1 Meu espírito se compraz em três coisas que têm a aprovação de Deus e dos homens:	1 My spirit is pleased with three things; these are approved in the sight of God and men:
2 a união entre os irmãos, o amor entre os parentes, e um marido que vive bem com sua mulher.	2 the harmony of brothers, and the love of neighbors, and a husband and wife agreeing well together.
3 Mas há três espécies de gente que minha alma detesta, e cuja vida me é insuportável:	3 My soul hates three kinds of things; and I am greatly distressed over their souls:
4 um pobre orgulhoso, um rico mentiroso e um ancião louco e insensato.	4 an arrogant pauper, a wealthy liar, a foolish and senseless elder.
5 Como acharás na velhice aquilo que não tiveres acumulado na juventude?	5 The things that you have not obtained in your youth, how will you find them in your old age?
6 Quão belo é para a velhice o saber julgar, e para os anciãos o saber aconselhar!	6 How beautiful it is for a grey head to have judgment, and for elders to know counsel!
7 Quão bela é a sabedoria nas pessoas de idade avançada, e a inteligência com a prudência nas pessoas honradas!	7 How beautiful it is for those who are aged to have wisdom, and for those who are honored to have understanding and counsel!
8 A experiência consumada é a coroa dos anciãos; o temor de Deus é a sua glória.	8 Great experience is the crown of the aged, and the fear of God is their glory.
9 Nove coisas se apresentam ao meu espírito, as quais considero felizes, e uma décima que anunciarei aos homens:	9 I have magnified nine things, overlooked by the heart; and a tenth, I will declare to men with my tongue:
10 um homem que encontra a sua alegria em seus filhos; um homem que vive o bastante para ver a ruína de seus inimigos;	10 a man who finds joy in his children, and one who lives to see the undoing of his enemies.
11 aquele - feliz dele! - que vive com uma mulher sensata, e que não pecou pela língua, nem teve de servir a pessoas indignas dele.	11 Blessed is he who lives with a wise wife, and he who has not slipped with his tongue, and he who has not served those unworthy of himself.
12 Feliz aquele que encontrou um amigo verdadeiro, e que fala da justiça a um ouvido atento.	12 Blessed is he who finds a true friend, and he who describes justice to an attentive ear.
13 Como é grande aquele que encontrou sabedoria e ciência! Mas nada é tão grande como aquele que teme ao Senhor:	13 How great is he who finds wisdom and knowledge! But there is no one above him who fears the Lord.
14 o temor a Deus coloca-o acima de tudo.	14 The fear of God has set itself above all things.
15 Feliz o homem que recebeu o dom do temor a Deus.	15 Blessed is the man to whom it has been given to have the fear of God. He who holds to it, to whom can he be compared?
16 O temor a Deus é o começo de seu amor, e a ele é preciso acrescentar um princípio de fé.	16 The fear of God is the beginning of his love; and the beginning of faith has been joined closely to the same.
17 A tristeza do coração é uma chaga universal, e a maldade feminina é uma malícia consumada.	17 The sadness of the heart is every wound. And the wickedness of a wife is every malice.
18 Toda chaga, não, porém, a chaga do coração;	18 And a man will choose any wound, but the wound of the heart,
19 toda malícia, não, porém, a malícia da mulher;	19 and any wickedness, but the wickedness of a wife,
20 toda vingança, não, porém, a que nos causam nossos adversários;	20 and any obstacle, but the obstacle of those who hate him,
21 toda vingança, não, porém, a de nossos inimigos.	21 and any vindication, but the vindication of his enemies.
22 Não há veneno pior que o das serpentes;	22 There is no head worse than the head of a serpent,
23 não há cólera que vença a da mulher. É melhor viver com um leão e um dragão, que morar com uma mulher maldosa.	23 and there is no anger above the anger of a wife. It would be more agreeable to abide with a lion or a dragon, than to live with a wicked wife.
24 A malícia de uma mulher transtorna-lhe as feições, obscurece-lhe o olhar como o de um urso, e dá-lhe uma tez com a aparência de saco.	24 A wicked wife changes her face. And she darkens her countenance like a bear. And she displays it like sackcloth. In the midst of her neighbors,
25 Entre seus parentes, queixa-se o seu marido, e, ouvindo-os, suspira amargamente.	25 her husband groans, and hearing of this, he sighs a little.
26 Toda malícia é leve, comparada com a malícia de uma mulher; que a sorte dos pecadores caia sobre ela!	26 All malice is brief compared to the malice of a wife. Let the fate of sinners fall upon her!
27 Como uma ladeira arenosa aos pés de um ancião, assim é a mulher tagarela para um marido pacato.	27 As climbing over sand is to the feet of the aged, so is a talkative wife to a quiet man.
28 Não contemples a beleza de uma mulher, não cobices uma mulher pela sua beleza.	28 You should not favor a woman’s beauty, and you should not desire a wife for her beauty.
29 Grandes são a cólera de uma mulher, sua audácia, sua desordem.	29 The anger and disrespect and shame from a wife can be great.
30 Se a mulher tiver o mando, ela se erguerá contra o marido.	30 The wife, if she has primacy, is set against her husband.
31 Coração abatido, semblante triste e chaga de coração: eis (o que faz) uma mulher maldosa.	31 A wicked wife debases the heart, and saddens the face, and wounds the heart.
32 Mãos lânguidas, joelhos que se dobram: eis (o que faz) uma mulher que não traz felicidade ao seu marido.	32 A wife who does not make her husband happy enfeebles the hands and weakens the knees.
33 Foi pela mulher que começou o pecado, e é por causa dela que todos morremos.	33 The beginning of sin came from a woman; and through her, we all die.
34 Não dês à tua água a mais ligeira abertura, nem à mulher maldosa a liberdade de sair a público.	34 You should not provide an exit to your water, not even a little; nor should you give permission for a wicked wife to exceed the limit.
35 Se ela não andar sob a direção de tuas mãos, ela te cobrirá de vergonha na presença de teus inimigos.	35 If she will not walk at your hand, she will confound you in the sight of your enemies.
36 Separa-te do seu corpo, a fim de que não abuse sempre de ti.	36 Tear her away from your body, lest she abuse you continually.
