Genesis 41

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Dois anos depois, o faraó teve um sonho: encontrava-se ele perto do Nilo,	1 Two years later it happened that Pharaoh had a dream: there he was, standing by the Nile,
2 de onde saíram sete vacas belas e gordas, que se puseram a pastar a verdura.	2 and there, coming up from the Nile, were seven cows, sleek and fat, and they began to feed amongthe rushes.
3 Mas, eis que saíram em seguida do mesmo Nilo sete outras vacas, feias e magras, que vieram e se puseram ao lado das outras na margem do rio.	3 And then seven other cows, wretched and lean, came up from the Nile, behind them; and these wentover and stood beside the other cows on the bank of the Nile.
4 As vacas feias e magras devoraram as sete vacas belas e gordas. E o faraó despertou.	4 The wretched and lean cows ate the seven sleek and fat cows. Then Pharaoh woke up.
5 Adormeceu de novo e teve outro sonho: sete espigas grossas e belas saíam de uma mesma haste.	5 He fel asleep and dreamed a second time: there, growing on one stalk, were seven ears of grain, fulland ripe.
6 Mas eis que em seguida germinaram sete outras espigas, magras e ressequidas pelo vento do oriente.	6 And then sprouting up, behind them, came seven ears of grain, meagre and scorched by the eastwind.
7 E as espigas magras devoraram as sete espigas grossas e cheias. E o faraó despertou: era um sonho.	7 The scanty ears of grain swal owed the seven ful and ripe ears of grain. Then Pharaoh woke up; ithad been a dream.
8 Chegada a manhã, o faraó com o espírito preocupado, mandou chamar todos os mágicos e sábios do Egito. Contou-lhes seus sonhos, mas nenhum deles soube explicá-los.	8 In the morning Pharaoh, feeling disturbed, had all the magicians and wise men of Egypt summoned tohim. Pharaoh told them his dream, but there was no one to interpret it for Pharaoh.
9 Então o copeiro-mor disse-lhe: "Vou confessar a minha falta.	9 Then the chief cup-bearer addressed Pharaoh, 'Today, I recal having been at fault.
10 Um dia, tendo-se o faraó irado contra os seus servos, mandou-me meter na prisão em casa do chefe da guarda, com o padeiro-mor.	10 When Pharaoh was angry with his servants, he put myself and the chief baker in custody in thehouse of the commander of the guard.
11 Eis que uma noite tivemos nós dois um sonho, cada um o seu.	11 We had a dream on the same night, he and I, and each man's dream had a meaning for himself.
12 Ora, estava lá conosco um jovem hebreu, escravo do chefe da guarda. Contamos-lhe nossos sonhos, e ele no-los interpretou, a cada um o seu.	12 There was a young Hebrew with us, one of the slaves belonging to the commander of the guard. Wetold our dreams to him and he interpreted them for us, tel ing each of us what his dream meant.
13 E os acontecimentos confirmaram sua interpretação: eu fui restabelecido no meu cargo, e o outro foi pendurado."	13 It turned out exactly according to his interpretation: I was restored to my position, but the other manwas hanged.'
14 O faraó mandou chamar José, o qual foi, imediatamente, tirado do cárcere. Ele barbeou-se, trocou de roupas e apresentou-se diante do faraó.	14 Then Pharaoh had Joseph summoned, and they hurried him from the dungeon. He shaved andchanged his clothes, and presented himself before Pharaoh.
15 Este disse-lhe: "Tive um sonho que ninguém pôde interpretar. Mas ouvi dizer de ti, que basta contar-te um sonho para que tu o expliques."	15 Pharaoh said to Joseph, 'I have had a dream, and there is no one to interpret it. But I have heard itsaid of you that you can interpret a dream the instant you hear it.'
16 "Não sou eu, respondeu José, mas é Deus quem dará ao faraó uma explicação favorável."	16 'Not I,' Joseph replied to Pharaoh, 'God wil give Pharaoh a favourable answer.'
17 O faraó disse então a José: "Em meu sonho, eu estava à margem do Nilo,	17 So Pharaoh told Joseph, 'In my dream there I was, standing on the bank of the Nile.
18 e eis que do Nilo saíram sete vacas gordas e belas, que se puseram a pastar a verdura.	18 And there were seven cows, fat and sleek, coming up out of the Nile, and they began to feed amongthe rushes.
19 E saíram em seguida sete outras vacas magras, feias e disformes, como jamais vi em todo o Egito.	19 And then seven other cows came up, behind them, starved, very wretched and lean; I have neverseen such poor cows in all Egypt.
