1 And so all the sons of Israel went out like one man, from Dan to Beersheba, with the land of Gilead, and they gathered together, before the Lord, at Mizpah.	1 E uscirono fuori tutti i figliuoli d' Israel; e tutti insieme raunati, quasi come si fossero uno uomo, di Dan insino a Bersebee e Galaad, vènnonsene a Dio Signore in Masfa.
2 And all the chiefs of the people, and every tribe of Israel, convened as an assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand foot soldiers for battle.	2 E tutti quanti i capi con essi di Giudea per popoli, e tutte quante le schiatte de' figliuoli d' Israel nella giesa del popolo di Dio si raunarono; e furono XXXX milia di buoni combattitori.
3 (But it was not hidden from the sons of Benjamin that the sons of Israel had ascended to Mizpah.) And the Levite, the husband of the woman who was killed, being questioned as to how so great a crime had been perpetrated,	3 E non fue nascosta questa cosa ai figliuoli di Beniamin, che fossono venuti suso i figliuoli d' Israel in Masfa. E fue domandato quello marito della donna morta, il quale era della schiatta di Levi, com'era istata commessa cosa così iscelerata (e tanta offesa).
4 responded: “I went to Gibeah of Benjamin, with my wife, and I diverted to that place.	4 Il quale respuose (e disse): io venni nella città di Gabaa di Beniamin colla moglie mia; e quivi sì mi volsi istare.
5 And behold, the men of that city, at night, surrounded the house in which I was staying, intending to kill me. And they abused my wife with such an incredible fury of lust that in the end she died.	5 Ed ecco veniro gli torniarono di notte la casa uomini della città, e atdove io stava, volendo uccidere me (e la moglie mia per usare con noi); ed essendo molestati di orribile furore (e incredibile tentazione) carnale, presono la moglie mia, e tanto usarono con lei, che la stracciarono, sì che all' ultimo cadde morta.
6 And taking her up, I cut her into pieces, and I sent the parts into all the borders of your possession. For never before was such a nefarious crime, and so great a sin, committed in Israel.	6 La quale pigliando io, sì la tagliai in dodici parti, e in tutti i termini (e confini) delle vostre possessioni (e abitazioni) sì ne posi una parte; imperciò che giammai tanta follia, e così grande dispietade, non fue fatta in Israel.
7 You are all present here, O sons of Israel. Discern what you ought to do.”	7 Siete tutti quanti presenti, voi figliuoli d' Israel; giudicate (e vedete) quello che avete a fare (di questa cosa).
8 And all the people, standing, responded as if with the word of one man: “We shall not return to our own tents, nor shall anyone enter into his own house.	8 E istando tutto quanto il popolo (e tutti uniti) sì s' accordarono ad una parola, e dissono: non ci partiamo e non andiamo alle nostre case, imperciò che non sarà persona che entri (nè ritorni) a casa sua.
9 But this we shall do in common against Gibeah:	9 Ma tutti in comune facciamo questa cosa contro a Gabaa.
10 We shall select ten men out of one hundred from all the tribes of Israel, and one hundred out of one thousand, and one thousand out of ten thousand, so that they may transport supplies for the army, and so that we will be able to fight against Gibeah of Benjamin, and to repay it for its crime as it deserves.”	10 Ed eleggansi dieci uomini di cento di tutte quante le schiatte de' figlinoli d'Israel, e cento di mille, [e mille di dieci milia], acciò che insieme portino a tutto l'oste la vittuaglia, e che possiamo andare a combattere contro a Gabaa (della schiatta) di Beniamin, e rendergli (per offesa ovvero) per lo peccato quello che merita.
11 And all of Israel convened against the city, like one man, with one mind and one counsel.	11 E raunaronsi insieme tutti quanti (e vennero) alla città (di Gabaa), sì come fossono uno uomo, con una volontà e con uno consiglio.
12 And they sent messengers to the entire tribe of Benjamin, who said: “Why has so great a wickedness been found among you?	12 E mandarono i messi a tutta la schiatta (dei figliuoli) di Beniamin, i quali dicessero loro: perchè tanta follia si trova in voi? (e avete fatta cosa così iscelerata?)
13 Deliver the men of Gibeah, who have perpetrated this deplorable act, so that they may die, and so that the evil may be taken away from Israel.” And they were not willing to listen to the command of their brothers, the sons of Israel.	13 Dateci gli uomini di Gabaa, i quali commiseno questa iniquità (e questo peccato) acciò che muoiano, e traggasi questo peccato d' Israel. I quali non volsono de' fratelli loro (e de') figliuoli d'Israel udire il (consiglio loro nè il) comandamento;
14 Instead, out of all the cities that were their lot, they convened at Gibeah, so that they might bring them assistance, and so that they might contend against the entire people of Israel.	14 ma di tutte quante le cittadi, le quali erano della loro sorte (e schiatta), sì si raunarono nella città di Gabaa, acciò che desseno loro aiuto per combattere contro a tutta la università de' figliuoli d' Israel.
