Unto the end. In verses, the understanding of David, | 1 [For the choirmaster In sickness Poem Of David] The fool has said in his heart, 'There is no God!'They are corrupt, vile and unjust, not one of them does right. |
when the Ziphites had arrived and they said to Saul, “Has not David been hidden with us?” | 2 God looks down from heaven at the children of Adam, to see if a single one is wise, a single oneseeks God. |
Save me, O God, by your name, and judge me in your virtue. | 3 Al have proved faithless, al alike turned sour, not one of them does right, not a single one. |
O God, listen to my prayer. Pay attention to the words of my mouth. | 4 Are they not aware, these evil-doers? They are devouring my people; this is the bread they eat, andthey never call upon God. |
For strangers have risen up against me, and the strong have sought my soul. And they have not set God before their eyes. | 5 They wil be gripped with fear, just where there is no need for fear, for God scatters the bones of himwho besieges you; they are mocked because God rejects them. |
For behold, God is my helper, and the Lord is the protector of my soul. | 6 Who wil bring from Zion salvation for Israel? When God brings his people home, what joy for Jacob, what happiness for Israel! |
Turn back the evils upon my adversaries, and ruin them by your truth.
I will freely sacrifice to you, and I will confess your name, O God, because it is good.
For you have quickly rescued me from all tribulation, and my eye has looked down upon my enemies. |
