1 Josiah was eight years old when he had begun to reign, and he reigned for thirty-one years in Jerusalem.	1 Quando Giosia divenne re, aveva otto anni; regnò trentun anni in Gerusalemme.
2 And he did what was right in the sight of the Lord, and he walked in the ways of his father David. He did not turn away, neither to the right, nor to the left.	2 Egli fece ciò che è retto agli occhi del Signore e seguì le strade di Davide suo antenato, senza fuorviare in nulla.
3 Now in the eighth year of his reign, when he was still a boy, he began to seek the God of his father David. And in the twelfth year after he had begun to reign, he cleansed Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the sacred groves, and the idols, and the graven images.	3 Nell'anno ottavo del suo regno, era ancora un ragazzo, cominciò a ricercare il Dio di Davide suo padre. Nell'anno decimosecondo cominciò a purificare Giuda e Gerusalemme, eliminando le alture, i pali sacri e gli idoli scolpiti o fusi.
4 And in his sight, they destroyed the altars of the Baals, and they demolished the idols which had been set upon them. And then he cut down the sacred groves and crushed the graven images. And he scattered the fragments upon the tombs of those who had been accustomed to immolate to them.	4 Sotto i suoi occhi furono demoliti gli altari di Baal; infranse gli altari per l'incenso, che vi erano sopra; distrusse i pali sacri e gli idoli scolpiti o fusi, riducendoli in polvere che sparse sui sepolcri di coloro che avevano sacrificato a tali cose.
5 And after that, he burned the bones of the priests upon the altars of the idols. And so did he cleanse Judah and Jerusalem.	5 Le ossa dei sacerdoti le bruciò sui loro altari; così purificò Giuda e Gerusalemme.
6 Then too, in the cities of Manasseh, and of Ephraim, and of Simeon, even to Naphtali, he overturned everything.	6 Lo stesso fece nella città di Manàsse, di Efraim e di Simeone fino a Nèftali, nei loro villaggi devastati.
7 And when he had destroyed the altars and the sacred groves, and had broken the idols to pieces, and when all the profane shrines had been demolished from the entire land of Israel, he returned to Jerusalem.	7 Demolì gli altari; fece a pezzi i pali sacri e gli idoli in modo da ridurli in polvere; demolì tutti gli altari per l'incenso in tutto il paese di Israele; poi fece ritorno a Gerusalemme.
8 And so, in the eighteenth year of his reign, having now cleansed the land and the temple of the Lord, he sent Shaphan, the son of Azaliah, and Maaseiah, the ruler of the city, and Joah, the son of Joahaz, the historian, to repair the house of the Lord his God.	8 Nell'anno decimottavo del suo regno, dopo aver purificato il paese e il tempio, affidò a Safàn figlio di Asalia, a Maaseia governatore della città, e a Ioach figlio di Ioacaz, archivista, il restauro del tempio del Signore suo Dio.
9 And they went to Hilkiah, the high priest. And having accepted from him the money which had been brought into the house of the Lord, and which the Levites and porters had gathered together from Manasseh, and Ephraim, and the entire remnant of Israel, and also from all of Judah, and Benjamin, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem,	9 Costoro si presentarono al sommo sacerdote Chelkia e gli consegnarono il denaro depositato nel tempio; l'avevano raccolto i leviti custodi della soglia da Manàsse, da Èfraim e da tutto il resto di Israele, da tutto Giuda, da Beniamino e dagli abitanti di Gerusalemme.
10 they delivered it into the hands of those who were in charge of the workers in the house of the Lord, so that they might repair the temple, and restore whatever was weak.	10 Lo misero in mano ai direttori dei lavori che sovraintendevano al tempio ed essi l'utilizzarono per gli operai che lavoravano nel tempio per restaurarlo e rafforzarlo.
