Wisdom 4

1 O how beautiful is the chaste fruit of purity! For its remembrance is immortal, because it is observed both with God and with men.	1 Come è bella la generazione casta con chiaritade! però che la sua memoria sì è immortale; per che ella sì è manifestata appo Dio e appo li uomini.
2 When it is present, they imitate it, and they desire it when it has withdrawn itself, and it triumphs crowned forever, winning the reward of undefiled conflicts.	2 Quando la castità è presente, li uomini la persèguitano; e desideranla quando ella si dilunga; e in perpetuo corona?a trionfa, vincendo il merito delle battaglie di quelli che non sono contaminati (nè sozzi).
3 But the great number of the many different kinds of the impious will not be to their advantage, and spurious seedlings will not be given deep roots, nor will they establish any firm foundation.	3 Ma la moltitudine variata (si è di molte generazioni) de' malvagi non fia utile; e li piantoni adulterini non fanno radici alte, nè averanno stabile firmamento.
4 And if they spring forth with branches for a time, yet, being set infirmly, they will be shaken by the wind, and, by the superabundance of the winds, they will be eradicated.	4 .
5 For the incomplete branches will be broken, and their fruits will be useless, and bitter to eat, and fit for nothing.	5 Fieno spezzati li rami non compiuti, e li loro frutti fieno disutili, e acerbi a mangiare; e a nulla fieno acconci.
6 For all the sons born from iniquity are witnesses of wickedness against their parents at their interrogation.	6 Però che tutti li figliuoli che nascono de' malvagi, sì sono testimonii di malignitade contro alli padri loro, quando sono esaminati.
7 But the just, if death seizes him beforehand, will be refreshed.	7 Ma il giusto, s'egli fia occupato dalla morte, sarae in refrigerio.
8 For old age is made venerable, neither by lasting long, nor by counting the number of years; yet understanding is the gray hair of wisdom for men,	8 La vecchiezza è da onorare, non computata per longhezza di tempo, nè per numero d' anni; canuti sono li sensi dell' uomo,
9 and an immaculate life is a generation of sages.	9 e la etade della vecchiezza fia la vita immaculata.
10 Pleasing to God, having been made beloved, and living among sinners, he was transformed.	10 Colui che piace a Dio, è fatto diletto; e vivendo egli tra li peccatori è translatato.
11 He was quickly taken away, for malice could not alter his understanding, nor could deceit beguile his soul.	11 Egli è rapito acciò che la malizia non mutasse lo intendimento suo, ovvero che loro figmenti non ingannassero l'anima sua.
12 For fascination with entertainment obscures good things, and the unfaithfulness of desire subverts the mind without malice.	12 Però che lo ammaliamento delle beffe e delle derisioni oscura li beni, e la mobilitade della concupiscenza travolge il senno che è sanza malizia.
13 Completed in a short time, he fulfilled many times.	13 Colui che è pervenuto al fine in breve compiè molti tempi.
14 Truly his soul was pleasing to God. Because of this, he hastened to bring him out of the midst of iniquities, but the people see this and do not understand, nor do they place such things in their hearts:	14 Però che l'anima sua era piaciuta a Dio; per questo affrettò (Iddio) di trarlo di mezzo le iniquitadi. Li popoli che veggiono e non intendono, che non pongono nelli loro cuori cotali cose;
15 that the grace and mercy of God is with his holy ones, and he watches over his elect.	15 però che la grazia di Dio e la misericordia sua si è nelli santi suoi, e riguardamento nelli eletti suoi.
16 But the just dead will condemn the impious living, and youth hastily completed results in a long unjust life.	16 Il giusto morto condanna li vivi rei, e la gioventù inanzi tempo consumata condanna la disensata vecchiezza (de' quali dissi sopra).
17 For they will see the end of the wise, and will neither understand, nor imagine, that he is of God, and that therefore the Lord has safeguarded him.	17 (Quelli popoli) vederanno la morte del savio, e non conosceranno quello che Iddio pensoe (fare) di colui, e per che Iddio l' amoe.
18 For they will see and despise him, but the Lord will ridicule them.	18 Elli lo vedranno, e dispregeranno; ma Iddio si farà beffe di coloro.
19 And after this, they will fall without honor and with contempt among the dead forever. Seeing that they are puffed up and speechless, he will shatter them and will shake them from the foundations all the way to the top, to their utter desolation, and they will grieve and their remembrance will perish.	19 E saranno dopo queste cose caggenti sanza onore, e saranno in vituperio e in abominazione tra li morti in perpetuo; però che Iddio fiaccherae coloro enfiati sanza parole, e moveralli dalli fondamenti, e fieno desolati infino alla parte di sopra; e saranno piagnenti, e la memoria loro perirae.
20 They will hurry with fear at the understanding of their sins, and their iniquities will bear witness against them.	20 Li timidi verranno ne' pensieri de' suoi peccati; e le loro iniquitadi li meneranno a contrario.
