Deuteronomy 32

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 Listen, heavens, while I speak; hear, earth, the words that I shal say!	1 Udite, cieli, quello ch' io parlo; oda la terra le parole della bocca mia.
2 May my teaching fal like the rain, may my word drop down like the dew, like showers on the grass,like light rain on the turf!	2 La dottrina mia cresca come la piova; il mio parlare venga ed esca, come la rugiada e come la brinata sopra l'erba, e come l'acqua stillata sopra la gramigna.
3 For I shal proclaim the name of Yahweh. Oh, tell the greatness of our God!	3 Imperciò ch' io chiamerà il nome di Dio; date magnificenza (e grandezza) a Dio nostro Signore.
4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect, for al his ways are equitable. A trustworthy God who does nowrong, he is the Honest, the Upright One!	4 (Imperciò che) le sue opere sono perfette, e le sue vie sono i giudicii suoi; egli è Iddio fedele e senza alcuna iniquità, giusto e diritto.
5 They have acted perversely, those he fathered without blemish, a deceitful and underhand brood.	5 E i suoi figliuoli peccarono in lui in sozzura (e in peccato); generazione rea e perversa,
6 Is this the return you make to Yahweh? O people brainless and unwise! Is this not your father, whogave you being, who made you, by whom you subsist?	6 la quale poco rendi a Iddio Signore; popolo istolto e senza senno, di’: non è egli tuo padre, il quale ti possiede (e mantiene), e feceti e creotti?
7 Think back on the days of old, think over the years, down the ages. Question your father, let himexplain to you, your elders, and let them tel you!	7 Ricordati delli di antichi, e pensa per ciascuna generazione; e domandane il padre tuo, ed egli sì lo ti dirà; e li tuoi maggiori il ti diranno.
8 When the Most High gave the nations each their heritage, when he partitioned out the human race, heassigned the boundaries of nations according to the number of the children of God,	8 Quando Iddio tuo altissimo dividea le genti; quando separava se dividea i figliuoli di Adamo, egli (puose e) ordinò i termini de' popoli, secondo il numero de' figliuoli d'Israel.
9 but Yahweh's portion was his people, Jacob was to be the measure of his inheritance.	9 Ma la parte di Dio sì è il popolo suo; e Iacob il ligamento della sua eredità.
10 In the desert he finds him, in the howling expanses of the wastelands. He protects him, rears him,guards him as the pupil of his eye.	10 Egli (cioè Iddio) il trovoe (cioè) nella terra deserta, in luogo pauroso e oscuro, e nel profondo della solitudine; egli il menù di quà e di là; e sì gl' insegnò (e ammaestrò), e sì lo guardò come la luce del suo occhio.
11 Like an eagle watching its nest, hovering over its young, he spreads out his wings to hold him, hesupports him on his pinions.	11 E siccome l'aquila, la quale provoca a vo lare i suoi figliuoli e vola sopra i suoi figliuoli, così egli sì prese le sue ali, e sì lo recò a sè, e sì lo portò in su le sue spalle.
12 Yahweh alone is his guide; no alien god for him!	12 Solo Iddio fu lo suo guidatore (e menatore), e non era con lui Iddio estrano (ad altrui).
13 He gives him the heights of the land to ride, he feeds him on the yield of the mountains, he gives himhoney from the rock to taste, and oil from the flinty crag;	13 Egli il puose sopra la terra grandissima, acciò che mangiasse i frutti de' campi, acciò che succhiasse (e traesse) il miele della pietra, e l'olio del sasso durissimo,
14 curds from the cattle, milk from the flock, and the richness of the pasture, rams of Bashan's breed,and goats, the richness of the wheat kernel; the fermented blood of the grape for drink.	14 e il butiro dell' armento, il latte (cioè il siro) delle pecore (e degli armenti) colla grassezza degli agnelli de' figliuoli di Basan, e ' capretti colla midolla del grano; e che bevessono il sangue dell' uva pu rissimo.
15 Jacob has eaten to his heart's content, Jeshurun, grown fat, has now lashed out. (You have grownfat, gross, bloated.) He has disowned the God who made him, and dishonoured the Rock, his salvation,	15 Il mio diletto si è ingrassato, e ricalcitro; egli è ripieno e dilatato; egli hae abbandonato Iddio suo che il fece, ed èssi partito da Dio il quale è sua salute.
16 whose jealousy they aroused with foreigners -- with things detestable they angered him.	16 Egli l'hanno provocato, adorando agli dii altrui; e sì l'hanno concitato colle abbominazioni loro.
17 They sacrificed to demons who are not God, to gods hitherto unknown to them, to newcomers ofyesterday whom their ancestors had never respected.	17 Egli sacrificarono alli demonii, e non a Dio; alli dii che non conoscevano, dii nuovi (e di nuovo fatti), li quali i loro padri non aveano adorati.
18 (You forget the Rock who fathered you, the God who made you, you no longer remember.)	18 Iddio, che ti generò, tu sì abbandonasti; e se'ti dimenticato di Dio, (tuo signore e) tuo creatore.
