Genesis 40

1 While these things were going on, it happened that two eunuchs, the cupbearer of the king of Egypt, and the miller of grain, offended their lord.	1 Depois disto, aconteceu que o copeiro e o padeiro do rei do Egito ofenderam o seu senhor.
2 And Pharaoh, being angry with them, (now the one was in charge of the cupbearers, the other of the millers of grain)	2 O faraó, encolerizado contra os seus dois oficiais, o copeiro-mor e o padeiro-mor,
3 sent them to the prison of the leader of the military, in which Joseph also was a prisoner.	3 mandou-os encarcerar na casa do chefe da guarda, na prisão onde se encontrava detido José.
4 But the keeper of the prison delivered them to Joseph, who ministered to them also. Some little time passed by, while they were held in custody.	4 O chefe da guarda associou-lhes José para os servir. Havia já um certo tempo que estavam detidos,
5 And they both saw a similar dream on one night, whose interpretations should be related to one another.	5 quando os dois prisioneiros, o copeiro e o padeiro do rei do Egito, tiveram um sonho numa mesma noite, cada um o seu, com seu sentido particular.
6 And when Joseph had entered to them in the morning, and had seen them sad,	6 Quando José voltou junto deles no dia seguinte pela manhã, viu que estavam tristes.
7 he consulted them, saying, “Why is your expression sadder today than usual?”	7 Perguntou então aos oficiais do faraó, detidos com ele na casa do seu senhor: "Por que tendes hoje um ar sombrio?"
8 They responded, “We have seen a dream, and there is no one to interpret it for us.” And Joseph said to them, “Doesn’t interpretation belong to God? Recount for me what you have seen.”	8 "Tivemos um sonho, responderam; e não há ninguém para no-los interpretar." "Porventura, não pertence a Deus, replicou José, a interpretação dos sonhos? Rogo-vos que mos conteis."
9 The chief cupbearer explained his dream first. “I saw before me a vine,	9 E o copeiro-mor contou seu sonho a José: "Em meu sonho, disse ele, vi uma cepa que estava diante de mim,
10 on which were three shoots, which grew little by little into buds, and, after the flowers, it matured into grapes.	10 e nesta cepa três varas, que pareciam brotar; saiu uma flor e seus cachos deram uvas maduras.
11 And the cup of Pharaoh was in my hand. Therefore, I took the grapes, and I pressed them into the cup that I held, and I handed the cup to Pharaoh.”	11 Eu tinha na mão a taça do faraó; tomei as uvas e espremi-as na taça, que entreguei na mão do faraó."
12 Joseph responded: “This is the interpretation of the dream. The three shoots are the next three days,	12 José disse-lhe: "Eis o significado do teu sonho: as três varas são três dias.
13 after which Pharaoh will remember your service, and he will restore you to your former position. And you will give him the cup according to your office, as you were accustomed to do before.	13 Dentro de três dias, o faraó te reabilitará em tuas funções. Apresentarás ao faraó sua taça, como o fazias antes, quando eras seu copeiro.
14 Only remember me, when it will be well with you, and do me this mercy, to suggest to Pharaoh to lead me out of this prison.	14 Quando fores feliz, lembra-te de mim e faze-me o favor de recomendar-me ao faraó, para que ele me tire desta prisão.
15 For I have been stolen from the land of the Hebrews, and here, innocently, I was cast into the pit.”	15 Porque é por um rapto que fui tirado da terra dos hebreus, e aqui, igualmente, eu nada fiz para merecer a prisão."
16 The chief miller of grain, seeing that he had wisely unraveled the dream, said: “I also saw a dream: that I had three baskets of meal above my head,	16 O padeiro-mor, vendo que José tinha dado uma boa interpretação, disse-lhe: "Eu também, em meu sonho, levava sobre minha cabeça três cestas de pão branco.
17 and in one basket, which was the highest, I carried all foods that are made by the art of baking, and the birds ate from it.”	17 Nada de cima, havia toda a sorte de manjares para o faraó; mas as aves do céu comiam-nas na cesta que estava sobre minha cabeça."
18 Joseph responded: “This is the interpretation of the dream. The three baskets are the next three days,	18 "Eis, disse José, o que isto significa: as três cestas são três dias.
19 after which Pharaoh will carry away your head, and also suspend you from a cross, and the birds will tear your flesh.”	19 Dentro de três dias, o faraó levantará a tua cabeça: ele te suspenderá numa forca, e as aves devorarão a tua carne."
20 The third day thereafter was the birthday of Pharaoh. And making a great feast for his servants, he remembered, during the banquet, the chief cupbearer and the chief miller of grain.	20 No terceiro dia, celebrava-se o aniversário natalício do faraó, e ele ofereceu um banquete todo o seu pessoal. Ele levantou a cabeça do copeiro-mor, no meio de todos os seus servos:
21 And he restored the one to his place, to present him the cup;	21 restabeleceu no seu cargo o copeiro-mor, que apresentou novamente a taça ao faraó,
22 the other he hanged on a gallows, and thus the truth of the interpreter of dreams was proven.	22 e mandou suspender no patíbulo o padeiro-mor, segundo a interpretação que José lhes havia dado.
23 And although he advanced with so much prosperity, the chief cupbearer forgot his interpreter of dreams.	23 Mas o copeiro-mor não pensou mais em José; esqueceu-o.
