2 Timothy 2

1 And as for you, my son, be strengthened by the grace which is in Christ Jesus,	1 E tu, figlio mio, attingi forza dalla grazia che è in Cristo Gesù:
2 and by the things which you have heard from me through many witnesses. These things encourage faithful men, who shall then be suitable to teach others also.	2 le cose che hai udito da me davanti a molti testimoni, trasmettile a persone fidate, le quali a loro volta siano in grado di insegnare agli altri.
3 Labor like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.	3 Come un buon soldato di Gesù Cristo, soffri insieme con me.
4 No man, acting as a soldier for God, entangles himself in worldly matters, so that he may be pleasing to him for whom he has proven himself.	4 Nessuno, quando presta servizio militare, si lascia prendere dalle faccende della vita comune, se vuol piacere a colui che lo ha arruolato.
5 Then, too, whoever strives in a competition is not crowned, unless he has competed lawfully.	5 Anche l’atleta non riceve il premio se non ha lottato secondo le regole.
6 The farmer who labors ought to be the first to share in the produce.	6 Il contadino, che lavora duramente, dev’essere il primo a raccogliere i frutti della terra.
7 Understand what I am saying. For the Lord will give you understanding in all things.	7 Cerca di capire quello che dico, e il Signore ti aiuterà a comprendere ogni cosa.
8 Be mindful that the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the offspring of David, has risen again from the dead, according to my Gospel.	8 Ricòrdati di Gesù Cristo, risorto dai morti, discendente di Davide, come io annuncio nel mio Vangelo,
9 I labor in this Gospel, even while chained like an evildoer. But the Word of God is not bound.	9 per il quale soffro fino a portare le catene come un malfattore. Ma la parola di Dio non è incatenata!
10 I endure all things for this reason: for the sake of the elect, so that they, too, may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus, with heavenly glory.	10 Perciò io sopporto ogni cosa per quelli che Dio ha scelto, perché anch’essi raggiungano la salvezza che è in Cristo Gesù, insieme alla gloria eterna.
11 It is a faithful saying: that if we have died with him, we will also live with him.	11 Questa parola è degna di fede: Se moriamo con lui, con lui anche vivremo;
12 If we suffer, we will also reign with him. If we deny him, he will also deny us.	12 se perseveriamo, con lui anche regneremo; se lo rinneghiamo, lui pure ci rinnegherà;
13 If we are unfaithful, he remains faithful: he is not able to deny himself.	13 se siamo infedeli, lui rimane fedele, perché non può rinnegare se stesso.
14 Insist on these things, testifying before the Lord. Do not be contentious about words, for this is useful for nothing but the subversion of listeners.	14 Richiama alla memoria queste cose, scongiurando davanti a Dio che si evitino le vane discussioni, le quali non giovano a nulla se non alla rovina di chi le ascolta.
15 Be solicitous in the task of presenting yourself before God as a proven and unashamed worker who has handled the Word of Truth correctly.	15 Sfòrzati di presentarti a Dio come una persona degna, un lavoratore che non deve vergognarsi e che dispensa rettamente la parola della verità.
16 But avoid profane or empty talk. For these things advance one greatly in impiety.	16 Evita le chiacchiere vuote e perverse, perché spingono sempre più all’empietà quelli che le fanno;
17 And their word spreads like a cancer: among these are Hymenaeus and Philetus,	17 la parola di costoro infatti si propagherà come una cancrena. Fra questi vi sono Imeneo e Filèto,
18 who have fallen away from the truth by saying that the resurrection is already complete. And so they have subverted the faith of certain persons.	18 i quali hanno deviato dalla verità, sostenendo che la risurrezione è già avvenuta e così sconvolgono la fede di alcuni.
19 But the firm foundation of God remains standing, having this seal: the Lord knows those who are his own, and all who know the name of the Lord depart from iniquity.	19 Tuttavia le solide fondamenta gettate da Dio resistono e portano questo sigillo: Il Signore conosce quelli che sono suoi, e ancora: Si allontani dall’iniquità chiunque invoca il nome del Signore.
20 But, in a large house, there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also those of wood and of clay; and certainly some are held in honor, but others in dishonor.	20 In una casa grande però non vi sono soltanto vasi d’oro e d’argento, ma anche di legno e di argilla; alcuni per usi nobili, altri per usi spregevoli.
21 If anyone, then, will have cleansed himself from these things, he shall be a vessel held in honor, sanctified and useful to the Lord, prepared for every good work.	21 Chi si manterrà puro da queste cose, sarà come un vaso nobile, santificato, utile al padrone di casa, pronto per ogni opera buona.
22 So then, flee from the desires of your youth, yet truly, pursue justice, faith, hope, charity, and peace, along with those who call upon the Lord from a pure heart.	22 Sta’ lontano dalle passioni della gioventù; cerca la giustizia, la fede, la carità, la pace, insieme a quelli che invocano il Signore con cuore puro.
23 But avoid foolish and undisciplined questions, for you know that these produce strife.	23 Evita inoltre le discussioni sciocche e da ignoranti, sapendo che provocano litigi.
24 For the servant of the Lord must not be contentious, but instead he must be meek toward everyone, teachable, patient,	24 Un servo del Signore non deve essere litigioso, ma mite con tutti, capace di insegnare, paziente,
25 correcting with self-restraint those who resist the truth. For at any time God may give them repentance, so as to recognize the truth,	25 dolce nel rimproverare quelli che gli si mettono contro, nella speranza che Dio conceda loro di convertirsi, perché riconoscano la verità
26 and then they may recover from the snares of the devil, by whom they are held captive at his will.	26 e rientrino in se stessi, liberandosi dal laccio del diavolo, che li tiene prigionieri perché facciano la sua volontà.
