1 The burden of the desert of the sea. Just as the whirlwinds approach from Africa, it approaches from the desert, from a terrible land.	1 Oracolo sul deserto del mare. Come i turbini che si scatenano nel Negheb, così egli viene dal deserto, da una terra orribile.
2 A difficult vision has been announced to me: he who is unbelieving, he acts unfaithfully, and he who is a plunderer, he devastates. Ascend, O Elam! Lay siege, O Media! I have caused all its mourning to cease.	2 Una visione tremenda mi fu mostrata: il saccheggiatore che saccheggia, il distruttore che distrugge. Salite, o Elamiti, assediate, o Medi! Io faccio cessare ogni gemito.
3 Because of this, my lower back has been filled with pain, and anguish has possessed me, like the anguish of a woman in labor. I fell down when I heard it. I was disturbed when I saw it.	3 Per questo i miei reni sono nello spasimo, mi hanno colto dolori come di una partoriente; sono troppo sconvolto per udire, troppo sbigottito per vedere.
4 My heart withered. The darkness stupefied me. Babylon, my beloved, has become a wonder to me.	4 Smarrito è il mio cuore, la costernazione mi invade; il tramonto tanto desiderato diventa il mio terrore.
5 Prepare the table. Contemplate, from a place of observation, those who eat and drink. Rise up, you leaders! Take up the shield!	5 Si prepara la tavola, si stende la tovaglia, si mangia, si beve. Alzatevi, o capi, ungete gli scudi,
6 For the Lord has said this to me: “Go and station a watchman. And let him announce whatever he will see.”	6 poiché così mi ha detto il Signore: «Va’, metti una sentinella che annunci quanto vede.
7 And he saw a chariot with two horsemen, and a rider on an donkey, and a rider on a camel. And he considered them diligently, with an intense gaze.	7 E se vedrà cavalleria, coppie di cavalieri, uomini che cavalcano asini, uomini che cavalcano cammelli, allora osservi attentamente, con grande attenzione».
8 And a lion cried out: “I am on the watchtower of the Lord, standing continually by day. And I am at my station, standing throughout the night.	8 La vedetta ha gridato: «Al posto di osservazione, Signore, io sto sempre lungo il giorno, e nel mio osservatorio sto in piedi, tutte le notti.
9 Behold, a certain man approaches, a man riding on a two-horse chariot.” And he responded, and he said: “Fallen, fallen is Babylon! And all its graven gods have been crushed into the earth!	9 Ecco, qui arriva una schiera di cavalieri, coppie di cavalieri. Essi esclamano e dicono: “È caduta, è caduta Babilonia! Tutte le statue dei suoi dèi sono a terra, in frantumi”».
10 O my threshed grain! O sons of my threshing floor! What I have heard from the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, I have announced to you.”	10 O popolo mio, calpestato e trebbiato come su un’aia, quanto ho udito dal Signore degli eserciti, Dio d’Israele, a voi l’ho annunciato.
11 The burden of Dumah, cried out to me from Seir: “Watchman, how goes the night? Watchman, how goes the night?”	11 Oracolo su Duma. Mi gridano da Seir: «Sentinella, quanto resta della notte? Sentinella, quanto resta della notte?».
12 The watchman said: “Morning approaches with the night. If you are seeking: seek, and convert, and approach.”	12 La sentinella risponde: «Viene il mattino, poi anche la notte; se volete domandare, domandate, convertitevi, venite!».
13 The burden in Arabia. In the forest you shall sleep, in the evening on the paths of Dedanim.	13 Oracolo nella steppa. Nella boscaglia, nella steppa, passate la notte, carovane di Dedan;
14 You who inhabit the land of the south: upon meeting the thirsty, bring water; meet the fugitive with bread.	14 andando incontro agli assetati, portate acqua. Abitanti della terra di Tema, presentatevi ai fuggiaschi con pane per loro.
15 For they are fleeing before the face of swords, before the face of a sword hanging over them, before the face of a bent bow, before the face of a grievous battle.	15 Perché essi fuggono di fronte alle spade, di fronte alla spada affilata, di fronte all’arco teso, di fronte al furore della battaglia.
16 For the Lord said this to me: “After one more year, just like one year for a hired hand, all the glory of Kedar will be taken away.	16 Poiché mi ha detto il Signore: «Ancora un anno, contato alla maniera degli anni di un salariato, e scomparirà tutta la potenza gloriosa di Kedar.
17 And the remainder of the multitude of strong archers from the sons of Kedar will be few, for the Lord, the God of Israel, has spoken it.”	17 E il numero degli archi dei prodi di Kedar resterà molto esiguo, perché il Signore Dio d’Israele ha parlato».
