1 Samuel 20

1 Then David fled from Naioth, which is in Ramah, and he went and said before Jonathan: “What have I done? What is my iniquity, or what is my sin, against your father, so that he would seek my life?”	1 David huyó de Naiot, en Ramá, y se presentó ante Jonatán. «¿Qué hice yo?, le dijo. ¿Cuál es mi falta o mi pecado contra tu padre, para que me persiga a muerte?».
2 And he said to him: “May this not be! You shall not die. For my father will not do anything, great or small, without first revealing it to me. Therefore, has my father concealed this word solely from me? By no means shall this be!”	2 Jonatán le respondió: «¡Ni pensarlo! ¡Tú no morirás! Mira, mi padre no hace absolutamente nada sin comunicármelo. ¿Por qué entonces me habría de ocultar este asunto? ¡No hay nada de eso!».
3 And he swore again to David. And David said: “Your father certainly knows that I have found favor in your sight, and so he will say, ‘Let Jonathan not know this, lest he be saddened.’ So truly, as the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, there is only one step (if I may say it) separating me from death.”	3 Pero David insistió: «Tu padre sabe muy bien que yo te he caído en gracia, y habrá pensado: «Que Jonatán no se entere, no sea que se entristezca». Sin embargo, ¡por la vida del Señor y por tu propia vida, estoy a un paso de la muerte!».
4 And Jonathan said to David, “Whatever your soul will tell me, I will do for you.”	4 Jonatán dijo a David: «Estoy dispuesto, a hacer por ti lo que tú me digas».
5 Then David said to Jonathan: “Behold, tomorrow is the new moon, and I am accustomed to sit in a seat beside the king to eat. Therefore, permit me that I may be hidden in the field, until the evening of the third day.	5 David le respondió: «Mañana es la luna nueva, y tendré que compartir la mesa con tu padre. Tú me dejarás partir, y yo me ocultaré al descampado hasta pasado mañana por la tarde.
6 If your father, looking around, will seek me, you shall respond to him: ‘David asked me if he may hurry to Bethlehem, his own city. For there are solemn sacrifices in that place for all of his tribe together.’	6 Si tu padre nota mi ausencia, tú le dirás: «David me insistió para que lo dejara ir de una corrida hasta Belén, su ciudad, porque allí se celebra el sacrificio anual de toda la familia».
7 If he will say, ‘It is well,’ then your servant will have peace. But if he will be angry, know that his malice has reached its height.	7 Si él dice: «Está bien», tu servidor podrá sentirse tranquilo. Pero si se pone furioso, sabrás que él ha decidido mi ruina.
8 Therefore, show mercy to your servant. For you have brought me, your servant, into a covenant of the Lord with you. But if there is any iniquity in me, you may kill me, and you shall not lead me in to your father.”	8 Sé leal con tu servidor, ya que le has hecho contraer contigo un pacto en nombre del Señor. Si en algo he faltado, mátame tú mismo. ¿Para qué me harás comparecer ante tu padre?».
9 And Jonathan said: “May this be far from you. For certainly, if I ever realized that any wickedness was determined by my father against you, I would not be able to do anything other than report it to you.”	9 «¡Ni lo pienses!, le dijo Jonatán. Si supiera realmente que mi padre está decidido a infligirte algún mal, seguro que te lo comunicaría».
10 And David responded to Jonathan, “Who will repeat it to me, if your father may perhaps answer you harshly about me?”	10 David le preguntó: «¿Quién me avisará si tu padre te responde duramente?».
11 And Jonathan said to David, “Come, and let us go out into the field.” And when they both had gone out into the field,	11 Jonatán dijo a David: «Vamos al campo». Y los dos salieron al campo.
12 Jonathan said before David: “O Lord, God of Israel, if I will discover a decision by my father, tomorrow, or the day after, and if there will be anything good concerning David, and yet I do not immediately send to you and make it known to you,	12 Jonatán dijo a David: «¡El Señor, el Dios de Israel, es testigo! Mañana o pasado mañana, a esta misma hora, trataré de averiguar las intenciones de mi padre. Si todo marcha bien para ti y no te mando a nadie que te avise,
13 may the Lord do these things to Jonathan, and may he add these other things. But if my father will have persevered in malice against you, I will reveal it to your ear, and I will send you away, so that you may go in peace, and so that the Lord may be with you, just as he was with my father.	13 ¡que el Señor me castigue una y otra vez! Y en caso de que mi padre quiera hacerte algún mal, te avisaré también y te dejaré partir. Así podrás irte en paz, y que el Señor esté contigo como lo estuvo con mi padre.