15 And there were found from Benjamin twenty-five thousand who drew the sword, aside from the inhabitants of Gibeah,	15 E trovaronsi in Gabaa de' figliuoli di Beniamin, e potenti a trarre fuori le spade (e le coltella da combattere), XXV milia d' uomini (da combattere) senza gli uomini di Gabaa,
16 who were seven hundred very strong men, fighting with the left hand as well as with the right hand, and casting stones from a sling so accurately that they were able to strike even a hair, and the path of the stone would by no means miss to either side.	16 i quali erano settecento uomini fortissimi, i quali combattevano così colla mano manca come colla ritta; e così gittavano a segno colle fionde, intanto che avrebbono (dato e) tratto in uno capello, e non sarebbe mai ita la pietra in niuno altro lato.
17 Then too, among the men of Israel apart from the sons of Benjamin, there were found four hundred thousand who drew the sword and who were prepared for battle.	17 Ma de' figliuoli d' Israel, e senza i figliuoli di Beniamin, furono trovati CCCC milia i quali erano (forti e) potenti a trarre fuori (le coltella e) le spade, e apparecchiati a combattere.
18 And they rose up and went to the house of God, that is, to Shiloh. And they consulted God, and they said, “Who shall be, in our army, the first to contend against the sons of Benjamin?” And the Lord responded to them, “Let Judah be your leader.”	18 I quali, levandosi suso, sì vennero nella casa di Dio, cioè in Silo; e domandarono consiglio da Dio, e dissono chi starà nell' oste nostro principe della battaglia contro ai figliuoli di Beniamin? Ai quali respuose Iddio Signore: Giuda sia il vostro duca (e guidatore).
19 And immediately the sons of Israel, rising up in the morning, made camp near Gibeah.	19 E levandosi il campo de' figliuoli d'Israel la mattina, (pose i padiglioni e) accamporonsi a lato alla città di Gabaa.
20 And setting out from there to fight against Benjamin, they began to assault the city.	20 E quindi, levandosi a combattere, cominciarono la battaglia contro alla città di Beniamin.
21 And the sons of Benjamin, departing from Gibeah, slew twenty-two thousand men from the sons of Israel, on that day.	21 E (fortemente) uscirono fuori allora di Gabaa i figliuoli di Beniamin (e diedero loro adosso), e uccisono in quello di de' figliuoli d' Israel ventidue migliaia di uomini.
22 Again the sons of Israel, trusting in both strength and number, set their troops in order, in the same place where they had contended before.	22 E ancora i figliuoli d' Israel un' altra volta si misero alla battaglia, confidandosi nel numero (e nella moltitudine della gente) e nella loro fortezza; e in quello luogo, dove in prima avevano combattuto, sì dirizzarono le schiere,
23 But first they also went up and wept before the Lord, even until night. And they consulted him and said, “Should I continue to go forth, so as to contend against the sons of Benjamin, my brothers, or not?” And he responded to them, “Ascend against them, and undertake the struggle.”	23 facendo questo in prima; andàndosene e piagnendo dinanzi da Dio Signore insino alla notte. E si presono (e domandarono) consiglio da Dio Signore, e dissono: dobbiamo noi più oltre andare contro ai figliuoli di Beniamin, o no, i quali sì sono nostri fratelli? Ai quali respuose Iddio (e disse): andate contro ai figliuoli di Beniamin, e cominciate la battaglia.
24 And when the sons of Israel had continued to do battle against the sons of Benjamin on the next day,	24 L'altro dì uscirono i figliuoli d' Israel contro i figliuoli di Beniamin [alla battaglia].
25 the sons of Benjamin burst forth from the gates of Gibeah. And meeting them, they made such a frenzied slaughter against them that they struck down eighteen thousand men who drew the sword.	25 E uscirono fuori i figliuoli di Beniamin delle porte di Gabaa; e vegnendo loro incontro (alla battaglia), tanti di loro uccisono e tagliarono, che bene XVIII migliara d' uomini da combattere si misero a terra.
26 As a result, all the sons of Israel went to the house of God, and sitting down, they wept before the Lord. And they fasted that day until evening, and they offered to him holocausts and victims of peace offerings.	26 Per la quale cosa tutti i figliuoli d' Israel vennero insieme dinanzi da Dio, e sedendo e piagnendo; e digiunarono in quello dì insino al vespro, e sì offersono gli olocausti (e i sacrifizii) e offerte di pace.