20 As vacas magras e feias devoraram as sete primeiras, as gordas,	20 The lean and wretched cows ate up the first seven fat cows.
21 que entraram em seu ventre como se nada fossem, pois ficaram tão macilentas e feias como antes. Nesta altura despertei.	21 But when they had eaten them up, it was impossible to tel they had eaten them, for they looked aswretched as ever. Then I woke up.
22 E tive outro sonho: vi elevar-se de uma mesma haste sete espigas cheias e belas.	22 And then again in my dream, there, growing on one stalk, were seven ears of grain, beautiful y ripe;
23 Mas eis que sete outras espigas medíocres, finas e queimadas pelo vento do oriente, germinaram em seguida;	23 but then sprouting up behind them came seven ears of grain, withered, meagre and scorched by theeast wind.
24 e as espigas magras engoliram as sete belas espigas. Em vão contei tudo isto aos mágicos; nenhum deles pôde dar-me a explicação".	24 Then the shrivel ed ears of grain swal owed the seven ripe ears of grain. I have told the magicians,but no one has given me the answer.'
25 José disse ao faraó: "O {duplo} sonho do faraó reduz-se a um só. Deus revelou ao faraó o que ele vai fazer.	25 Joseph said to Pharaoh, 'Pharaoh's dreams are one and the same: God has revealed to Pharaohwhat he is going to do.
26 As sete belas vacas são sete anos, e as sete belas espigas, igualmente, sete anos; o sonho é um só.	26 The seven fine cows are seven years and the seven ripe ears of grain are seven years; it is one andthe same dream.
27 As sete vacas magras e feias que saíram em seguida são também sete anos; e as sete espigas vazias e queimadas pelo vento do oriente serão sete anos de miséria.	27 The seven gaunt and lean cows coming up behind them are seven years, as are the seven shrivel edears of grain scorched by the east wind: there wil be seven years of famine.
28 É como eu disse ao faraó: Deus lhe revela o que vai fazer.	28 It is as I have told Pharaoh: God has revealed to Pharaoh what he is going to do.
29 Haverá sete anos de grande abundância para todo o Egito.	29 Seven years are coming, bringing great plenty to the whole of Egypt,
30 Virão em seguida sete anos de miséria que farão esquecer toda a abundância no Egito. A fome devastará o país.	30 but seven years of famine will fol ow them, when al the plenty in Egypt wil be forgotten, and faminewil exhaust the land.
31 E a abundância do país não será mais notada, por causa da fome que se seguirá, porque será violenta.	31 The famine that is to fol ow wil be so very severe that no one wil remember what plenty the countryused to enjoy.
32 Se o sonho se repetiu duas vezes ao faraó, é que a coisa está bem decretada da parte de Deus, que vai apressar-se em executá-la.	32 The reason why Pharaoh had the same dream twice is that the event is already determined by God,and God wil shortly bring it about.
33 Agora, pois, escolha o rei um homem sábio e prudente para pô-lo à testa do país.	33 'Pharaoh should now find someone intel igent and wise to govern Egypt.
34 Nomeie também o faraó administradores no país, que recolham a quinta parte das colheitas do Egito, durante os sete anos de abundância.	34 Pharaoh should take action and appoint supervisors for the country, and impose a tax of one-fifth onEgypt during the seven years of plenty.
35 Eles ajuntarão todos os produtos destes bons anos que vêm, e armazenarão o trigo nas cidades, à disposição do faraó como provisões a conservar.	35 They wil col ect al the food produced during these good years that are coming, and store the grainunder Pharaoh's authority, putting it in the towns and keeping it.
36 Estes mantimentos formarão para o país uma reserva em previsão dos sete anos de fome que assolarão o Egito. Dessa forma o país não será arruinado pela fome."	36 This food wil form a reserve for the country against the seven years of famine which are coming onEgypt, so that the country wil not be destroyed by the famine.'
37 Essas palavras agradaram o faraó e toda a sua gente.	37 Pharaoh and all his ministers approved of what he had said.
38 "Poderíamos, disse-lhes ele, encontrar um homem que tenha, tanto como este, o espírito de Deus?"	38 Then Pharaoh asked his ministers, 'Can we find anyone else endowed with the spirit of God, likehim?'
39 E disse em seguida a José: "Pois que Deus te revelou tudo isto, não haverá ninguém tão prudente e tão sábio como tu.	39 So Pharaoh said to Joseph, 'Since God has given you knowledge of al this, there can be no one asintelligent and wise as you.