11 And they gave it to the artisans and the stoneworkers, so that they might buy stones from the quarries, and wood for the joints of the building and for the upper floors the houses, which the kings of Judah had destroyed.	11 Lo diedero ai falegnami e ai muratori per l'acquisto di pietre da taglio e di legname per l'armatura e la travatura dei locali lasciati rovinare dai re di Giuda.
12 And they did everything faithfully. Now the overseers of the workers were Jahath and Obadiah, from the sons of Merari, and Zechariah and Meshullam, from the sons of Kohath, who were supervising the work. All were Levites who knew how to play musical instruments.	12 Quegli uomini lavoravano con fedeltà; erano stati loro preposti per la direzione Iacat e Abdia, leviti dei figli di Merari, Zaccaria e Mesullàm, Keatiti. 13 Truly, scribes and teachers, from among the Levites who were porters, were over those who were carrying burdens for various uses.	13 sorvegliavano i portatori e dirigevano quanti compivano lavori di qualsiasi genere; altri leviti erano scribi, ispettori e portieri.
14 And when they carried out the money that had been brought into the temple of the Lord, Hilkiah the priest found the book of the law of the Lord by the hand of Moses.	14 Mentre si prelevava il denaro depositato nel tempio, il sacerdote Chelkia trovò il libro della legge del Signore, data per mezzo di Mosè.
15 And he said to Shaphan, the scribe: “I have found the book of the law in the house of the Lord.” And he delivered it to him.	15 Chelkia prese la parola e disse allo scriba Safàn: "Ho trovato nel tempio il libro della legge". Chelkia diede il libro a Safàn.
16 Then he took the volume to the king, and he reported to him, saying: “Behold, everything that you entrusted to your servants is completed.	16 Safàn portò il libro dal re; egli inoltre riferì al re: "Quanto è stato ordinato, i tuoi servitori lo eseguiscono.
17 They have melted together the silver that was found in the house of the Lord. And it has been given to the overseers of the artisans and craftsmen for various works.	17 Hanno versato il denaro trovato nel tempio e l'hanno consegnato ai sorveglianti e ai direttori dei lavori".
18 After this, Hilkiah the priest gave to me this book.” And when he had read it in the presence of the king,	18 Poi lo scriba Safàn annunziò al re: "Il sacerdote Chelkia mi ha dato un libro". Safàn ne lesse una parte alla presenza del re.
19 and he had heard the words of the law, he tore his garments.	19 Udite le parole della legge, il re si strappò le vesti
20 And he instructed Hilkiah, and Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, and Abdon, the son of Micah, and also Shaphan, the scribe, and Asaiah, the servant of the king, saying:	20 e comandò a Chelkia, ad Achikam figlio di Safàn, ad Abdon figlio di Mica, allo scriba Safàn e ad Asaia ministro del re:
21 “Go, and pray to the Lord for me, and for the remnant of Israel and Judah, concerning all the words of this book, which has been found. For the great fury of the Lord has rained down upon us, because our fathers did not keep the words of the Lord, to do all that has been written in this volume.”	21 "Andate, consultate il Signore per me e per quanti sono rimasti in Israele e in Giuda riguardo alle parole di questo libro ora trovato; grande infatti è la collera del Signore, che si è accesa contro di noi, poiché i nostri padri non hanno ascoltato le parole del Signore facendo quanto sta scritto in questo libro".
22 Therefore, Hilkiah, and those who had been sent with him by the king, went to Huldah, the prophetess, the wife of Shallum, the son of Tokhath, the son of Hasrah, the keeper of the vestments. She was living in Jerusalem, in the second part. And they spoke to her the words which we explained above.	22 Chelkia insieme con coloro che il re aveva designati si recò dalla profetessa Culda moglie di Sallùm, figlio di Tokat, figlio di Casra, il guardarobiere; essa abitava nel secondo quartiere di Gerusalemme. Le parlarono in tal senso
23 And she responded to them: “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Tell the man who sent you to me:	23 ed essa rispose loro: "Dice il Signore Dio di Israele: Riferite all'uomo che vi ha inviati da me:
24 Thus says the Lord: Behold, I will lead in evils over this place, and over its inhabitants, with all the curses that have been written in this book, which they have read before the king of Judah.	24 Dice il Signore: Ecco, io farò piombare una sciagura su questo luogo e sui suoi abitanti, tutte le maledizioni scritte nel libro letto davanti al re di Giuda,
25 For they have abandoned me, and they have sacrificed to foreign gods, so that they provoked me to wrath by all the works of their hands. Therefore, my fury will rain down upon this place, and it will not be extinguished.	25 perché hanno abbandonato me e hanno bruciato incenso ad altri dèi provocandomi a sdegno con tutte le opere delle loro mani. La mia collera si accenderà contro questo luogo e non si potrà spegnere.
