1 From the Elder: greetings to my dear friend Gaius, whom I love in truth.	1 Старший — улюбленому Ґаєві, якого люблю у правді.
2 My dear friend, I hope everything is going happily with you and that you are as well physical y as youare spiritual y.	2 Любий, бажаю, щоб тобі в усьому велося добре і щоб ти був здоровим, так, як і душі твоїй ведеться добре.
3 It was a great joy to me when some brothers came and told of your faithfulness to the truth, and of yourlife in the truth.	3 Я дуже був зрадів, коли прийшли брати і засвідчили про твою правду: як ти живеш у правді.
4 It is always my greatest joy to hear that my children are living according to the truth.	4 Більшої радости не маю від тієї, як довідатися, що мої діти живуть у правді.
5 My dear friend, you have done loyal work in helping these brothers, even though they were strangers toyou.	5 Любий, ти вірно чиниш у тому, що робиш для братів, зосібна ж для чужинців.
6 They are a proof to the whole Church of your love and it would be a kindness if you could help them ontheir journey as God would approve.	6 Вони свідчили про твою любов перед Церквою. Ти добре зробиш, коли вирядиш їх, як це Богові вгодно.
7 It was entirely for the sake of the name that they set out, without depending on the non-believers foranything:	7 Вони бо вийшли імени його ради, нічого не бравши від поган.
8 it is our duty to welcome people of this sort and contribute our share to their work for the truth.	8 Отож, ми мусимо таких приймати, щоб були співробітниками правді.
9 I have written a note for the members of the church, but Diotrephes, who enjoys being in charge of it,refuses to accept us.	9 Я писав до Церкви, але Діотреф, що прагне у них бути першим, нас не приймає.
10 So if I come, I shal tel everyone how he has behaved, and about the wicked accusations he has beencirculating against us. As if that were not enough, he not only refuses to welcome our brothers, but prevents fromdoing so other people who would have liked to, and expels them from the church.	10 Тому, як прийду, згадаю про його вчинки, що він робить, виговорюючи на нас лихі слова. Та цього йому не досить: він і сам братів не приймає, і боронить тим, які хочуть приймати, і з Церкви виганяє.
11 My dear friend, never fol ow a bad example, but keep fol owing the good one; whoever does what isright is from God, but no one who does what is wrong has ever seen God.	11 Любий, наслідуй не зло, а добро. Хто добро чинить, той від Бога. Хто чинить зло, той не бачив Бога.
12 Demetrius has been approved by everyone, and indeed by Truth itself. We too wil vouch for him andyou know that our testimony is true.	12 А про Димитрія всі свідчать, навіть і сама правда. І ми теж свідчимо й те знаємо, що наше свідоцтво вірне.
13 There were several things I had to tel you but I would rather not trust them to pen and ink.	13 Чимало мав я тобі написати, але не хочу писати чорнилом та пером;
14 However, I hope to see you soon and talk to you in person.	14 надіюсь незабаром побачитися з тобою, то й поговоримо собі усно.
15 Peace be with you; greetings from your friends; greet each of our friends by name.	15 Мир тобі! Вітають тебе друзі. Вітай друзів пойменно.
