Stand firm, and do not be willing to be again held by the yoke of servitude.1 Christ set us free, so that we should remain free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be fastenedagain to the yoke of slavery.
Behold, I, Paul, say to you, that if you have been circumcised, Christ will be of no benefit to you.2 I, Paul, give you my word that if you accept circumcision, Christ wil be of no benefit to you at al .
For I again testify, about every man circumcising himself, that he is obligated to act according to the entire law.3 I give my assurance once again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is under obligation tokeep the whole Law;
You are being emptied of Christ, you who are being justified by the law. You have fallen from grace.4 once you seek to be reckoned as upright through the Law, then you have separated yourself fromChrist, you have fal en away from grace.
For in spirit, by faith, we await the hope of justice.5 We are led by the Spirit to wait in the confident hope of saving justice through faith,
For in Christ Jesus, neither circumcision nor uncircumcision prevails over anything, but only faith which works through charity.6 since in Christ Jesus it is not being circumcised or being uncircumcised that can effect anything -- onlyfaith working through love.
You have run well. So what has impeded you, that you would not obey the truth?7 You began your race wel ; who came to obstruct you and stop you obeying the truth?
This kind of influence is not from him who is calling you.8 It was certainly not any prompting from him who called you!
A little leaven corrupts the whole mass.9 A pinch of yeast ferments the whole batch.
I have confidence in you, in the Lord, that you will accept nothing of the kind. However, he who disturbs you shall bear the judgment, whomever he may be.10 But I feel sure that, united in the Lord, you wil not be led astray, and that anyone who makes troublewith you will be condemned, no matter who he is.
And as for me, brothers, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still suffering persecution? For then the scandal of the Cross would be made empty.11 And I, brothers -- if I were stil preaching circumcision, why should I still be persecuted? For then theobstacle which is the cross would have no point any more.
And I wish that those who disturb you would be torn away.12 I could wish that those who are unsettling you would go further and mutilate themselves.
For you, brothers, have been called to liberty. Only you must not make liberty into an occasion for the flesh, but instead, serve one another through the charity of the Spirit.13 After al , brothers, you were called to be free; do not use your freedom as an opening for self-indulgence, but be servants to one another in love,
For the entire law is fulfilled by one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”14 since the whole of the Law is summarised in the one commandment: You must love your neighbour asyourself.
But if you bite and devour one another, be careful that you are not consumed by one another!15 If you go snapping at one another and tearing one another to pieces, take care: you will be eaten up byone another.
So then, I say: Walk in the spirit, and you will not fulfill the desires of the flesh.16 Instead, I tel you, be guided by the Spirit, and you wil no longer yield to self-indulgence.
For the flesh desires against the spirit, and the spirit against the flesh. And since these are against one another, you may not do whatever you want.17 The desires of self-indulgence are always in opposition to the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are inopposition to self-indulgence: they are opposites, one against the other; that is how you are prevented fromdoing the things that you want to.
But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.18 But when you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.
Now the works of the flesh are manifest; they are: fornication, lust, homosexuality, self-indulgence,19 When self-indulgence is at work the results are obvious: sexual vice, impurity, and sensuality,
the serving of idols, drug use, hostility, contentiousness, jealousy, wrath, quarrels, dissensions, divisions,20 the worship of false gods and sorcery; antagonisms and rivalry, jealousy, bad temper and quarrels, disagreements,
envy, murder, inebriation, carousing, and similar things. About these things, I continue to preach to you, as I have preached to you: that those who act in this way shall not obtain the kingdom of God.21 factions and malice, drunkenness, orgies and al such things. And about these, I tel you now as I havetold you in the past, that people who behave in these ways wil not inherit the kingdom of God.
But the fruit of the Spirit is charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, forbearance,22 On the other hand the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, trustfulness,
meekness, faith, modesty, abstinence, chastity. There is no law against such things.23 gentleness and self-control; no law can touch such things as these.
For those who are Christ’s have crucified their flesh, along with its vices and desires.24 All who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified self with al its passions and its desires.
If we live by the Spirit, we should also walk by the Spirit.25 Since we are living by the Spirit, let our behaviour be guided by the Spirit
Let us not become desirous of empty glory, provoking one another, envying one another.26 and let us not be conceited or provocative and envious of one another.
