1 Corinthians 10

1 For I do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and they all went across the sea.	1 Car je ne veux pas que vous l'ignoriez, frères: nos pères ont tous été sous la nuée, tous ontpassé à travers la mer,
2 And in Moses, they all were baptized, in the cloud and in the sea.	2 tous ont été baptisés en Moïse dans la nuée et dans la mer,
3 And they all ate of the same spiritual food.	3 tous ont mangé le même aliment spirituel
4 And they all drank of the same spiritual drink. And so, they all were drinking of the spiritual rock seeking to obtain them; and that rock was Christ.	4 et tous ont bu le même breuvage spirituel - ils buvaient en effet à un rocher spirituel qui lesaccompagnait, et ce rocher, c'était le Christ.
5 But with most of them, God was not well-pleased. For they were struck down in the desert.	5 Cependant, ce n'est pas le plus grand nombre d'entre eux qui plut à Dieu, puisque leurs corpsjonchèrent le désert.
6 Now these things were done as an example for us, so that we might not desire evil things, just as they desired.	6 Ces faits se sont produits pour nous servir d'exemples, pour que nous n'ayons pas deconvoitises mauvaises, comme ils en eurent eux-mêmes.
7 And so, do not take part in idolatry, as some of them did, just as it was written: “The people sat down to eat and to drink, and then they rose up to amuse themselves.”	7 Ne devenez pas idolâtres comme certains d'entre eux, dont il est écrit: Le peuple s'assit pourmanger et boire, puis ils se levèrent pour s'amuser.
8 And let us not commit fornication, as some of them fornicated, and so twenty-three thousand fell on one day.	8 Et ne forniquons pas, comme le firent certains d'entre eux; et il en tomba 23.000 en un seuljour.
9 And let us not tempt Christ, as some of them tempted, and so they perished by serpents.	9 Ne tentons pas non plus le Seigneur, comme le firent certains d'entre eux; et ils périrent parles serpents.
10 And you should not murmur, as some of them murmured, and so they perished by the destroyer.	10 Et ne murmurez pas, comme le firent certains d'entre eux; et ils périrent par l'Exterminateur.
11 Now all of these things happened to them as an example, and so they have been written for our correction, because the final age has fallen upon us.	11 Cela leur arrivait pour servir d'exemple, et a été écrit pour notre instruction à nous quitouchons à la fin des temps.
12 And so, whosoever considers himself to be standing, let him be careful not to fall.	12 Ainsi donc, que celui qui se flatte d'être debout prenne garde de tomber.
13 Temptation should not take hold of you, except what is human. For God is faithful, and he will not permit you to be tempted beyond your ability. Instead, he will effect his Providence, even during temptation, so that you may be able to bear it.	13 Aucune tentation ne vous est survenue, qui passât la mesure humaine. Dieu est fidèle; il nepermettra pas que vous soyez tentés au-delà de vos forces; mais avec la tentation, il vous donnera le moyen d'ensortir et la force de la supporter.
14 Because of this, most beloved of mine, flee from the worship of idols.	14 C'est pourquoi, mes bien-aimés, fuyez l'idolâtrie.
15 Since I am speaking to those who are prudent, judge what I say for yourselves.	15 Je vous parle comme à des gens sensés; jugez vous-mêmes de ce que je dis.
16 The cup of benediction that we bless, is it not a communion in the Blood of Christ? And the bread that we break, is it not a participation in the Body of the Lord?	16 La coupe de bénédiction que nous bénissons, n'est-elle pas communion au sang du Christ?Le pain que nous rompons, n'est-il pas communion au corps du Christ?
17 Through the one bread, we, though many, are one body: all of us who are partakers of the one bread.	17 Parce qu'il n'y a qu'un pain, à plusieurs nous ne sommes qu'un corps, car tous nousparticipons à ce pain unique.
18 Consider Israel, according to the flesh. Are not those who eat from the sacrifices partakers of the altar?	18 Considérez l'Israël selon la chair. Ceux qui mangent les victimes ne sont-ils pas encommunion avec l'autel?
19 What is next? Should I say that what is immolated to idols is anything? Or that the idol is anything?	19 Qu'est-ce à dire? Que la viande immolée aux idoles soit quelque chose? Ou que l'idole soitquelque chose?...
20 But the things that the Gentiles immolate, they immolate to demons, and not to God. And I do not want you to become partakers with demons.	20 Mais ce qu'on immole, c'est à des démons et à ce qui n'est pas Dieu qu'on l'immole. Or, jene veux pas que vous entriez en communion avec les démons.
21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of demons. You cannot be partakers of the table of the Lord, and partakers of the table of demons.	21 Vous ne pouvez boire la coupe du Seigneur et la coupe des démons; vous ne pouvezparticiper à la table du Seigneur et à la table des démons.
22 Or should we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he is? All is lawful to me, but not all is expedient.	22 Ou bien voudrions-nous provoquer la jalousie du Seigneur? Serions-nous plus forts que lui?
23 All is lawful to me, but not all is edifying.	23 "Tout est permis"; mais tout n'est pas profitable. "Tout est permis"; mais tout n'édifie pas.
24 Let no one seek for himself, but for others.	24 Que personne ne cherche son propre intérêt, mais celui d'autrui.
25 Whatever is sold in the market, you may eat, without asking questions for the sake of conscience.	25 Tout ce qui se vend au marché, mangez-le sans poser de question par motif de conscience;
26 “The earth and all its fullness belong to the Lord.”	26 car la terre est au Seigneur, et tout ce qui la remplit.
27 If you are invited by any unbelievers, and you are willing to go, you may eat whatever is set before you, without asking questions for the sake of conscience.	27 Si quelque infidèle vous invite et que vous acceptiez d'y aller, mangez tout ce qu'on voussert, sans poser de question par motif de conscience.
28 But if anyone says, “This has been sacrificed to idols,” do not eat it, for the sake of the one who told you, and for the sake of conscience.	28 Mais si quelqu'un vous dit: "Ceci a été immolé en sacrifice", n'en mangez pas, à cause decelui qui vous a prévenus, et par motif de conscience.
29 But I am referring to the conscience of the other person, not to yours. For why should my liberty be judged by the conscience of another?	29 Par conscience j'entends non la vôtre, mais celle d'autrui; car pourquoi ma liberté relèverait-elle du jugement d'une conscience étrangère?
30 If I partake with thanksgiving, why should I be slandered over that for which I give thanks?	30 Si je prends quelque chose en rendant grâce, pourquoi serais-je blâmé pour ce dont je rendsgrâce?
31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever else you may do, do everything for the glory of God.	31 Soit donc que vous mangiez, soit que vous buviez, et quoi que vous fassiez, faites tout pourla gloire de Dieu.
32 Be without offense toward the Jews, and toward the Gentiles, and toward the Church of God,	32 Ne donnez scandale ni aux Juifs, ni aux Grecs, ni à l'Eglise de Dieu,
33 just as I also, in all things, please everyone, not seeking what is best for myself, but what is best for many others, so that they may be saved.	33 tout comme moi je m'efforce de plaire en tout à tous, ne recherchant pas mon propre intérêt,mais celui du plus grand nombre, afin qu'ils soient sauvés.