14 And if I live, you shall show the mercy of the Lord to me. Yet truly, if I die,	14 Si entonces vivo todavía, tú me demostrarás la fidelidad que el Señor exige. Y si estoy muerto,
15 you shall not take away your mercy from my house, even forever, when the Lord will have rooted out the enemies of David, each and every one of them, from the earth. May he take Jonathan from his house, and may the Lord require it from the hands of the enemies of David.”	15 seguirás siendo leal con mi casa para siempre, aun cuando el Señor haya extirpado de la superficie del suelo a cada uno de los enemigos de David».
16 Therefore, Jonathan formed a covenant with the house of David. And the Lord required it from the hands of the enemies of David.	16 Y Jonatán concluyó un pacto con la casa de David, en estos términos: «Que el Señor pida cuenta de esto a los enemigos de David».
17 And Jonathan continued to swear to David, because he loved him. For he loved him like his own soul.	17 Jonatán hizo prestar otra vez juramento a David, a causa del amor que le tenía, porque lo quería como a sí mismo.
18 And Jonathan said to him: “Tomorrow is the new moon, and you will be sought.	18 Jonatán dijo a David: «Mañana es la luna nueva. Se advertirá tu ausencia, porque notarán que tu puesto está vacío,
19 For your seat will be empty until the day after tomorrow. Therefore, you shall descend quickly, and you shall go to the place where you are to be hidden, on a day when it is lawful to work, and you shall remain beside the stone that is called Ezel.	19 y lo mismo sucederá pasado mañana. Por eso, desciende bien abajo, al lugar donde estuviste escondido la otra vez, y quédate junto a aquel montón de piedras.
20 And I will shoot three arrows near it, and I will cast them as if I were practicing for myself toward a mark.	20 Yo, por mi parte, lanzaré tres flechas en esa dirección,como quien tira al blanco.
21 Also, I will send a boy, saying to him, ‘Go and bring the arrows to me.’	21 Luego mandaré al servidor a buscar la flecha. Si yo le digo: «La tienes más acá, recógela», entonces ven; puedes estar tranquilo y no hay ningún inconveniente, ¡por la vida del Señor!
22 If I will say to the boy, ‘Behold, the arrows are before you, take them up,’ you shall approach before me, because there is peace for you, and there is nothing evil, as the Lord lives. But if I will have spoken to the boy in this way, ‘Behold, the arrows are away from you,’ then you shall go away in peace, for the Lord has released you.	22 Pero si yo digo al muchacho: «La tienes más allá», entonces vete, porque el Señor quiere que te vayas.
23 Now about the word that you and I have spoken, may the Lord be between you and me, even forever.”	23 En cuanto a la palabra que nos hemos dado mutuamente, el Señor está entre tú y yo para siempre».
24 Therefore, David was hidden in the field. And the new moon came, and the king sat down to eat bread.	24 David se escondió en el descampado. Al llegar la luna nueva, el rey se sentó a la mesa para comer.
25 And when the king had sat down on his chair, (according to custom) which was beside the wall, Jonathan rose up, and Abner sat beside Saul, and David’s place appeared empty.	25 Como lo hacía habitualmente, ocupó su asiento contra la pared, Jonatán se puso enfrente y Abner se sentó al lado de Saúl; pero el puesto de David quedó vacío.
26 And Saul did not say anything on that day. For he was thinking that perhaps something happened to him, so that he was not clean, or not purified.	26 Ese día Saúl no dijo nada, porque pensó: «Debe ser una casualidad; seguramente no se ha purificado y se encuentra en estado de impureza».
27 And when the second day after the new moon had begun to dawn, David’s place again appeared empty. And Saul said to Jonathan, his son, “Why has the son of Jesse not arrived to eat, neither yesterday, nor today?”	27 Pero al día siguiente de la luna nueva, el segundo día, el puesto de David aún estaba vacío. Saúl dijo a su hijo Jonatán: «¿Por qué el hijo de Jesé no ha venido al banquete ni ayer ni hoy?».
28 And Jonathan responded to Saul, “He petitioned me earnestly that he might go to Bethlehem,	28 Jonatán respondió a Saúl: «David me insistió para que lo dejara ir hasta Belén.
