CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINGREEK BIBLE
Do you know at what time the wild goats have given birth among the rocks, or do you observe the deer when they go into labor?1 Γνωριζεις τον καιρον του τοκετου των αγριων αιγων του βραχου; δυνασαι να σημειωσης ποτε γεννωσιν αι ελαφοι;
Have you numbered the months since their conception, and do you know at what time they gave birth?2 Δυνασαι να αριθμησης τους μηνας τους οποιους πληρουσιν; η γνωριζεις τον καιρον του τοκετου αυτων;
They bend themselves for their offspring, and they give birth, and they emit roars.3 Αυται συγκαμπτονται, γεννωσι τα παιδια αυτων, ελευθερονονται απο των ωδινων αυτων.
Their young are weaned and go out to feed; they depart and do not return to them.4 Τα τεκνα αυτων ενδυναμουνται, αυξανουσιν εν τη πεδιαδι? εξερχονται και δεν επιστρεφουσι πλεον εις αυτας.
Who has set the wild ass free, and who has released his bonds?5 Τις εξαπεστειλεν ελευθερον τον αγριον ονον; η τις ελυσε τους δεσμους αυτου;
I have given a house in solitude to him, and his tabernacle is in the salted land.6 του οποιου οικιαν εκαμον την ερημον, και την αλμυριδα κατοικιαν αυτου.
He despises the crowded city; he does not pay attention to the bellow of the tax collector.7 Καταγελα του θορυβου της πολεως? δεν ακουει την κραυγην του εργοδιωκτου.
He looks around the mountains of his pasture, and he searches everywhere for green plants.8 Κατασκοπευει τα ορη δια βοσκην αυτου, και υπαγει ζητων κατοπιν παντος ειδους χλοης.
Will the rhinoceros be willing to serve you, and will he remain in your stall?9 Θελει ευχαριστηθη ο μονοκερως να σε δουλευη, η θελει διανυκτερευσει εν τη φατνη σου;
Can you detain the rhinoceros with your harness to plough for you, and will he loosen the soil of the furrows behind you?10 Δυνασαι να δεσης τον μονοκερων με τον δεσμον αυτου προς αροτριασιν; η θελει ομαλιζει τας πεδιαδας οπισω σου;
Will you put your faith in his great strength, and delegate your labors to him?11 Θελεις βαλει το θαρρος σου εις αυτον, διοτι η δυναμις αυτου ειναι μεγαλη; η θελεις αφησει την εργασιαν σου επ' αυτον;
Will you trust him to return to you the seed, and to gather it on your drying floor?12 Θελεις εμπιστευθη εις αυτον να σοι φερη τον σπορον σου και να συναξη αυτον εν τω αλωνιω σου;
The wing of the ostrich is like the wings of the heron, and of the hawk.13 Εδωκας συ τας ωραιας πτερυγας εις τους ταωνας; η πτερυγας και πτερα εις την στρουθοκαμηλον;
When she leaves eggs behind in the earth, will you perhaps warm them in the dust?14 ητις αφινει τα ωα αυτης εις την γην και θαλπει αυτα επι του χωματος,
She forgets that feet may trample them, or that the beasts of the field may shatter them.15 και λησμονει οτι ο πους ενδεχεται να συντριψη αυτα, η το θηριον του αγρου να καταπατηση αυτα?
She is hardened against her young, as if they were not hers; she has labored in vain, with no fear compelling her.16 σκληρυνεται κατα των τεκνων αυτης, ως να μη ησαν αυτης? ματαιως εκοπιασε, μη φοβουμενη?
For God has deprived her of wisdom; neither has he given her understanding.17 διοτι ο Θεος εστερησεν αυτην απο σοφιας και δεν εμοιρασεν εις αυτην συνεσιν?
Yet, when the time is right, she raises her wings on high; she ridicules the horse and his rider.18 οσακις σηκονεται ορθιος, καταγελα του ιππου και του αναβατου αυτου.
Will you supply strength to the horse, or envelope his throat with neighing?19 Συ εδωκας δυναμιν εις τον ιππον; περιενεδυσας τον τραχηλον αυτου με βροντην;
Will you alarm him as the locusts do? His panic is revealed by the display of his nostrils.20 συ καμνεις αυτον να πηδα ως ακρις; το γαυριαμα των μυκτηρων αυτου ειναι τρομερον?
He digs at the earth with his hoof; he jumps around boldly; he advances to meet armed men.21 ανασκαπτει εν τη κοιλαδι και αγαλλεται εις την δυναμιν αυτου? εξερχεται εις απαντησιν των οπλων?
He despises fear; he does not turn away from the sword.22 καταγελα του φοβου και δεν τρομαζει? ουδε στρεφει απο προσωπου ρομφαιας?
Above him, the quiver rattles, the spear and the shield shake.23 η φαρετρα κροταλιζει κατ' αυτου, η εξαστραπτουσα λογχη και το δορυ.
Seething and raging, he drinks up the earth; neither does he pause when the blast of the trumpet sounds.24 Καταπινει την γην εν αγριοτητι και μανια? και δεν πιστευει οτι ηχει σαλπιγξ?
When he hears the bugle, he says, “Ha!” He smells the battle from a distance, the exhortation of the officers, and the battle cry of the soldiers.25 αμα δε τη φωνη της σαλπιγγος, λεγει, Α, α και μακροθεν οσφραινεται την μαχην, την κραυγην των στρατηγων και τον αλαλαγμον.
Does the hawk grow feathers by means of your wisdom, spreading her wings towards the south?26 Δια της σοφιας σου πετα ο ιεραξ και απλονει τας πτερυγας αυτου προς νοτον;
Will the eagle lift herself up at your command and make her nest in steep places?27 Εις την προσταγην σου ανυψουται ο αετος και καμνει την φωλεαν αυτου εν τοις υψηλοις;
She dwells among the rocks, and she lingers among broken boulders and inaccessible cliffs.28 Κατοικει επι βραχου και διατριβει, επι αποτομου βραχου και επι αβατων τοπων?
From there, she looks for food, and her eyes catch sight of it from far away.29 εκειθεν αναζητει τροφην? οι οφθαλμοι αυτου σκοπευουσι μακροθεν?
Her young will drink blood, and wherever the carcass will be, she is there immediately.30 και οι νεοσσοι αυτου αιμα πινουσι? και οπου πτωματα, εκει και αυτος.
And the Lord continued, and he said to Job:
Will he who contends with God be so easily silenced? Certainly, he who argues with God must also respond to him.
Then Job answered the Lord, saying:
What could I possibly answer, since I have been speaking thoughtlessly? I will place my hand over my mouth.
One thing I have spoken, which I wish I had not said; and another, to which I will add no more.