19 Yahweh saw it and, in anger, he spurned his sons and daughters.	19 E (Iddio) sì vide, e si concitò ad ira; però che lo provocarono i suoi figliuoli e le sue figliuole.
20 'I shal hide my face from them,' he said, 'and see what wil become of them. For they are a deceitfulbrood, children with no loyalty in them.	20 E (Iddio) disse: io nasconderò la faccia mia da loro, e considererò tutte le sue cose nuove; imperciò che la sì è generazione perversa, e figliuoli infedeli.
21 They have roused me to jealousy with a non-god, they have exasperated me with their idols. In myturn I shal rouse them to jealousy with a non-people, I shal exasperate them with a stupid nation.	21 Egli sì mi provocarono in quella cosa che non era Dio, e sì mi concitarono nelle loro abbomi nazioni; e io provocarò loro in quella cosa che non è [popolo), e in gente stolta cì gli concitard.
22 Yes, a fire has blazed from my anger, it will burn right down to the depths of Sheol; it will devour theearth and al its produce, it wil set fire to the footings of the mountains.	22 Il fuoco è acceso nel furore mio, e arderae insino alla fine dello inferno; e sì devorerà la terra col frutto che fa, e i fondamenti de' monti sì arderanno.
23 I shal hurl disasters on them, on them I shal use up al my arrows.	23 Io raunerò molti mali sopra loro, e le mie saette (manderò e) compierò in loro.
24 They wil be weakened by hunger, eaten away by plague and the bitter scourge. Against them I shalsend the fang of wild animals and the poison of snakes that glide in the dust.	24 Loro morranno di fame, e gli uccelli sì gli divoreranno di morso amarissimo; io manderò loro adosso denti di bestie crudeli, e degli altri che vanno sopra la terra, e anco li serpenti.
25 Outside, the sword bereaves, while inside terror wil reign. Young man and girl alike will perish,suckling and greybeard both together.	25 Di fuori gli guasterà (e taglierà) il coltello, e dentro sarà la grave paura; e questo sarà al gio vane e alla vergine, e a quelli che poppa insieme coll'uomo (antico e) vecchio.
26 I should crush them to dust, I said, I should wipe out al memory of them,	26 E dissi: ove sono loro? Io farò (partire e) cessare dagli uomini la loro (ricordanza e la loro) memoria.
27 did I not fear the boasting of the enemy.' But do not let their foes be mistaken! Do not let them say,'We have got the upper hand and Yahweh plays no part in this.'	27 Ma solamente ho lasciato per l'ira de' loro nemici, acciò che non insuperbiscano, e dicesseno: questo hae fatto la nostra mano potente e alta, e non l'ha fatte Iddio queste cose.
28 What a short-sighted nation this is, how thoroughly imperceptive!	28 Gente sanza consiglio e sanza prudenza (e senza senno).
29 Were they wise, they would succeed, they would be able to read their destiny.	29 Dio volesse, che loro sapessono e intendes sono e provedessono dell' ultime cose le quali debbono venire.
30 How else could one man rout a thousand, how could two put ten thousand to flight, were it not thattheir Rock has sold them, that Yahweh has delivered them up?	30 Come uno di loro perseguitarà mille degli altri, e due ne caccerebbono dieci mila (cioè de' loro nemici)? Questo non è per altro, se non che Iddio loro gli vendè, e il Signore sì gli (condusse e) atterrò.
31 But their rock is not like our Rock; our enemies cannot pray for us!	31 Imperciò che il nostro Iddio non è come lo Dio loro; e i nostri nemici sono giudici.
32 For their vine springs from the stock of Sodom and from the groves of Gomorrah: their grapes arepoisonous grapes, their clusters are bitter;	32 La loro vigna sì è della vigna di Sodoma e de' borghi di Gomorra; la loro uva si è come di fiele, e l'acino amarissimo.
33 their wine is snakes' poison, the vipers' cruel venom.	33 Il loro vino sì è fiele (di serpenti o) di dragoni, e veneno d'aspidi (sordi) insanabile.
34 But he, is he not safe with me, sealed inside my treasury?	34 (Imperciò che) queste cose non sono riposte appo di me, e segnate (e sigillate) nelli miei tesori?
35 Vengeance is mine, I wil pay them back, for the time when they make a false step. For the day oftheir ruin is close, doom is rushing towards them, for he wil see to it that their power fails. that neither serf norfree man remains.	35 Ma sì è mia (di fare) la vendetta, e io la (manderò e) renderò loro nel tempo (loro), acciò che il loro piede venga meno. Ecco che s'approssima il dì della loro perdizione (e morte), e i tempi s'affretteranno di venire.
36 (For Yahweh wil see his people righted, he wil take pity on his servants.)	36 Iddio sì giudicherà il suo popolo, e nelli suoi servi sì avrà misericordia; egli vederà che la mano si è infermata, e rinchiusi si sono venuti meno, e quelli i quali sono rimasi si sono consumati.
