאָה וְהִנֵּה פָּשָׂה הַנֶּגַע בַּבָּיִת צָרַעַת מַמְאֶרֶת הִוא בַּבַּיִת טָמֵא הוּא44 the priest wil come and examine it. If he finds that the infection has spread, this means that there is acontagious disease in the house: it is unclean.
45 וְנָתַץ אֶת־הַבַּיִת אֶת־אֲבָנָיו וְאֶת־עֵצָיו וְאֵת כָּל־עֲפַר הַבָּיִת וְהֹוצִיא אֶל־מִחוּץ לָעִיר אֶל־מָקֹום טָמֵא45 It must be pul ed down and the stones, woodwork and al the plaster be taken to an unclean placeoutside the town.
46 וְהַבָּא אֶל־הַבַּיִת כָּל־יְמֵי הִסְגִּיר אֹתֹו יִטְמָא עַד־הָעָרֶב46 'Anyone who enters the house while it is closed wil be unclean until evening.
47 וְהַשֹּׁכֵב בַּבַּיִת יְכַבֵּס אֶת־בְּגָדָיו וְהָאֹכֵל בַּבַּיִת יְכַבֵּס אֶת־בְּגָדָיו47 Anyone who sleeps there wil wash his clothes. Anyone who eats there will wash his clothes.
48 וְאִם־בֹּא יָבֹא הַכֹּהֵן וְרָאָה וְהִנֵּה לֹא־פָשָׂה הַנֶּגַע בַּבַּיִת אַחֲרֵי הִטֹּחַ אֶת־הַבָּיִת וְטִהַר הַכֹּהֵן אֶת־הַבַּיִת כִּי נִרְפָּא הַנָּגַע48 But if the priest finds, when he comes to examine the infection, that it has not spread in the housesince it was plastered, he wil declare the house clean, for the infection is cured.
49 וְלָקַח לְחַטֵּא אֶת־הַבַּיִת שְׁתֵּי צִפֳּרִים וְעֵץ אֶרֶז וּשְׁנִי תֹולַעַת וְאֵזֹב49 'As a sacrifice for the defilement of the house, he wil take two birds, some cedar wood, scarletmaterial and hyssop.
50 וְשָׁחַט אֶת־הַצִּפֹּר הָאֶחָת אֶל־כְּלִי־חֶרֶשׂ עַל־מַיִם חַיִּים50 He wil slaughter one of the birds in an earthenware pot over running water.
51 וְלָקַח אֶת־עֵץ־הָאֶרֶז וְאֶת־הָאֵזֹב וְאֵת ׀ שְׁנִי הַתֹּולַעַת וְאֵת הַצִּפֹּר הַחַיָּה וְטָבַל אֹתָם בְּדַם הַצִּפֹּר הַשְּׁחוּטָה וּבַמַּיִם הַחַיִּים וְהִזָּה אֶל־הַבַּיִת שֶׁבַע פְּעָמִים51 He wil then take the cedar wood, the hyssop, the scarlet material and the live bird, dip them into theblood of the slaughtered bird and into the running water and sprinkle the house seven times;
52 וְחִטֵּא אֶת־הַבַּיִת בְּדַם הַצִּפֹּור וּבַמַּיִם הַחַיִּים וּבַצִּפֹּר הַחַיָּה וּבְעֵץ הָאֶרֶז וּבָאֵזֹב וּבִשְׁנִי הַתֹּולָעַת52 and after offering the sacrifice for the defilement of the house with the blood of the bird, the runningwater, the live bird, the cedar wood, the hyssop and the scarlet material,
53 וְשִׁלַּח אֶת־הַצִּפֹּר הַחַיָּה אֶל־מִחוּץ לָעִיר אֶל־פְּנֵי הַשָּׂדֶה וְכִפֶּר עַל־הַבַּיִת וְטָהֵר53 he wil set the live bird free to fly out of the town into the countryside. Once the rite of expiation hasbeen performed for the house in this way it wil be clean.
54 זֹאת הַתֹּורָה לְכָל־נֶגַע הַצָּרַעַת וְלַנָּתֶק54 'Such is the law governing all kinds of skin-disease and tinea,
55 וּלְצָרַעַת הַבֶּגֶד וְלַבָּיִת55 diseases of clothing and houses,
56 וְלַשְׂאֵת וְלַסַּפַּחַת וְלַבֶּהָרֶת56 swel ings, scabs and spots. It defines the occasions when things are unclean and when clean.
57 לְהֹורֹת בְּיֹום הַטָּמֵא וּבְיֹום הַטָּהֹר זֹאת תֹּורַת הַצָּרָעַת׃ ס57 Such is the law on skin-diseases.'
