Ezra 9

1 Then, after these things were completed, the leaders came to me, saying: “The people of Israel, the priests, and the Levites, have not been separated from the peoples of the lands and from their abominations, especially those of the Canaanites, and Hittites, and Perizzites, and Jebusites, and Ammonites, and Moabites, and Egyptians, and Amorites.	1 E poi che queste cose furono fornite, vennero a me i principi, dicendo: il popolo d' Israel e' sacerdoti e' Leviti non sono partiti da' popoli delle terre e dalle loro abominazioni, cioè del Cananeo, dello Eteo e del Ferezeo, del Iebuseo, degli Ammoniti e de' Moabiti e degli Egizii e degli Amorrei.
2 For they have taken from their daughters for themselves and for their sons, and they have mixed a holy lineage with the peoples of the lands. And even the hand of the leaders and the magistrates has been first in this transgression.”	2 Però che loro hanno tolto delle loro figliuole a sè e alli suoi figliuoli, e hanno mescolato il seme santo co' popoli delle terre; e la mano de' prìncipi e del senato fu in questa prima prevaricazione.
3 And when I had heard this word, I tore my cloak and my tunic, and I pulled out the hairs of my head and beard, and I sat in mourning.	3 E udito io questo sermone, isquarciai il mio mantello e la tunica, e cava'mi i capelli del mio capo e della barba; e sedei, e cominciai a piagnere.
4 Then all those who feared the word of the God of Israel gathered to me, because of the transgression of those who had arrived from the captivity. And I sat in sorrow, until the evening sacrifice.	4 E raunorsi a me tutti coloro che temeano la parola di Dio d' Israel, per la (loro) trasgressione di quelli ch' erano venuti della prigione; e io sedea tristo insino al sacrificio del vespro.
5 And at the evening sacrifice, I rose up from my affliction, and, having torn my cloak and my tunic, I fell to my knees, and I reached out my hands to the Lord, my God.	5 E nel sacrificio del vespro mi levai della mia afflizione, e isquarciato il mantello e la gonnella, chinai le ginocchia mie, e sparsi le mie mani al mio Signore Iddio.
6 And I said: “My God, I am confounded and ashamed to lift up my face to you. For our iniquities have been multiplied over our heads, and our offenses have increased, even up to heaven,	6 E dissi: Signore mio, io mi confondo e mi vergogno di levare il viso a te; però che le nostre. iniquitadi sono moltiplicate sopra il nostro capo, e i nostri peccati sono cresciuti insino al cielo,
7 from the days of our fathers. But also, we ourselves have sinned gravely, even to this day. And for our iniquities, we ourselves, and our kings and our priests, have been delivered into the hands of the kings of the lands, and to the sword, and to captivity, and to plunder, and to confusion of face, just as it is also in this day.	7 dal tempo de' nostri padri; e anco noi stessi abbiamo peccato gravemente insino al dì d' oggi, e nelle nostre iniquità e noi e i nostri re e' sacerdoti nostri siamo dati in mano delli re delle terre, in coltello e in prigione e in rapina e in confusione di viso, sì come in questo dì.
8 And now, to a small extent and for a moment, our petition has been made with the Lord our God, so that they may leave us a remnant, and so that a secure place in his holy land may be given to us, and so that our God may illuminate our eyes, and may give us a little life in our servitude.	8 E ora quasi uno poco e in momento è fatto il nostro pregare al nostro Signore Iddio, acciò che a noi fossero lasciate [le] reliquie, e fosse data la sua pace nel suo santo luogo, e che illuminasse gli occhii nostri il nostro Dio, e che desse a noi uno poco di vita nella nostra servitù;
9 For we are servants, yet in our servitude our God has not forsaken us, but he has inclined mercy upon us in the sight of the king of the Persians, so that he may give us life, and may raise up the house of our God, and repair its desolations, and give us a hedge in Judah and Jerusalem.	9 però che noi siamo servi, e nella nostra servitù non ci ha lasciato il nostro Iddio, e inchinò sopra di noi la sua misericordia nel cospetto del re de' Persi, acciò che ci desse vita, e facesse alta la casa del nostro Iddio, e rifacesse le sue solitudini, e desse a noi speranza in Giuda e in Ierusalem.
10 And now, our God, what should we say after these things? For we abandoned your commandments,	10 E ora, Signore nostro Iddio, che diremo noi dopo questo? Perchè noi abbiamo lasciato i tuoi comandamenti,
11 which you instructed by the hand of your servants, the prophets, saying: ‘The land, which you shall enter so that you may possess it, is an unclean land, due to the uncleanness of the peoples and of the other lands, the abominations of those who have filled it, from mouth to mouth, with their filth.’	11 i quali tu comandasti a noi per mano dei tuoi servi profeti, dicendo: la terra la quale voi entrate a possedere, è terra immonda, secondo la immondizia de' popoli e di tutte le altre terre, delle abominazioni di coloro i quali la riempierono dalla bocca insino alla bocca nella sua coinquinazione.
12 Now therefore, you should not give your daughters to their sons, nor should you receive their daughters for your sons. And you should not seek their peace, nor their prosperity, even forever. So shall you be strengthened, and so shall you eat the good things of the land, and have your sons as your heirs, even for all time.	12 Onde ora non date le vostre figliuole a' loro figliuoli; e le loro figliuole non tollete per li vostri figliuoli, e non domandate la loro pace, nè la loro prosperità, insino in sempiterno, acciò che voi siate confortati e mangiate le buone cose della terra, e che voi abbiate eredi i vostri figliuoli insino in eterno.
13 And after all that has happened to us because of our very wicked works and our great offense, you, our God, have freed us from our iniquity, and you have given us salvation, just as it is this day,	13 E dopo tutte le cose che vennero sopra di noi nelle nostre pessime operazioni, e nel nostro grande peccato, però che tu, Iddio, ci liberasti dalla nostra iniquità, e haici data la salute, siccome oggi,
14 so that we would not turn away and make your commandments void, and so that we would not unite in marriage with the peoples of these abominations. Could you be angry with us even to the very end, so that you would not to leave us a remnant to be saved?	14 che noi non ritornassimo, e prevaricassimo tutti i tuoi comandamenti, e che non cognungessimo matrimonii de'. popoli di queste abominazioni. Or sei tu irato contro a noi insino a consumazione, sì che tu non ci lasci reliquie e salute?
15 O Lord, the God of Israel, you are just. For we have been left behind to be saved, just as it is this day. Behold, we are before your sight in our offense. And it is not possible to withstand you in this matter.”	15 Signore Iddio d' Israel, tu se' giusto; perchè noi siamo lasciati, i quali ci dobbiamo salvare, come in questo dì. Ecco noi siamo dinanzi a te nel peccato nostro; però che non si puote stare dinanzi a te sopra di questo.
