Vangelo secondo Giovanni 17

LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Così parlò Gesù e, levati gli occhi al cielo, disse: "Padre, l'ora è venuta. Glorifica il Figlio tuo affinché il Figlio glorifichi te.	1 After saying this, Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and said: Father, the hour has come: glorify yourSon so that your Son may glorify you;
2 Come gli hai dato potere su ogni carne, dia egli la vita eterna a tutti coloro che tu gli hai dato.	2 so that, just as you have given him power over all humanity, he may give eternal life to al those youhave entrusted to him.
3 Questa è la vita eterna: che conoscano te, il solo vero Dio, e colui che tu hai mandato, Gesù Cristo.	3 And eternal life is this: to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
4 Io ti ho glorificato sulla terra, avendo compiuta l'opera che tu mi hai dato da fare.	4 I have glorified you on earth by finishing the work that you gave me to do.
5 Ora glorificami tu, Padre, davanti a te, con la gloria che io avevo presso di te prima che il mondo fosse.	5 Now, Father, glorify me with that glory I had with you before ever the world existed.
6 Ho manifestato il tuo nome agli uomini che mi hai dato dal mondo. Erano tuoi e li hai dati a me, e hanno osservato la tua parola.	6 I have revealed your name to those whom you took from the world to give me. They were yours andyou gave them to me, and they have kept your word.
7 Ora essi sanno che tutto quanto mi hai dato viene da te,	7 Now at last they have recognised that all you have given me comes from you
8 perché le parole che tu mi hai date io le ho date a loro ed essi le hanno accolte e sanno veramente che sono uscito da te e hanno creduto che tu mi hai mandato".	8 for I have given them the teaching you gave to me, and they have indeed accepted it and know forcertain that I came from you, and have believed that it was you who sent me.
9 "Io prego per loro; non prego per il mondo, ma per coloro che tu mi hai dato, perché sono tuoi.	9 It is for them that I pray. I am not praying for the world but for those you have given me, because theybelong to you.
10 Tutto ciò che è mio è tuo e quello che è tuo è mio, e io sono stato glorificato in loro.	10 All I have is yours and al you have is mine, and in them I am glorified.
11 Io non sono più nel mondo, ma essi sono nel mondo, mentre io vengo a te. Padre santo, conservali nel tuo nome che mi hai dato, affinché siano uno come noi.	11 I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keepthose you have given me true to your name, so that they may be one like us.
12 Quando ero con loro, io li ho conservati nel tuo nome che mi hai dato e li ho custoditi e nessuno di loro si è perduto, eccetto il figlio della perdizione, affinché si adempisse la Scrittura.	12 While I was with them, I kept those you had given me true to your name. I have watched over themand not one is lost except one who was destined to be lost, and this was to fulfil the scriptures.
13 Ora vengo a te e queste cose dico mentre sono nel mondo, affinché abbiano in loro la mia gioia in pienezza.	13 But now I am coming to you and I say these things in the world to share my joy with them to the full.
14 Io ho dato loro la tua parola e il mondo li ha odiati, perché non sono del mondo come io non sono del mondo.	14 I passed your word on to them, and the world hated them, because they belong to the world no morethan I belong to the world.
15 Non ti chiedo che li tolga dal mondo, ma che li preservi dal maligno.	15 I am not asking you to remove them from the world, but to protect them from the Evil One.
16 Essi non sono del mondo, come io non sono del mondo.	16 They do not belong to the world any more than I belong to the world.
17 Consacrali nella verità. La tua parola è verità.	17 Consecrate them in the truth; your word is truth.
18 Come tu mi hai mandato nel mondo, così anch'io li ho mandati nel mondo.	18 As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world,
19 E per loro consacro me stesso, affinché siano anch'essi consacrati nella verità".	19 and for their sake I consecrate myself so that they too may be consecrated in truth.
20 "Non prego solo per costoro, ma anche per coloro che crederanno in me mediante la loro parola:	20 I pray not only for these but also for those who through their teaching wil come to believe in me.
21 che tutti siano uno come tu, Padre, in me ed io in te, affinché siano anch'essi in noi, così che il mondo creda che tu mi hai mandato.	21 May they al be one, just as, Father, you are in me and I am in you, so that they also may be in us, sothat the world may believe it was you who sent me.
22 Io ho dato loro la gloria che tu mi hai data, perché siano uno come noi siamo uno:	22 I have given them the glory you gave to me, that they may be one as we are one.
23 io in loro e tu in me, perché siano perfetti nell'unità, e il mondo riconosca che tu mi hai mandato e li hai amati come hai amato me.	23 With me in them and you in me, may they be so perfected in unity that the world wil recognise that itwas you who sent me and that you have loved them as you have loved me.
24 Padre, voglio che anche quelli che tu mi hai dato siano con me, dove sono io, affinché contemplino la mia gloria, quella che tu mi hai dato, poiché mi hai amato prima della creazione del mondo.	24 Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, so that they may always see myglory which you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.
25 Padre giusto, il mondo non ti ha conosciuto, io invece ti ho conosciuto e costoro hanno riconosciuto che tu mi hai mandato.	25 Father, Upright One, the world has not known you, but I have known you, and these have known thatyou have sent me.
26 Io ho fatto loro conoscere il tuo nome e continuerò a farlo conoscere, affinché l'amore con cui tu mi hai amato sia in essi, ed io in loro".	26 I have made your name known to them and wil continue to make it known, so that the love withwhich you loved me may be in them, and so that I may be in them.
