Joshua 7

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 But the Israelites were unfaithful to the curse of destruction. Achan son of Carmi, son of Zabdi, son ofZerah, of the tribe of Judah, took something that fell under the curse of destruction, and the anger of Yahwehwas aroused against the Israelites.	1 Ma i figliuoli d' Israel sì trapassarono il comandamento di Dio, e tolsono (e nascosono) di quello ch' era vietato. Acar figliuolo di Carmi, [figliuolo] di Zabdi figliuolo di Zare, della tribù di Iuda tolse alcuna cosa di quello ch' era vietato; e però (turbossi e) adirossi Iddio contro ai figliuoli d' Israel.
2 Now Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai (which is near Beth-Aven), to the east of Bethel, having said tothem, 'Go up and reconnoitre the country.' They went up and reconnoitred Ai.	2 E mandando poi Iosuè di Gerico uomini contro Ai, la quale istà presso a Betaven dalla parte dell' oriente (dove si leva il sole) del castello di Betel, sì disse loro: andate giuso, e sappiate come sta la terra. I quali (servando e) mettendo in esecuzione il comandamento ch' era loro dato, andarono (a provvedere e) a spiare la cittade di Ai.
3 Coming back to Joshua, they said, 'There is no need for the whole people to go up; let some two orthree thousand go and attack Ai. Spare the whole people such an effort; there are only a few of them!'	3 E tornati si dissero a Iosuè: non vada giuso tutto il popolo, ma vadanci due milia o tre milia uomini, e sì disfacciano questa cittade: perchè si debbe tutto quanto il popolo affaticare indarno contro a pochi inimici?
4 Of the people, some three thousand marched up, but these broke before the people of Ai,	4 E andarono a questa cittade tre milia combattitori; i quali incontamente volseno le spalle,
5 who killed some thirty-six of them and pursued them from the town gate as far as Shebarim, and on theslope cut them to pieces. The hearts of the people melted away and turned to water.	5 e furono isconfitti dagli uomini della cittade di Ai; e furono morti di loro XXXVI uomini, e sì gli perseguitarono i loro (nemici e) avversarii dalla porta (della città) insino a Sabarim; e sì caddero (e furono isconfitti) fuggendo per li piani; e isbigottissi il cuore del popolo, e diventò liquido come l'acqua.
6 Joshua then tore his clothes and prostrated himself before the ark of Yahweh til nightfal ; the elders ofIsrael did the same, and all poured dust on their heads.	6 E Iosuè si stracciò la vestimenta, e cadde chinato in terra, dinanzi dell' arca di Dio, insino al vespro, così egli come tutti quanti gli antichi d' Israel; e puosono la polvere sopra il capo loro.
7 And Joshua said, 'Alas, Lord Yahweh, why did you bother to bring this nation across the Jordan, if it wasonly to put us at the mercy of the Amorites and destroy us? If only we could have settled down on the other sideof the Jordan!	7 E disse Iosuè: guai, guai a noi, Signore Iddio; perchè volesti passare questo popolo il fiume Giordano, acciò che ci mettessi (e dessi) nelle mani degli uomini, sì che si spegni e uccidasi? Iddio il volesse, che come incominciammo, fossimo stati di là dal (fiume) Giordano.
8 Forgive me, Lord, but what can I say, now that Israel has turned tail on the enemy?	8 Signore mio Iddio, che dirò io, veggendo Israel voltare le spalle alli suoi nemici?
9 The Canaanites, al the inhabitants of the land, wil hear of it; they wil unite against us to wipe our namefrom the earth. And what wil you do about your great Name then?'	9 E udirannolo li Cananei e tutti gli abitatori della terra; e insieme raunati sì ci attornieranno, e ispegneranno il nome nostro della terra. E che potrai mostrare al tuo grande nome?
10 Yahweh said to Joshua, 'Stand up! Why are you lying prostrate like this?	10 E disse Iddio a Iosuè: lièvati suso; perchè stai tu chinato in terra?
11 Israel has sinned; they have violated the covenant which I imposed on them. They have gone so far asto take what was under the curse of destruction, they have even stolen it; they have actual y hidden it; they have put it in their baggage.	11 Il popolo d' Israel sì ha peccato, e sì ha trapassato il patto mio; e sì hanno tolto di quello ch' era (vietato ed) iscomunicato, e sì hanno involato e mentito; e trovasi siccome hanno nascoso loro le cose furate.
12 That is why the Israelites cannot stand up to their foes, why they have turned tail on their enemies:because they have come under the curse of destruction themselves. Unless you get rid of the object among youwhich has been put under the curse of destruction, I shal be with you no longer.'	12 Onde non potrà Israel istare innanzi a' suoi nemici, ma fuggirà dinanzi a loro; imperciò che è insozzato (e fatto immondo) di peccato della escomunicazione; ma io non sarò più con esso voi, insino a tanto che non atterrerete (e ucciderete) colui il quale è colpevole di questa cosa iscellerata (e di questo peccato).
13 'Get up, sanctify the people and say, "Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow, since Yahweh, the God ofIsrael, declares: The curse of destruction has now fal en on you, Israel; you wil not be able to stand up to yourenemies, until you have rid yourselves of that object which has been put under the curse of destruction.	13 Lièvati suso, (e va); santifica il popolo, e di' loro: questo dice Iddio, Signore d' Israel: vide che in mezzo di te si è commesso peccato (cioè di quello ch' era vietato ed iscomunicato) o Israel; tu non potrai istare dinanzi dalla faccia de' tuoi nemici, insino a tanto che quegli, che l' ha fatto, morto non sia (e iscacciato e ispento a terra del mezzo di voi), però ch' egli hae commesso così cosa iscellerata (e così grande peccato).
