Jeremiah 17

1 “The sin of Judah has been written with a pen of iron and a point of diamond. It has been engraved upon the breadth of their heart and upon the horns of their shrines.	1 Le péché de Juda est écrit avec un poinçon de fer, une pointe de diamant; il est gravé sur la tablette de leur cœur et sur les cornes de leurs autels.
2 And their sons make a remembrance of their shrines, and their sacred groves, and their leafy trees on high mountains,	2 Leurs autels et leurs pieux sacrés le rappellent, sous les arbres verts des hautes collines,
3 by sacrificing in the field. And so, I will give over your strength and all your treasures to be despoiled, along with your exalted places of sin, within all your borders.	3 et des buttes dans la plaine. Je vais effacer ton péché sur tout ton territoire: je distribuerai ta richesse et tous tes trésors.
4 And you will be left behind without your inheritance, which I gave to you. And I will cause you to serve your enemies in a land that you do not know. For you have kindled a fire in my fury; it shall burn, even unto eternity.”	4 Tu devras céder l’héritage que je t’avais donné, je ferai de toi l’esclave de tes ennemis dans un pays que tu ne connais pas, car vous avez allumé le feu de ma colère et il ne s’arrêtera pas de brûler.
5 Thus says the Lord: “Cursed is a man who trusts in man, and who establishes what is flesh as his right arm, and whose heart withdraws from the Lord.	5 Voici ce que dit Yahvé: Maudit soit l’homme qui met sa confiance dans un humain, qui fait d’un mortel son recours, et qui détourne son cœur de Yahvé.
6 For he will be like a saltcedar tree in the desert. And he will not perceive it, when what is good has arrived. Instead, he will live in dryness, in a desert, in a land of salt, which is uninhabitable.	6 Il sera comme le chardon dans la Steppe: il s’est fixé dans des lieux arides, dans les terres de sel où nul n’habite; il ne verra jamais arriver le bonheur.
7 Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, for the Lord will be his confidence.	7 Béni soit l’homme qui met sa confiance en Yahvé, et dont Yahvé est le recours.
8 And he will be like a tree planted beside waters, which sends out its roots to moist soil. And it will not fear when the heat arrives. And its leaves will be green. And in the time of drought, it will not be anxious, nor will it cease at any time to bear fruit.	8 Il est comme l’arbre planté au bord des eaux, qui allonge ses racines vers le ruisseau. Il ne craint pas lorsque vient la chaleur, son feuillage reste vert. Il ne craint pas les années sèches et porte toujours du fruit.
9 The heart is depraved above all things, and it is unsearchable, who can know it?	9 Plus que tout le cœur est complexe, il est mauvais: qui peut le comprendre?
10 I am the Lord, who examines the heart and tests the temperament, who gives to each one according to his way and according to the fruit of his own decisions.	10 Moi, Yahvé, je sonde les cœurs, je mets à jour le fond du désir: je rends à chacun selon sa conduite, et je lui donne le fruit de ses actes.
11 A partridge has hatched eggs that she did not lay; a man has gathered riches, but without judgment. In the midst of his days, he will leave it all behind, and he will be foolish concerning his very end.”	11 Celui qui amasse des richesses injustes est comme la perdrix couvant l’œuf qu’elle n’a pas pondu; au milieu de ses jours la richesse l’abandonne, et à la fin il n’est qu’un sot.
12 “A high and glorious throne is the place of our sanctification from the beginning.	12 Notre Sanctuaire est un trône élevé, glorieux;
13 O Lord, Hope of Israel: all who forsake you will be confounded. Those who withdraw from you will be written into the earth. For they have abandoned the Lord, the Source of living waters.	13 Yahvé, tu es l’espoir d’Israël, quiconque t’abandonne sera confondu. Ceux qui se rebellent contre toi disparaîtront du pays, car ils ont abandonné la source d’eau vive.
14 Heal me, O Lord, and I will be healed. Save me, and I will be saved. For you are my praise.	14 Guéris-moi, Yahvé, que je sois guéri, sauve-moi, que je sois sauvé: c’est vers toi toujours qu’est allée ma louange.
15 Behold, they themselves are saying to me: ‘Where is the word of the Lord? Let it come.’	15 Voici qu’on me dit: “Encore une parole de Yahvé? Qu’elle se réalise donc!”
