1 The ark of Yahweh was in Philistine territory for seven months.	1 E fue l'arca di Dio nelle parti de' Filistei sette mesi.
2 The Philistines then cal ed for their priests and diviners and asked, 'What shall we do with the ark ofYahweh? Tel us how to send it back to where it belongs.'	2 E chiamarono li Filistei gli sacerdoti e gli indovini, e dissero: che faremo dell' arca di Dio? dimostrateci, come la rimanderemo nel suo luogo. Li quali dissero:
3 They replied, 'If you send the ark of the God of Israel away, you must certainly not send it away withouta gift; you must pay him a guilt offering. You wil then recover and wil realise why he continual y oppressed you.'	3 Se voi rimandate l'arca di Dio, non la lasciate vacua, ma rendete quello che voi dovete per lo peccato; e allotta sarete curati, e saprete perchè non si parte la sua mano da voi.
4 They then asked, 'What guilt offering ought we to pay him?' They replied, 'Corresponding to the numberof Philistine chiefs: five golden tumours and five golden rats, since the same plague afflicted your chiefs as therest of you.	4 Li quali dissero che cosa è che noi dobbiamo rendere a lui per lo peccato? E quelli respuosero:
5 So make models of your tumours and models of your rats ravaging the territory, and pay honour to theGod of Israel. Then perhaps he wil stop oppressing you, your gods and your country.	5 Secondo il numero delle provincie de' Filistei, farete cinque culi d'oro, e cinque topi d' oro; perchè una piaga aveste tutti voi e i vostri savii. E farete la similitudiné de' culi vostri, e similitudine de' topi li quali hanno guasta la terra, e darete gloria a Dio d' Israel, [se] forse rileverà la sua mano da voi e da' vostri iddii e dalla vostra terra.
6 Why should you be as stubborn as Egypt and Pharaoh were? After he had brought disasters on them,did they not let the people leave?	6 Perchè aggravaste voi gli vostri cuori, come aggravarono gli Egizii e Faraone il cuore suo? Or non lasciarono loro il popolo, quando furono percossi, e andoronsene?
7 Now, then, take and fit out a new cart, and two milch cows that have never borne the yoke. Thenharness the cows to the cart and take their calves back to the byre.	7 Però tollete, e fate uno carro nuovo; e abbiate due vacche, le quali abbiano figliuoli, alle quali non sia posto giogo; e giugnetele al carro, e i loro vitelli riservate a casa.
8 Then take the ark of Yahweh, place it on the cart, and put the golden objects which you are paying himas guilt offering in a box beside it; and then send it off on its own.	8 E tollete l'arca di Dio, e portatela in sul carro; e quelle vasa, che voi date per lo peccato, porrete da lato in una cassettina; e lasciatela andare, che se ne vada.
9 Watch it; if it goes up the road to its own territory, towards Beth-Shemesh, then he was responsible forthis great harm to us; but if not, we shal know that it was not his hand that struck us, and that this has happenedto us by chance.'	9 E porrete mente; e s'elle n' anderanno per la via de' suoi confini verso di Betsames, sappiate che esso Iddio n' ha fatto questo grande male; ma se non, no; e sapremo che non ci ha tocchi la sua mano, ma ecci intervenuto per caso.
10 The people did this. They took two milch cows and harnessed them to the cart, shutting their calves inthe byre.	10 E loro fecero così; chè due vacche, le quali lattavano vitelli, giunsero al carro; e i loro vitelli rinchiusero in casa.
11 They then put the ark of Yahweh on the cart, with the box and the golden rats and the models of theirtumours.	11 E puoseno l'arca di Dio sopra il carro (nuovo), e la cassettina nella quale erano li topi dell' oro e le similitudini de' culi.
12 The cows made straight for Beth-Shemesh, keeping to the one road, lowing as they went and turningneither to right nor to left. The Philistine chiefs followed them as far as the boundaries of Beth-Shemesh.	12 E le vacche andavano diritte, per la via per la quale si va in Betsames (senza dimora alcuna), e per una strada andavano muggendo, e non si volgeano nè alla parte destra nè alla sinistra; e li satrapi delli Filistei le seguitavano persino alli termini di Betsames.
13 The people of Beth-Shemesh were reaping the wheat harvest in the plain when they looked up andsaw the ark and went joyful y to meet it.	13 E li Betsamiti tagliavano il grano nella valle; e levando gli occhi, videro l'arca di Dio, e veggendola si rallegrarono.
14 When the cart came to the field of Joshua of Beth-Shemesh, it stopped. There was a large stonethere, and they cut up the wood of the cart and offered the cows as a burnt offering to Yahweh.	14 E il carro venne nel campo di Iosuè dì Betsames, e istette ivi. Ed era ivi una grande pietra; e tagliarono le legna del carro, e le vacche posero sopra le legne per sacrifizio a Dio.
15 The Levites had taken down the ark of Yahweh and the box with it containing the golden objects andput these on the large stone. That day the people of Beth-Shemesh presented burnt offerings and madesacrifices to Yahweh.	15 E i leviti levarono l'arca di Dio, e la cassettina la quale gli era a lato, nella quale erano le vasa dell' oro; e puoserle sopra la grande pietra. E gli uomini di Betsames offerirono l'olocausto e vittime a Dio in quel dì.
16 The five chiefs of the Philistines, having witnessed this, went back to Ekron the same day.	16 E cinque savii de' Filistei videro ciò; e in quel dì ritornarono in Accaron.
17 The golden tumours paid by the Philistines as a guilt offering to Yahweh were as fol ows: one forAshdod, one for Gaza, one for Ashkelon, one for Gath, one for Ekron;	17 E i culi [d' oro], che renderono i Filistei a Dio per lo peccato, sono questi: Azoto uno, Gaza uno, Ascalon uno, Get uno, Accaron uno.
18 and golden rats to the number of al the Philistine towns, those of the five chiefs, from fortified townsdown to open villages: stil to this day the large stone in the field of Joshua of Beth-Shemesh, on which they putthe ark of Yahweh, is a witness.	18 Ei topi d' oro secondo il numero delle città de' Filistei, di cinque provincie, dalla città murata insino alla villa la quale è senza mura, e insino al grande sasso sopra lo quale puosero l'arca di Dio; la quale era insino a quel dì nel campo di Iosuè di Betsames.
19 Of the people of Beth-Shemesh the sons of Jeconiah had not rejoiced when they saw the ark ofYahweh, and Yahweh struck down seventy of them. The people mourned because Yahweh had struck them sofiercely.	19 E ferìo il Signore degli uomini di Betsames, però che aveano veduta l'arca di Dio; e percosse del popolo Lxx de' migliori omini e L milia de' minori. E pianse il popolo, però che Iddio avea percosso il popolo di grande piaga.
20 The people of Beth-Shemesh then said, 'Who can stand his ground before Yahweh, this holy God? Towhom shal he go, so that we are rid of him?'	20 E dissero gli uomini di Betsames: chi potrà stare in cospetto di questo Signore santo? e a cui ascenderà da noi?
21 So they sent messengers to the inhabitants of Kiriath-Jearim, to say, 'The Philistines have sent backthe ark of Yahweh; come down and take it up to your town.'	21 E mandarono messaggi agli uomini di Cariatiarim, dicendo: gli Filistei hanno rimenata l'arca di Dio; venite, e rimenatela a voi.
