Ezequiel 14

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Vieram à minha procura alguns anciãos de Israel, e se assentaram junto de mim.	1 Next, some elders of Israel visited me and while they were sitting with me,
2 A palavra do Senhor foi-me então dirigida nestes termos:	2 the word of Yahweh was addressed to me as fol ows,
3 filho do homem, esses homens têm os ídolos instalados no coração, e eles têm constantemente diante dos olhos o que os leva a cair no pecado. É preciso deixar-me consultar por eles?	3 'Son of man, these men have enshrined their foul idols in their hearts and placed the cause of theirsinning right before their eyes. Why should I let myself be consulted by them?
4 Pois bem, fala-lhes e anuncia-lhes: eis o que diz o Senhor Javé: se acontecer a um israelita, que tem ídolos instalados no coração e conserva diante dos olhos o que o faz cair no pecado, vir ter com um profeta, sou eu, o Senhor, que lhe responderei pessoalmente segundo a multidão dos seus ídolos,	4 So speak to them; tel them this, "Lord Yahweh says this: Every member of the House of Israel whoenshrines his foul idols in his heart and places the cause of his sinning right before his eyes, and who thenapproaches the prophet, wil get this answer from me, Yahweh, as the multiplicity of his idols deserves,
5 a fim de atingir no coração essa casa de Israel que, por amor aos seus ídolos, se tem afastado de mim.	5 and in this way I hope to win back the hearts of the House of Israel who have al been estranged fromme by their foul idols."
6 Por isso diz à casa de Israel: eis o que diz o Senhor Javé: retornai! Renunciai a vossos ídolos, deixai de vez todas as vossas práticas abomináveis.	6 'So say to the House of Israel, "The Lord Yahweh says this: Come back, turn away from your foulidols, turn your backs on al your loathsome practices;
7 Se efetivamente sucede a algum israelita ou, também, a algum estrangeiro que more em Israel afastar-se de mim e instalar ídolos no coração, conservando diante dos olhos o que o faz cair no pecado, e depois se dirigir a um profeta para me consultar por seu ministério,	7 for if any member of the House of Israel -- or any foreigner living in Israel -- deserts me to enshrine hisfoul idols in his heart and places the cause of his sinning right before his eyes and then approaches a prophet toconsult me through him, he will get his answer from me, Yahweh.
8 sou eu, o Senhor, que hei de responder contra esse homem; farei dele um exemplo que se há de tornar proverbial, porque o eliminarei do meu povo, e sabereis por essa forma que eu sou o Senhor.	8 I shal set my face against that person; I shall make him an example and a byword; I shal rid mypeople of him, and you wil know that I am Yahweh.
9 E, se o profeta se deixar seduzir e proferir um oráculo, é que eu, o Senhor, o terei seduzido; estenderei a mão contra ele e o farei seduzir; contra ele estenderei a mão, e o farei desaparecer do meio do meu povo de Israel.	9 And if the prophet is seduced into saying something, I, Yahweh, shall have seduced that prophet; Ishall point my finger at him and rid my people Israel of him.
10 Carregarão o peso da sua falta, tanto o consulente como o profeta,	10 Both wil be punished for their guilt; the prophet's punishment wil be the same as that of the personwho consults him,
11 a fim de que a casa de Israel não se afaste para longe de mim, e não se manche por causa de todos os seus delitos. Então eles serão o meu povo e eu serei o seu Deus - oráculo do Senhor Javé.	11 so that the House of Israel wil never stray from me again or defile themselves again with thesecrimes, but be my people and I their God -- declares the Lord Yahweh." '
12 A palavra do Senhor foi-me dirigida nestes termos:	12 The word of Yahweh was addressed to me:
13 filho do homem, se uma terra pecasse contra mim por infidelidade e eu estendesse contra ela a mão, suprimindo-lhe o pão que fortifica, e a ela enviasse a fome exterminadora dos animais e dos homens,	13 'Son of man, when a country sins against me by being unfaithful and I point my finger at it anddestroy its supply of food, inflicting famine on it and denuding it of human and animal,
14 ainda que houvesse nessa terra Noé, Daniel e Jó, esses três homens só salvariam a si próprios, devido à sua justiça - oráculo do Senhor Javé.	14 even if the three men, Noah, Danel and Job, were living in it, they would save no one but themselvesby their uprightness -- declares the Lord Yahweh.
15 Se eu deixasse os animais ferozes percorrerem a terra para devorar as crianças e transformarem-na em deserto, onde ninguém, por temor dessas feras, ousasse passar,	15 Were I to unleash wild beasts on that country to rob it of its children and reduce it to a desert whichno one would dare to cross because of the animals,
16 e se esses três homens se encontrassem nessa terra - por minha vida! - oráculo do Senhor Javé -, eles não poderiam salvar nem seus filhos nem suas filhas; somente eles escapariam e a terra continuaria deserta.	16 even if these three men were living there, as I live -- declares the Lord Yahweh -- they would not beable to save either son or daughter; they alone would be saved, and the country would become a desert.
17 Ou, se eu fizesse vir a espada sobre essa terra, dizendo: que a espada passe por aqui e corte indistintamente homens e animais,	17 Were I to bring the sword down on that country and say, "Sword, cross the country!" so as to denude it of human and animal,
18 e se esses três homens se encontrassem aí - por minha vida! - oráculo do Senhor Javé -, não poderiam eles salvar nem seus filhos nem suas filhas; somente eles seriam salvos.	18 even if these three men were living there, as I live -- declares the Lord Yahweh -- they would not beable to save either son or daughter; they alone would be saved.
19 Ou ainda, se eu enviasse a peste sobre essa terra, e fizesse cair sobre ela o meu furor no sangue, exterminando homens e feras,	19 If I were to send the plague on that country and vent my fury on it by bloodshed, so as to denude it ofhuman and animal,
20 e se Noé, Daniel e Jó se encontrassem aí - por minha vida! - oráculo do Senhor Javé -, não poderiam eles garantir por sua justiça nem seus filhos nem suas filhas, mas somente a sua própria vida.	20 even if Noah and Danel and Job were living there, as I live -- declares the Lord Yahweh -- they wouldbe able to save neither son nor daughter, only themselves by their uprightness.
21 Assim fala o Senhor Deus: mesmo que lance eu os meus quatro funestos flagelos - a espada, a fome, as feras e a peste - contra Jerusalém, para exterminar dela homens e animais,	21 'The Lord Yahweh says this, "Even if I send my four dreadful scourges on Jerusalem-sword, famine,wild beasts and plague -- to denude it of human and animal,
22 subsistirão entretanto alguns sobreviventes, filhos e filhas, que sairão da cidade. Eis que eles virão até vós. Quando tiverdes visto seu proceder e seus atos, vós vos consolareis das calamidades que eu houver desencadeado contra Jerusalém, de tudo quanto eu lhe houver infligido,	22 even so, there wil be a remnant left, a few men and women who come through; when they come toyou and you see their conduct and actions, you wil take comfort in spite of the disaster which I have brought onJerusalem, in spite of al I have brought on her.
23 Eles vos consolarão, quando houverdes observado o seu comportamento e seus atos: reconhecereis não ser sem motivo que eu tratei a cidade como fiz - oráculo do Senhor Javé.	23 They will comfort you, when you see their conduct and actions, and so you wil know that I have notdone in vain al I have done to her -- declares the Lord Yahweh." '
