Nehemiah 13

1 Now on that day, they read from the book of Moses in the hearing of the people. And in it, there was found written that the Ammonites and the Moabites must not enter the church of God, even for all time,	1 Zu jener Zeit las man dem Volk aus dem Buch des Mose vor; da fand man die Stelle, an der steht: Ammoniter und Moabiter dürfen niemals in die Gemeinde Gottes eintreten;
2 because they did not meet the sons of Israel with bread and water, and they hired Balaam against them, to curse them. But our God turned the curse into a blessing.	2 denn sie sind den Israeliten einst nicht mit Brot und Wasser entgegengekommen. Moab hat gegen sie Bileam gedungen, der sie verfluchen sollte. Doch unser Gott verwandelte den Fluch in einen Segen.
3 Now it happened that, when they had heard the law, they separated every foreigner from Israel.	3 Als man dieses Gesetz gehört hatte, sonderte man aus Israel alle Mischvölker aus.
4 And Eliashib, the priest, was over this task; he had been given charge of the treasury of the house of our God, and he was a close relative of Tobiah.	4 Früher hatte der Priester Eljaschib die Kammern des Hauses unseres Gottes betreut; er war verwandt mit Tobija
5 Then he made for himself a large storeroom, and in that place, there was laid before him gifts, and frankincense, and vessels, and the tithes of grain, wine, and oil, the portions of the Levites, and of the singing men, and of the gatekeepers, and the first-fruits of the priests.	5 und hatte darum für ihn eine große Kammer einrichten lassen. Dort bewahrte man früher das Opfermehl und den Weihrauch auf sowie die Behälter und den Zehnten von Getreide, Wein und Öl, der den Leviten, Sängern und Torwächtern gesetzlich zukam, außerdem die Abgaben für die Priester.
6 But during all this, I was not in Jerusalem, because in the thirty-second year of Artaxerxes, the king of Babylon, I went to the king, and at the end of some days, I petitioned the king.	6 Bei all dem war ich aber nicht in Jerusalem gewesen; denn im zweiunddreißigsten Jahr des Artaxerxes, des Königs von Babel, war ich zum König gereist. Nach einiger Zeit erbat ich aber vom König (die Erlaubnis zur Abreise)
7 And I went to Jerusalem, and I understood the evil that Eliashib had done for Tobiah, such that he would make him a storeroom in the vestibules of the house of God.	7 und kam wieder nach Jerusalem. Nun bemerkte ich die Untat, die Eljaschib zugunsten Tobijas begangen hatte, indem er ihm in den Vorhöfen des Hauses Gottes eine Kammer eingerichtet hatte.
8 And it seemed to me very evil. And I cast the vessels of the house of Tobiah outside of the storeroom.	8 Das missfiel mir sehr und ich warf den ganzen Hausrat Tobijas aus der Kammer hinaus.
9 And I gave instructions, and they cleansed again the storeroom. And I brought back, into that place, the vessels of the house of God, the sacrifice, and the frankincense.	9 Dann ließ ich die Kammer reinigen und brachte die Behälter des Hauses Gottes, das Opfermehl und den Weihrauch wieder dorthin.
10 And I realized that the portions of the Levites had not been given to them, and that each one had fled into his own region, from the Levites, and from the singing men, and from those who were ministering.	10 Ich erfuhr auch, dass die Anteile der Leviten nicht abgeliefert wurden; darum waren die Leviten und die Sänger, die den Dienst zu versehen hatten, weggegangen, jeder auf seinen Landbesitz.
11 And I brought the case before the magistrates, and I said, “Why have we forsaken the house of God?” And I gathered them together, and I caused them to stand at their stations.	11 Da machte ich den Beamten Vorwürfe und sagte: Warum wird das Haus Gottes vernachlässigt? Und ich holte die Leviten wieder zusammen und stellte sie auf ihren Posten.
12 And all of Judah brought the tithes of the grain, and the wine, and the oil into the storehouses.	12 Nun brachte ganz Juda wieder den Zehnten von Getreide, Wein und Öl zu den Vorratskammern.
13 And we appointed over the storehouses, Shelemiah, the priest, and Zadok, the scribe, and Pedaiah from the Levites, and next to them Hanan, the son of Zaccur, the son of Mattaniah. For they had proven to be faithful. And so the portions of their brothers were entrusted to them.	13 Zur Aufsicht über die Vorratskammern bestimmte ich den Priester Schelemja, den Schreiber Zadok und den Leviten Pedaja. Ihnen stellte ich Hanan, den Sohn Sakkurs, des Sohnes Mattanjas, an die Seite, denn sie galten als zuverlässig. Ihnen oblag es nun, den Zehnten an ihre Brüder zu verteilen.
14 Remember me, O my God, because of this, and may you not wipe away my acts of compassion, which I have done for the house of my God and for his ceremonies.	14 Denk dafür an mich, mein Gott, und lösch die guten Taten nicht aus, die ich für das Haus meines Gottes und seine Ordnung vollbracht habe.
15 In those days, I saw, in Judah, some who were treading the presses on the Sabbath, and who were carrying sheaves, and placing on donkeys burdens of wine, and of grapes, and of figs, and all manner of burdens, and who were bringing these into Jerusalem on the day of the Sabbath. And I contended with them, so that they would sell on a day when it was permitted to sell.	15 Damals sah ich in Juda Leute, die am Sabbat die Kelter traten. Andere brachten Getreide ein und luden es auf Esel; auch Wein, Trauben, Feigen und Lasten aller Art brachten sie am Sabbattag nach Jerusalem. Ich verwarnte sie, weil sie an diesem Tag Lebensmittel verkauften.