37 'Where are their gods then?' he wil ask, 'the rock where they sought refuge,	37 E sì dirà: dove sono gli dii loro, nei quali loro aveano speranza,
38 who ate the fat of their sacrifices and drank the wine of their libations?' Let these arise and help you,let these be the shelter above you!	38 Della cui ostia e sacrificii loro mangiavano il grasso e beveano il vino de' sacrificii? lievinsi, e sì vi aiutino, e sì vi defendano nella vostra necessità.
39 See now that I, I am he, and beside me there is no other god. It is I who deal death and life; when Ihave struck, it is I who heal (no one can rescue anyone from me).	39 Vedete (e sappiate) ch' io sono Iddio, e non è altro Iddio fuori di me; io ucciderò, e io darò vita; e non è chi possa campare delle mie mani; e sì percuoterò e sanerò.
40 Yes, I raise my hand to heaven, and I say, 'As surely as I live for ever,	40 E leverò al cielo la mia mano, e dirò: io vivo in eterno.
41 When I have whetted my flashing sword, I shal enforce justice, I shal return vengeance to my foes, Ishall take vengeance on my foes.	41 Io sì aguzzerò come il folgore il mio coltello, e le mie mani piglieranno il giudicio; io farò vendetta de' miei nemici, e coloro che mi hanno avuto in odio, io li meriterò.
42 I shal make my arrows drunk with blood, and my sword wil feed on flesh: the blood of the woundedand the prisoners, the dishevelled heads of the enemy!'	42 Io (empierò e) inebrierò le mie saette del sangue loro, e il mio coltello (taglierà e) divorerà le carni, dello sangue di coloro che saranno morti, e del capo scoperto de' nemici i quali sono menati in pregione.
43 Heavens, rejoice with him, let al the children of God pay him homage! Nations, rejoice with hispeople, let God's envoys tel of his power! For he wil avenge the blood of his servants, he wil return vengeanceto my foes, he will repay those who hate him and purify his people's country.	43 Lodate (ed esaltate), genti, il popolo suo (cioè di Dio); imperciò che farà vendetta del sangue de' suoi servi, e vendetta farà sopra i loro nemici, e averà pietà (e misericordia) alla terra del popolo suo.
44 Moses came with Joshua son of Nun and recited all the words of this song in the people's hearing.	44 E venne Moisè, e disse tutte le parole di questo canto nelle orecchie di tutto il popolo, egli e Iosuè figliuolo di Nun.
45 When Moses had finished reciting these words to al Israel,	45 E sì compiette tutti quanti questi sermoni, parlando a tutto lo universo popolo d'Israel.
46 he said to them, 'Take al these words to heart; I intend them today to be evidence against you. Youmust order your children to keep and observe al the words of this Law.	46 E disse loro: ponete (bene) i vostri cuori in tutte quante le parole ch' io vi (dico e) favello oggi, acciò che voi comandiate a' vostri figliuoli, che le osservino (e guardino bene), e facciano e adempiano tutte queste cose che sono scritte (nel volume) di questa legge.
47 You must not think of this as empty words, for the Law is your life, and by its means you will live longin the country which you are crossing the Jordan to possess.'	47 Imperciò che non vi sono comandate in darno (e invano), ma acciò che tutti vivessono sotto questa legge; le quali cose (che vi sono dentro) fa cendo, perseveriate lungo tempo nella terra la quale, passato il (fiume) Giordano, entrerete a possedere.
48 Yahweh spoke to Moses that same day and said to him,	48 E favellò Iddio Signore a Moisè in quel dì medesimo, e sì gli disse:
49 'Climb this mountain of the Abarim, Mount Nebo, in the country of Moab, opposite Jericho, and viewthe Canaan which I am giving to the Israelites as their domain.	49 Sali in su questo monte Abarim, cioè nei passi, del monte di Nebon, il quale si è nella terra di Moab di contro (e dirimpetto) a Gerico; e (ragguarda e) vedi la terra di Canaan, la quale io ho data ai figliuoli d'Israel, che la (piglino e) tengano; e poi sì ti muori in sul monte.
50 Die on the mountain you have climbed, and be gathered to your people, as your brother Aaron diedon Mount Hor and was gathered to his people.	50 Il quale salendo, sì ti congiugnerai coi tuoi popoli; come è morto Aaron tuo fratello nel monte di Or; e sì (si riposoe, e) fu posto colli popoli suoi.
51 Because, with the other Israelites, you broke faith with me at the Waters of Meribah-Kadesh in thedesert of Zin, because you did not make my holiness clear to the Israelites;	51 Imperciò che voi trapassaste la mia volontà, nel mezzo de' figliuoli d'Israel, all'acque della contraddizione in Cades, nel deserto dì Sin; e non mi santificaste intra i figliuoli d'Israel (cioè non credeste questo ch' io vi dissi, anzi dubitaste, conciosia cosa ch' io sia santo ed intero).
52 you may only see the country from outside; you cannot enter it -- the country which I am giving to theIsraelites.'	52 E imperciò tu vederai la terra, e non v'entrerai dentro; la quale terra io darò ai figliuoli d'Israel.