16 But I am not troubled; I am following you as my shepherd. And I have not desired the day of man, as you know. That which has gone forth from my lips has been right in your sight.	16 Mais je ne te presse pas de faire venir le mal, je n’ai pas désiré les jours mauvais, tu le sais, tout ce que j’ai pu dire est clair pour toi.
17 May you not be a dread to me. You are my hope in the day of affliction.	17 Ne me fais pas tomber dans l’épouvante, toi, mon refuge au jour du malheur.
18 May those who persecute me be confounded, but may I not be confounded. May they be fearful, and may I not be fearful. Lead over them the day of affliction, and crush them with a double destruction.”	18 Que ceux qui me persécutent soient confondus, et que moi, je ne sois pas confondu! Qu’ils soient effrayés, et que moi je ne sois pas effrayé. Fais venir sur eux le jour du malheur, frappe-les, oui, frappe-les bien!
19 Thus says the Lord to me: “Go, and stand at the gate of the sons of the people, through which the kings of Judah enter and depart, and at all the gates of Jerusalem.	19 Une parole de Yahvé me fut adressée: Va et tiens-toi à la Porte-des-Fils-du-Peuple, par laquelle les rois de Juda entrent et sortent. Tu iras aussi aux autres portes de Jérusalem
20 And you shall say to them: Listen to the word of the Lord, O kings of Judah, and all of Judah, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, who enter through these gates.”	20 et tu leur diras ceci: Écoutez la parole de Yahvé, rois de Juda, et vous tous gens de Juda qui habitez Jérusalem et qui passez par ces portes!
21 Thus says the Lord: “Guard your souls, and do not choose to carry heavy things on the day of the Sabbath, nor should you carry these things through the gates of Jerusalem.	21 Voici ce que Yahvé a dit: Ne faites pas votre malheur, ne transportez pas de fardeaux le jour du sabbat, ne les faites pas entrer par les portes de Jérusalem.
22 And do not be willing to cast burdens out of your houses on the day of the Sabbath, nor should you do any work. Sanctify the day of the Sabbath, just as I instructed your fathers.	22 Ne sortez pas de vos maisons avec un fardeau le jour du sabbat, ne faites aucun travail. Sanctifiez le jour du sabbat comme je l’ai commandé à vos pères.
23 But they did not listen, nor did they incline their ear. Instead, they hardened their neck, lest they listen to me and receive discipline.	23 Eux n’ont pas écouté, ils n’en ont pas tenu compte, mais ils ont fait la forte tête; ils n’ont pas entendu et n’ont pas accepté mes avertissements.
24 And this shall be: If you listen to me, says the Lord, so that you do not carry in burdens through the gates of this city on the day of the Sabbath, and if you sanctify the day of the Sabbath, so that you do not do work in it,	24 Mais si vous m’écoutez - parole de Yahvé - si vous ne faites entrer aucun fardeau par les portes de cette ville le jour du sabbat, si vous sanctifiez le jour du sabbat en ne faisant aucun travail,
25 then there will enter through the gates of this city: kings and princes, sitting on the throne of David, and riding on chariots and horses, they and their princes, the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem. And this city will be inhabited forever.	25 alors les portes de cette ville continueront de voir passer des rois successeurs de David. Ils entreront avec leurs chars et leurs chevaux, eux et leurs princes, tout comme les gens de Juda et les habitants de Jérusalem, et cette ville sera toujours habitée.
26 And they will arrive from the cities of Judah and from all around Jerusalem, and from the land of Benjamin, and from the plains, and from the mountainous regions, and from the south, carrying holocausts, and victims, and sacrifices, and frankincense. And they will carry an oblation into the house of the Lord.	26 On viendra des villes de Juda et des environs de Jérusalem, du pays de Benjamin et du Bas-Pays, de la montagne et du Négueb, pour offrir des holocaustes et des sacrifices, pour présenter des offrandes et de l’encens, pour offrir des actions de grâce dans le Temple de Yahvé.
27 But if you will not listen to me, to sanctify the day of the Sabbath, and not to carry burdens, and not to bring these things through the gates of Jerusalem on the day of the Sabbath, then I will kindle a fire at its gates, and it will devour the houses of Jerusalem, and it will not be extinguished.”	27 Mais si vous ne m’écoutez pas, si vous ne sanctifiez pas le jour du sabbat, si vous portez des fardeaux et que vous passez avec par les portes de Jérusalem le jour du sabbat, alors je mettrai le feu à ces portes, il dévorera les palais de Jérusalem et ne s’éteindra plus.
