SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 O Senhor disse a Moisés: "Vai, parte daqui com o povo que tiraste do Egito; ide para a terra que prometi a Abraão, a Isaac e a Jacó, com o juramento de dá-la à sua posteridade.	1 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Leave, move on from here, you and the people whom you have broughthere from Egypt, to the country that I swore to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob that I would give to their descendants.
2 Enviarei um anjo adiante de ti, e expulsarei os cananeus, os amorreus, os hiteus, os ferezeus, os heveus e os jebuseus.	2 I shal send an angel in front of you and drive out the Canaanites, the Amorites, the Hittites, thePerizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites.
3 Ide para essa terra que mana leite e mel. Mas não subirei convosco, porque sois um povo de cabeça dura; eu vos aniquilaria em caminho."	3 Move on towards a country flowing with milk and honey, but I myself shal not be going with you or Imight annihilate you on the way, for you are an obstinate people.'
4 Ouvindo o povo estas duras palavras, pôs-se a chorar e cada um tirou os seus enfeites.	4 On hearing these stern words the people went into mourning and no one wore his ornaments.
5 Então o Senhor disse a Moisés: "Dize aos israelitas: vós sois um povo de cabeça dura; se eu viesse um só instante no meio de vós, eu vos aniquilaria. Arrancai, pois, todos os vossos enfeites e verei o que posso fazer por vós."	5 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Say to the Israelites, "You are an obstinate people. If I were to go withyou even for a moment, I should annihilate you. So now take off your ornaments, and then I shal decide how todeal with you!" '
6 Os israelitas despojaram-se de seus enfeites ao partir do monte Horeb.	6 So, from Mount Horeb onwards, the Israelites stripped themselves of their ornaments.
7 Moisés foi levantar a tenda a alguma distância fora do acampamento. {E chamou-a tenda de reunião.} Quem queria consultar o Senhor, dirigia-se à tenda de reunião, fora do acampamento.	7 Moses used to take the Tent and pitch it outside the camp, far away from the camp. He called it theTent of Meeting. Anyone who wanted to consult Yahweh would go out to the Tent of Meeting, outside the camp.
8 Quando Moisés se dirigia para a tenda, todo mundo se levantava, cada um diante da entrada de sua tenda, para segui-lo com os olhos até que entrasse na tenda.	8 Whenever Moses went out to the Tent, the people would al stand up and every man would stand atthe door of his tent and watch Moses until he went into the Tent.
9 E logo que ele acabava de entrar, a coluna de nuvem descia e se punha à entrada da tenda, e o Senhor se entretinha com Moisés.	9 And whenever Moses went into the Tent, the pil ar of cloud would come down and station itself at theentrance to the Tent, while Yahweh spoke with Moses.
10 À vista da coluna de nuvem, todo o povo, em pé à entrada de suas tendas, se prostrava no mesmo lugar.	10 The people could al see the pil ar of cloud stationed at the entrance to the Tent and the people wouldal stand up and bow low, each at the door of his tent.
11 O Senhor se entretinha com Moisés face a face, como um homem fala com seu amigo. Voltava depois Moisés ao acampamento, mas seu ajudante, o jovem Josué, filho de Nun, não se apartava do interior da tenda.	11 Yahweh would talk to Moses face to face, as a man talks to his friend, and afterwards he would comeback to the camp, but the young man who was his servant, Joshua son of Nun, never left the inside of the Tent.
12 Moisés disse ao Senhor: "Vós dizeis-me que faça subir o povo, mas não me fazeis saber quem haveis designado para acompanhar-me. E, entretanto, dissestes-me: ?Conheço-te pelo teu nome? e: ?Tens todo o meu favor.?	12 Moses said to Yahweh, 'Look, you say to me, "Make the people move on," but you have not told mewhom you are going to send with me, although you have said, "I know you by name and you enjoy my favour."
13 Se é verdade que tenho todo o vosso favor, dai-me a conhecer os vossos desígnios, para que eu saiba que tenho todo o vosso favor; e considerai que esta nação é o vosso povo."	13 If indeed I enjoy your favour, please show me your ways, so that I understand you and continue toenjoy your favour; consider too that this nation is your people.'
14 O Senhor respondeu: "Minha face irá contigo, e serei o teu guia."	14 Yahweh then said, 'I myself shall go with you and I shall give you rest.'
15 "Se vossa face não vier conosco, disse Moisés, não nos façais partir deste lugar.	15 To which he said, 'If you do not come yourself, do not make us move on from here,
16 Por onde se saberá que temos todo o vosso favor, eu e o vosso povo? Porventura, não é necessário para isso justamente que marcheis conosco? É o que nos distinguirá, eu e o vosso povo, de todas as outras nações da terra."	16 for how can it be known that I and my people enjoy your favour, if not by your coming with us? By thiswe shal be marked out, I and your people, from al the peoples on the face of the earth.'
17 "O que pedes, replicou o Senhor, fá-lo-ei, porque tens todo o meu favor, e te conheço pelo teu nome."	17 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Again I shal do what you have asked, because you enjoy my favourand because I know you by name.'
18 Moisés disse: "Mostrai-me vossa glória."	18 He then said, 'Please show me your glory.'
19 E Deus respondeu: "Vou fazer passar diante de ti todo o meu esplendor, e pronunciarei diante de ti o nome de Javé. Dou a minha graça a quem quero, e uso de misericórdia com quem me apraz.	19 Yahweh said, 'I shal make al my goodness pass before you, and before you I shal pronounce thename Yahweh; and I am gracious to those to whom I am gracious and I take pity on those on whom I take pity.
20 Mas, ajuntou o Senhor, não poderás ver a minha face, pois o homem não me poderia ver e continuar a viver.	20 But my face', he said, 'you cannot see, for no human being can see me and survive.'
21 Eis um lugar perto de mim, disse o Senhor; tu estarás sobre a rocha.	21 Then Yahweh said, 'Here is a place near me. You will stand on the rock,
22 Quando minha glória passar, te porei na fenda da rocha e te cobrirei com a mão, até que eu tenha passado.	22 and when my glory passes by, I shal put you in a cleft of the rock and shield you with my hand until Ihave gone past.
23 Retirarei depois a mão, e me verás por detrás. Quanto à minha face, ela não pode ser vista".	23 Then I shal take my hand away and you will see my back; but my face wil not be seen.'