27 And they inquired about their state. At that time, the ark of the covenant of the Lord was in that place.	27 E sì domandarono (e chiesono consiglio) a Dio di loro istato (e di quello che dovessono fare). In quello tempo si era (sopra la casa di Dio) quivi l'arca (di Dio e del testamento e) del patto di Dio,
28 And Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, was the first ruler of the house. And so, they consulted the Lord, and they said, “Should we continue to go forth in battle against the sons of Benjamin, our brothers, or should we cease?” And the Lord said to them: “Ascend. For tomorrow, I will deliver them into your hands.”	28 e Finees figliuolo di Eleazaro figliuolo di Aaron sì era sopra la casa di Dio. Ed ebbono consiglio da Dio, e dissono: dobbiamo noi uscire più oltre alla battaglia contro ai figliuoli di Beniamin nostri fratelli, o riposarci? Ai quali disse Iddio: andate, imperò che domane gli darò nelle vostre mani.
29 And the sons of Israel stationed ambushes around the city of Gibeah.	29 E andarono i figliuoli d' Israel, e puosero l'agguato intorno alla città di Gabaa.
30 And they brought out their army against Benjamin a third time, just as they had done on the first and second times.	30 E la terza volta, così come la prima e la seconda, cominciarono la battaglia contro ai figliuoli di Beniamin.
31 But the sons of Benjamin again burst forth boldly from the city. And since their enemies were fleeing, they pursued them a long way, so that they might wound or kill some of them, just as they had done on the first and second days. And they turned their backs along two paths, one bringing them toward Bethel, and the other toward Gibeah. And they struck down about thirty men.	31 Ma incontanente i figliuoli di Beniamin sì si gittarono alla battaglia fuori della cittade; e fuggendo il loro avversario molto di lungi, sì lo perseguitarono, intanto che si uccisono di loro sì come avean fatto ieri e l'altro dì; e perseguitandogli per due viottole, l' una menava in Betel e l'altra in Gabaa; e uccisono da XXX [milia] uomini,
32 For they thought that they were falling back as they had done before. But instead, skillfully feigning flight, they undertook a plan to draw them away from the city, and by seeming to flee, to lead them along the above stated paths.	32 pensando, come aveano fatto innanzi, di così tagliarli e uccidere (come in prima). I quali disfingendosi a fuggire, aveano avuto il consiglio, che gli traessono fuori della cittade; e quasi fuggendo, sì gli menassono a quelle viottole dette di sopra.
33 And so all the sons of Israel, rising up from their positions, set their troops in order, in the place which is called Baaltamar. Likewise, the ambushes that encircled the city began, little by little, to reveal themselves,	33 E fuggendo tutti i figliuoli d'Israel, sì (si volsono e) ordinarono le schiere in uno luogo il quale si chiamava Baaltamar. E gli agguati, ch' erano intorno della città, a poco a poco cominciarono a [scoprire],
34 and to advance upon the western part of the city. Moreover, another ten thousand men from all of Israel were provoking a conflict with the inhabitants of the city. And the war grew heavy against the sons of Benjamin. And they did not realize that, on all sides of them, death was imminent.	34 e ad andare alla cittade di verso l'oriente. Ma tutti gli altri, ch' erano X milia uomini di tutto Israel, provocavano a. battaglia quelli che abitavano nella città (di Beniamin). E s' aggravò forte la battaglia contro ai figliuoli di Beniamin; (nè non cognoscerono) nè non s' avvidono degli agguati e del pericolo da ogni parte.
35 And the Lord struck them down in the sight of the sons of Israel, and they put to death, on that day, twenty-five thousand of them, along with one hundred men, all warriors and those who drew the sword.	35 E isconfissegli Iddio Signore e percossegli dinanzi ai figliuoli d' Israel; e uccisero di loro in quello dì (cioè de' figliuoli di Beniamin) XXV milia (di uomini) e C uomini, tutti forti a combattere e a menare le spade (e le coltella).
36 But the sons of Benjamin, when they had seen themselves to be the weaker, began to flee. And the sons of Israel discerning this, gave them room to flee, so that they might arrive at the ambushes that were prepared, which they had positioned near the city.	36 E veggendo i figliuoli di Beniamin, che cominciavano ad andare al di sotto, si fuggirono. La quale cosa vedendo i figliuoli d' Israel, diedero loro luogo a fuggire, acciò che venissono agli agguati. ch' erano posti intorno intorno alla cittade.