16 And some Tyrians dwelt within, who were bringing fish and all kinds of items for sale. And they were selling on the Sabbaths to the sons of Judah in Jerusalem.	16 Die Leute von Tyrus, die in Juda wohnten, brachten Fische und allerlei Waren und verkauften sie am Sabbat an die Juden, sogar in Jerusalem.
17 And I put the nobles of Judah under oath, and I said to them: “What is this evil thing that you are doing, profaning the Sabbath day?	17 Da machte ich den Vornehmen von Juda Vorwürfe und sagte zu ihnen: Wie könnt ihr eine solche Untat begehen und den Sabbat entweihen?
18 Did not our fathers do these things, and so our God brought all this evil upon us and upon this city? And you are adding more wrath upon Israel by violating the Sabbath!”	18 Haben das nicht schon eure Väter getan? Dafür ließ unser Gott all dieses Unheil über uns und diese Stadt kommen. Wollt ihr neuen Zorn über Israel bringen, indem ihr den Sabbat entweiht?
19 And it happened that, when the gates of Jerusalem had rested on the day of the Sabbath, I spoke, and they closed the gates. And I instructed that they should not open them until after the Sabbath. And I appointed some of my servants over the gates, so that no one would carry in a burden on the day of the Sabbath.	19 Ich ließ von da an vor dem Anbruch des Sabbats, wenn es in den Toren Jerusalems dunkel wurde, die Tore schließen und befahl, sie erst nach dem Sabbat wieder zu öffnen. Auch stellte ich einige meiner Leute an die Tore, damit am Sabbattag keine Lasten hereingebracht wurden.
20 And so the merchants and those who sold all kinds of items remained just outside of Jerusalem, once and again.	20 Einmal und ein zweites Mal übernachteten die Händler und die Verkäufer von allerlei Waren draußen vor Jerusalem.
21 And I contended with them, and I said to them: “Why are you remaining just beyond the wall? If you do this again, I will send hands upon you.” And so, from that time, they no longer came on the Sabbath.	21 Da warnte ich sie und sagte zu ihnen: Wozu übernachtet ihr gerade vor der Mauer? Wenn ihr es noch einmal tut, lasse ich euch festnehmen. Von da an kamen sie nicht mehr am Sabbat.
22 I also spoke to the Levites, so that they would be cleansed, and would arrive to guard the gates and to sanctify the day of the Sabbath. Because of this also, O my God, remember me and spare me, in accord with the multitude of your mercies.	22 Den Leviten aber befahl ich, sie sollten sich reinigen und sich als Wächter an die Tore stellen, damit man den Sabbattag heilig halte. Auch dafür denk an mich, mein Gott, und sei mir gnädig in deiner großen Huld!
23 But also in those days, I saw some Jews taking wives from the Ashdodites, and the Ammonites, and the Moabites.	23 Damals sah ich auch Juden, die Frauen von Aschdod, Ammon und Moab geheiratet hatten.
24 And their sons spoke partly in the speech of Ashdod, and they did not know how to speak the Jewish language, and they were speaking according to the language of one people or another.	24 Die Hälfte ihrer Kinder redete in der Sprache von Aschdod oder in der Sprache eines der anderen Völker, konnten aber nicht mehr Jüdisch.
25 And I put them under oath, and I cursed them. And I struck some of their men, and I shaved off their hair, and I made them swear to God that they would not give their daughters to their sons, nor take their daughters for their sons, nor for themselves, saying:	25 Ich machte ihnen Vorwürfe und verfluchte sie. Einige von ihnen schlug ich und packte sie bei den Haaren. Ich beschwor sie bei Gott: Ihr dürft eure Töchter nicht ihren Söhnen geben noch ihre Töchter zu Frauen für eure Söhne oder für euch selbst nehmen.
26 “Did not Solomon, king of Israel, sin in this kind of thing? And certainly, among many nations, there was no king similar to him, and he was beloved of his God, and God set him as king over all of Israel. And yet foreign women led even him into sin!	26 Hat sich nicht wegen solcher Frauen Salomo, der König Israels, versündigt? Unter den vielen Völkern gab es keinen König wie ihn. Er wurde von seinem Gott geliebt; darum hatte ihn Gott zum König über ganz Israel gemacht. Aber selbst ihn haben die fremden Frauen zur Sünde verführt.
27 So how could we disobey and do all this great evil, so that we would transgress against our God, and take foreign wives?”	27 Und jetzt hört man von euch, dass ihr genau dieselbe Untat begeht und unserem Gott die Treue brecht, indem ihr fremde Frauen heiratet.
28 Now one of the sons of Joiada, the son of Eliashib, the high priest, was a son-in-law to Sanballat, a Horonite, and I made him flee from me.	28 Einer der Söhne des Hohenpriesters Jojada, des Sohnes Eljaschibs, war der Schwiegersohn des Sanballat von Horon; ihn verwies ich aus meinem Gebiet.
29 O Lord, my God, remember against those who defile the priesthood and the law of the priests and the Levites!	29 Vergiss es ihnen nicht, mein Gott, dass sie das Priestertum und den Bund der Priester und Leviten befleckt haben.
30 And so I cleansed them from all foreigners, and I established the orders of the priests and the Levites, each one in his ministry.	30 So habe ich das Volk von allem gereinigt, was fremd war. Für die Priester und Leviten habe ich Ordnungen aufgestellt, die jedem seinen Dienst zuteilen.
31 O my God, remember me also, for good, because of the offering of wood, at the appointed times, and because of the first-fruits. Amen.	31 Auch habe ich angeordnet, wie man an den festgesetzten Zeiten das Brennholz liefern und die ersten Erträge bringen soll. Denk daran, mein Gott, und halt es mir zugute!