40 Tu mesmo serás posto à frente de toda a minha casa, e todo o meu povo obedecerá à tua palavra: só o trono me fará maior do que tu."	40 You shall be my chancel or, and al my people shall respect your orders; only this throne shal set meabove you.'
41 "Vês, disse-lhe ainda, eis que te ponho à testa de todo o Egito."	41 Pharaoh said to Joseph, 'I hereby make you governor of the whole of Egypt.'
42 E o faraó, tirando o anel de sua mão, pôs na mão de José; e o fez revestir-se de vestes de linho fino e meteu-lhe ao pescoço um colar de ouro.	42 Pharaoh took the ring from his hand and put it on Joseph's. He dressed him in robes of fine linen andput a gold chain round his neck.
43 E, fazendo-o montar no segundo dos seus carros, mandou que se clamasse diante dele: "Ajoelhai-vos!" É assim que ele foi posto à frente de todo o Egito,	43 He made him ride in the best chariot he had after his own, and they shouted 'Abrek!' ahead of him.Thus he became governor of the whole of Egypt.
44 e o faraó disse-lhe: "Sou eu o faraó: sem tua permissão não se moverá a mão nem o pé em toda a terra do Egito."	44 Pharaoh said to Joseph, 'Although I am Pharaoh, no one is to move hand or foot without yourpermission throughout Egypt.'
45 O faraó chamou a José Tsafenat-Paneac, e deu-lhe por mulher Asenet, filha de Putifar, sacerdote de On.	45 Pharaoh named Joseph Zaphenath-Paneah, and gave him Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest ofOn, to be his wife. And Joseph began to journey al over Egypt.
46 José tinha trinta anos quando se apresentou diante do faraó, o rei do Egito. Ele retirou-se da casa do faraó e percorreu todo o país.	46 Joseph was thirty years old when he entered the service of Pharaoh king of Egypt. After leavingPharaoh's presence, Joseph travel ed throughout the length and breadth of Egypt.
47 A terra produziu abundantemente durante os sete anos de fertilidade.	47 During the seven years of plenty, the soil yielded generously.
48 José ajuntou todo o produto destes sete anos no Egito e os pôs em reserva nas cidades, e os mantimentos dos campos que estavam ao redor de cada cidade, guardou-os na mesma cidade.	48 He col ected al the food of the seven years while there was an abundance in Egypt, and stored thefood in the towns, placing in each the food from the surrounding countryside.
49 José ajuntou trigo como a areia do mar, em tal quantidade que se não podia contar, pois que ela excedia a toda a medida.	49 Joseph gathered in grain like the sand of the sea, in such quantity that he gave up keeping count,since it was past accounting.
50 Antes que viesse o ano de fome, nasceram a José dois filhos, que lhe deu Asenet, filha de Putifar, sacerdote de On.	50 Before the year of famine came, two sons were born to Joseph: Asenath daughter of Potiphera,priest of On, bore him these.
51 José chamou ao primeiro Manassés, "porque, dizia ele, Deus fez-me esquecer de todo o meu trabalho e de toda a minha família."	51 Joseph named the first-born Manasseh, 'Because', he said, 'God has made me completely forget myhardships and my father's House.'
52 Chamou ao segundo Efraim, "porque, disse ele, Deus tornou-me fecundo na terra de minha aflição."	52 He named the second Ephraim, 'Because', he said, 'God has made me fruitful in the country of mymisfortune.'
53 Tendo acabado os sete anos de abundância que houve no Egito,	53 Then the seven years of plenty that there had been in Egypt came to an end,
54 os sete anos de miséria começaram, assim como o tinha predito José. A fome assolou todos os países, mas havia pão em toda a terra do Egito.	54 and the seven years of famine set in, as Joseph had predicted. There was famine in every country,but throughout Egypt there was food.
55 Em seguida houve fome também no Egito, e o povo clamou ao faraó pedindo pão. Este disse a todos os egípcios: "Ide a José, e fazei o que ele vos disser."	55 But when al Egypt too began to feel the famine and the people appealed to Pharaoh for food,Pharaoh told all the Egyptians, 'Go to Joseph and do whatever he tells you.'
56 Como a fome assolasse toda a terra, José abriu todos os celeiros e vendeu víveres aos egípcios. Mas a penúria cresceu no Egito.	56 There was famine all over the world. Then Joseph opened al the granaries and rationed out grain tothe Egyptians, as the famine grew even worse in Egypt.
57 E de toda a terra vinha-se ao Egito comprar trigo a José, porque a fome era violenta em toda a terra.	57 People came to Egypt from al over the world to get supplies from Joseph, for the famine had grownsevere throughout the world.