29 and he said: ‘Permit me. For there is a solemn sacrifice in the city. One of my brothers has summoned me. Now therefore, if I have found favor in your eyes, I will go quickly, and I will see my brothers.’ For this reason, he has not come to the table of the king.”	29 «Por favor, me dijo, déjame partir, porque se celebra el sacrificio familiar en la ciudad y mi propio hermano me ha ordenado que vaya. Ahora, si quieres hacerme un favor, iré de una escapada a ver a mis hermanos». Por eso él no ha venido a la mesa del rey».
30 Then Saul, becoming angry against Jonathan, said to him: “You son of a woman wantonly seizing a man! Could I be ignorant that you love the son of Jesse, to your own shame, and to the shame of your disgraceful mother?	30 Saúl se enfureció contra Jonatán y le dijo: «¡Hijo de una mala mujer! ¿Acaso yo no sé que tú estás de parte del hijo de Jesé, para vergüenza tuya y deshonra de tu madre?
31 For all the days that the son of Jesse moves upon earth, neither you, nor your kingdom, will be secure. And so, send and bring him to me, here and now. For he is a son of death.”	31 Porque mientras el hijo de Jesé viva sobre la tierra, no habrá seguridad ni para ti ni para tu reino. Manda ahora mismo que me lo traigan, porque merece la muerte».
32 Then Jonathan, answering his father Saul, said: “Why should he die? What has he done?”	32 Pero Jonatán replicó a su padre Saúl: «¿Por qué va a morir? ¿Qué ha hecho.
33 And Saul picked up a lance, so that he might strike him. And Jonathan understood that it had been decided by his father that David be put to death.	33 Saúl empuñó la lanza para atacarlo, y entonces Jonatán comprendió que su padre ya tenía resuelto matar a David.
34 Therefore, Jonathan rose up from the table in a rage of anger. And he did not eat bread on the second day after the new moon. For he was saddened over David, because his father had confounded him.	34 Jonatán se levantó de la mesa muy enojado, y no comió nada el segundo día de la luna nueva, porque estaba afligido a causa de David, a quien su padre había injuriado.
35 And when the morning had begun to dawn, Jonathan went into the field according to the agreement with David, and a young boy was with him.	35 A la mañana siguiente, Jonatán salió al campo en compañía de un joven servidor, según lo convenido con David,
36 And he said to his boy, “Go, and bring to me the arrows that I shoot.” And when the boy had run, he shot another arrow away from the boy.	36 y dijo a su servidor: «Corre a buscar las flechas que voy a tirar». El servidor fue corriendo, y Jonatán lanzó la flecha más allá de él.
37 And so, the boy went to the place of the arrow which Jonathan had shot. And Jonathan cried out, from behind the back of boy, and said: “Behold, the arrow is there, farther away from you.”	37 Cuando el niño llegó al lugar donde estaba la flecha que había tirado Jonatán, este gritó detrás de él: «Ahí la tienes, más allá».
38 And Jonathan cried out again, from behind the back of the boy, saying, “Go quickly! Do not stand still!” Then Jonathan’s boy collected the arrows, and he brought them to his lord.	38 Luego gritó otra vez detrás de él: «¡Rápido, apúrate, no te quedes parado!». El servidor recogió la flecha y volvió adonde estaba su señor,
39 And he did not understand at all what was happening. For only Jonathan and David knew the matter.	39 sin darse cuenta de nada; sólo Jonatán y David estaban al tanto de la cosa.
40 Then Jonathan gave his weapons to the boy, and he said to him, “Go, and carry them into the city.”	40 Luego Jonatán entregó sus armas al niño y le dijo: «Ve y lleva esto a la ciudad».
41 And when the boy had gone away, David rose up from his place, which turned toward the south, and falling prone on the ground, he reverenced three times. And kissing one another, they wept together, but David more so.	41 Cuando el servidor partió, David subió del lado del sur y se postró tres veces con el rostro en tierra. Después, uno y otro se abrazaron llorando, hasta que la pena de David creció más todavía.
42 Then Jonathan said to David: “Go in peace. And let us both keep all that we have ever sworn in the name of the Lord, saying, ‘May the Lord be between me and you, and between my offspring and your offspring, even forever.’ ”	42 Entonces Jonatán dijo a David: «Vete en paz, ya que los dos nos hemos hecho un juramento en nombre del Señor, diciendo: «Que el Señor esté entre tú y yo, entre mi descendencia y la tuya para siempre».
43 And David rose up and went away. But Jonathan entered into the city.