37 And after they had risen up suddenly from hiding, and those of Benjamin had turned their backs to those who cut them down, they entered the city, and they struck it with the edge of the sword.	37 I quali uscendo repentemente degli agguati, e quegli di Beniamin dando le spalle, sì entrarono nella cittade (costoro ch' erano in agguato), e sì la misono tutta alle punta delle coltella (i maschii e le femine, e' piccoli e' grandi).
38 Now the sons of Israel had given a sign to those whom they had stationed in ambushes, so that, after they had seized the city, they would light a fire, and by the smoke ascending on high, they would show that the city was captured.	38 E aveano dato i figliuoli d' Israel il segno a coloro che aveano posto nello agguato, che poi che avessono presa la cittade, si v'accendessono il fuoco, acciò che, salendo in alto il fumo, mostrasse come la città era presa.
39 And then, the sons of Israel discerned this sign during the battle (for the sons of Benjamin had thought that they fled, and they pursued them forcefully, cutting down thirty men from their army).	39 La quale [cosa] veggendo i figliuoli d' Israel, ch' erano occupati nella battaglia, (fortemente cominciarono a contrastare e a combattere); imperciò che pensavano i figliuoli di Beniamin, che fuggissono (come erano usati), perchè aveano morti dell' oste loro XXX uomini;
40 And they saw something like a pillar of smoke ascending from the city. Likewise, Benjamin, looking back, discerned that the city was captured, for the flames were being carried on high.	40 e vedendo quasi come una colonna (quelli dell' oste d' Israel) somigliante a uno grande fumo levare in alto; e volgendosi adietro Beniamin, e vedendo presa la cittade, e la grande fiamma andare in alto;
41 And those who before had pretended to flee, turning their faces, withstood them more strongly. And when the sons of Benjamin had seen this, they turned their backs in flight,	41 coloro che s'erano finti di fuggire, a faccia a faccia loro fortemente contrastavano. Là quale cosa veggendo i figliuoli di Beniamin, si voltarono a fuggire
42 and they began to go toward the way of the desert, with the adversary pursuing them to that place also. Moreover, those who had set fire to the city also met them.	42 per la via del deserto, perseguitandogli ancora colà i loro avversarii (e nemici). E ancora coloro che aveano messo fuoco nella cittade, sì vennero loro incontro.
43 And so it happened that they were cut down on both sides by the enemies, nor was there any respite for the dying. They were killed and struck down on the eastern side of the city of Gibeah.	43 E così intervenne, che d'ogni parte furono tagliati e morti da' loro nemici, e non era riposo niuno di coloro ch' erano morti (che punto non si riposavano). E caderono morti e prostrati (e gittati a terra e tagliati) dalla parte dell' oriente verso la cittade di Gabaa.
44 Now those who were put to death in the same place were eighteen thousand men, all very robust fighters.	44 E furono coloro, che in quello luogo medesimo furono morti, XVIII milia uomini, tutti quanti fortissimi combattitori.
45 And when those who remained of Benjamin had seen this, they fled into the wilderness. And they were traveling toward the rock which is called Rimmon. In that flight also, among those who were scattering in different directions, they slew five thousand men. And though they scattered all the more, they continued to pursue them, and then they put to death another two thousand.	45 La quale cosa vedendo coloro ch' erano rimasi di Beniamin, sì fuggirono ne' luoghi solitarii del deserto; e andàvansene alla pietra, il cui nome si era Remmon. E (in quella pietra fuggiti si nascosono: e) fuggendo in diversi luoghi, sì ne furono morti (de' nemici) V milia. E fuggendo ancora più oltre, sì gli perseguitarono, e uccisono degli altri II milia.
46 And so it happened that all of those who were slain from Benjamin, in various places, were twenty-five thousand fighters, very willing to go to war.	46 E così intervenne che tutti quelli, che furono morti de' figliuoli di Beniamin in diversi luoghi, fossono XXV milia d' uomini combattitori e potentissimi (e ancora) ad ogni battaglia.
47 And so there remained from the entire number of Benjamin six hundred men who were able to escape and to flee into the wilderness. And they settled at the rock of Rimmon, for four months.	47 E rimase di tutto quanto il numero de' figliuoli di Beniamin secento uomini, i quali scamparono e fuggirono nella solitudine del deserto; e stettero nella pietra di Remmon quattro mesi.
48 But the sons of Israel, returning, had struck with the sword all that remained in the city, from men even to cattle. And all the cities and villages of Benjamin were consumed with devouring flames.	48 E tornati i figliuoli d' Israel, tutte le cose le quali erano rimase nella cittade, dagli uomini insino alle (femine e) pecore e ogni bestiame, miseno alle coltella; e tutte le (altre) cittadi (e le loro ville) e casali di Beniamin, sì consumò la fiamma e il fuoco.