26 To the king of Judah, who sent you to petition before the Lord, so shall you speak: Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Since you listened to the words of this volume,	26 Al re di Giuda, che vi ha inviati a consultare il Signore, riferirete: Dice il Signore, Dio di Israele: A proposito delle parole che hai udito,
27 and your heart was softened, and you humbled yourself in the sight of God concerning these things which have been said against this place and against the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and since, revering my face, you have torn your garments, and have wept before me: I also have heeded you, says the Lord.	27 poiché il tuo cuore si è intenerito e ti sei umiliato davanti a Dio, udendo le mie parole contro questo luogo e contro i suoi abitanti; poiché ti sei umiliato davanti a me, ti sei strappate le vesti e hai pianto davanti a me, anch'io ho ascoltato. Oracolo del Signore!
28 For now I will gather you to your fathers, and you will be brought into your sepulcher in peace. Neither shall your eyes see all the evil that I will lead in, over this place and over its inhabitants.” And so they took back to the king all that she had said.	28 Ecco, io ti riunirò con i tuoi padri e sarai deposto nel tuo sepolcro in pace. I tuoi occhi non vedranno tutta la sciagura che io farò piombare su questo luogo e sui suoi abitanti". Quelli riferirono il messaggio al re.
29 And he, calling together all those greater by birth of Judah and Jerusalem,	29 Allora il re inviò dei messi e radunò tutti gli anziani di Giuda e di Gerusalemme.
30 ascended to the house of the Lord, united with all the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the priests and the Levites, and all the people, from the least even to the greatest. And in their hearing, in the house of the Lord, the king read all the words of the volume.	30 Il re, insieme con tutti gli uomini di Giuda, con gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, i sacerdoti, i leviti e tutto il popolo, dal più grande al più piccolo, salì al tempio. Egli fece leggere ai loro orecchi tutte le parole del libro dell'alleanza, trovato nel tempio.
31 And standing up at his tribunal, he struck a covenant before the Lord, so that he would walk after him, and would keep his precepts and testimonies and justifications, with his whole heart and with his whole soul, and so that he would do the things that were written in that volume, which he had read.	31 Il re, stando in piedi presso la colonna, concluse un'alleanza davanti al Signore, impegnandosi a seguire il Signore, a osservarne i comandi, le leggi e i decreti con tutto il cuore e con tutta l'anima, eseguendo le parole dell'alleanza scritte in quel libro.
32 Also, concerning this, he bound by oath all who had been found in Jerusalem and Benjamin. And the inhabitants of Jerusalem acted in accord with the covenant of the Lord, the God of their fathers.	32 Fece impegnare quanti si trovavano in Gerusalemme e in Beniamino. Gli abitanti di Gerusalemme agirono secondo l'alleanza di Dio, del Dio dei loro padri.
33 Therefore, Josiah took away all the abominations from all the regions of the sons of Israel. And he caused all who were remaining in Israel to serve the Lord their God. During all his days, they did not withdraw from the Lord, the God of their fathers.	33 Giosia rimosse tutti gli abomini da tutti i territori appartenenti agli Israeliti; costrinse quanti si trovavano in Israele a servire il Signore loro Dio. Finché egli visse non desistettero dal seguire il Signore, Dio dei loro padri.