14 Tomorrow morning, therefore, you wil come forward tribe by tribe, and then the tribe which Yahwehselects by lot will come forward clan by clan, and the clan which Yahweh selects by lot will come forward familyby family, and the family which Yahweh selects by lot wil come forward man by man.	14 Voi sì anderete domattina tutti quanti, cadauno ordinato per la ischiatta sua; e sopra a qualunque ischiatta verrà la sorte, sì venga poi quella schiatta, e per parentado si divida, e poi per case e per uomo.
15 And the man indicated by lot as regards the object which has been put under the curse of destructionwil be delivered to the flames, he and al his possessions, for having violated the covenant with Yahweh and forhaving committed an infamy in Israel." '	15 E (per quella ischiatta) [colui] lo quale sarà compreso che abbia commesso questo peccato, sì sia arso con tutta la sua sostanza: imperò che esso sì ha trapassato il comandamento di Dio, e hae commesso cosa sozza in Israel.
16 Joshua got up early; he made Israel come forward tribe by tribe, and the lot indicated the tribe ofJudah.	16 E levandosi Iosuè la mattina, sì ordinò tutto il popolo secondo le loro ischiatte; e fu trovato (e messe le sorti) che la ischiatta di Giuda sì era colpevole.
17 He summoned the clans of Judah, and the lot indicated the clan of Zerah. He summoned the clan ofZerah, family by family, and the lot indicated Zabdi.	17 La quale esaminata, fu trovato ch' era colpevole la famiglia di Zare; la quale esaminata, fu trovata la casa di Zabdi.
18 Joshua then summoned the family of Zabdi, man by man, and the lot indicated Achan son of Carmi,son of Zabdi, son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah.	18 E poi cercata a uomo, fu trovato Acan figliuolo di Carmi, che fu figliuolo di Zabdi figliuolo di Zare, della schiatta di Giuda.
19 Joshua then said to Achan, 'My son, give glory to Yahweh, God of Israel, and confess; tel me whatyou have done and hide nothing from me.'	19 E disse [Iosuè] ad Acan: figliuolo mio, dà (lode e grazia e) gloria a Dio Signore d' Israel, e confessa e dimmi quello che tu hae fatto, e non me 'l celare (nè nascondere).
20 Achan replied to Joshua, 'Yes, I am the man who has sinned against Yahweh, God of Israel, and thisis what I have done.	20 E rispuose Acan a Iosuè, e sì gli disse; veramente ch' io ho peccato in Dio Signore d' Israel, e ho fatto così e così.
21 In the loot, I saw a fine robe from Shinar and two hundred shekels of silver and an ingot of goldweighing fifty shekels, I set my heart on them and I took them. They are hidden in the ground inside my tent, withthe silver underneath.'	21 Imperciò ch' io vidi tra la preda (e la roba) uno mantello rosso molto buono e dugento denari d'ariento (di due soldi e mezzo l' uno) e uno regolo d'oro il quale valea cinquanta denari; e vegnendomene voglia, si tolsi queste cose, e nascosi dirimpetto al mezzo del mio tabernacolo (dove io abito); e l'argento misi in una fossa, e coprì'lo colla terra.
22 Joshua sent messengers; they ran to the tent, and the robe was indeed hidden in the tent, with thesilver underneath.	22 E mandò Iosuè i sergenti lae; i quali correndo al tabernacolo di costui, trovarono ogni cosa nascosa in quello medesimo luogo, insieme coll' argento.
23 They took the things out of the tent and, bringing them to Joshua and all the Israelites, laid them outbefore Yahweh.	23 E togliendolo del tabernacolo, sì portarono ogni cosa a Iosuè e a tutti i figliuoli d' Israel; e sì gli gittarono dinanzi di Dio.
24 Joshua then took Achan son of Zerah and led him up to the Vale of Achor, with the silver and the robeand the ingot of gold, his sons, his daughters, his oxen, his donkeys, his sheep, his goats, his tent and al hisbelongings. Al Israel went with him.	24 E togliendo Iosuè Acan figliuolo di Zare, e l'argento e il mantello e il regolo dell' oro, e i suoi figliuoli e le sue figliuole, e i buoi e gli asini e le pecore, e il suo tabernacolo e tutta quanta la sua massarizia, e tutti i figliuoli d' Israel con esso lui, sì lo menarono nella valle d' Acor.
25 Joshua said, 'Why have you brought misfortune on us? Today may Yahweh bring misfortune on you!'And all Israel stoned him to death (and they burned them and threw stones at them).	25 Dove disse Iosuè: imperciò che tu ci hai turbati tutti quanti, Iddio sì ti sturbi in questo dì d'oggi. E sì lo lapidarono tutti i figliuoli d'Israel; e tutte le cose che a lui s'apparteneano, sì furono (arse e) consumate col fuoco.
26 Over him, they raised a great mound of stones, which is still there today. Yahweh then relented fromhis fierce anger. That was why the place was cal ed the Vale of Achor, as it stil is today.	26 E si gli raunarono e feciono adosso uno grande monte di pietre, il quale vi sta insino al dì d'oggi. E partissi (l'ira e) il furore di Dio, il quale avea contro a loro; e fue chiamato il nome di quello luogo LA VALLE D' ACOR, insino al dì d' oggi.
