Deuteronomy 25

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 'If people fal out, they must go to court for judgement; the judges must declare the one who is right tobe in the right, the one who is wrong to be in the wrong.	1 Se, sorta lite fra alcuni, vien fatto ricorso ai giudici, questi daran la palma di giustizia a colui che avran riconosciuto giusto, e condanneranno di empietà quello riconosciuto empio.
2 If the one who is in the wrong deserves a flogging, the judge must have him laid on the ground andflogged in his presence, the number of strokes proportionate to his offence.	2 E se giudicheranno il reo degno di esser battuto, fattolo distendere per terra, lo faran battere in loro presenza, con numero di colpi proporzionato alla gravità della colpa,
3 He may impose forty strokes but no more; otherwise, by the infliction of more, serious injury may becaused and your brother be humiliated before you.	3 senza però passare il numero di quaranta, affinchè il tuo fratello non se ne vada sconciamente lacerato sotto i tuoi occhi.
4 'You must not muzzle an ox when it is treading out the corn.	4 Non metterai la museruola al bue che nell'aia ti trebbia le biade.
5 'If brothers live together and one of them dies childless, the dead man's wife may not marry a strangeroutside the family. Her husband's brother must come to her and, exercising his duty as brother, make her hiswife,	5 Quando due fratelli staranno insieme, venendo uno di essi a morire sènza figli, la moglie del defunto non si mariterà ad un estraneo, ma all'altro fratello, che darà discendenza al fratello morto,
6 and the first son she bears must assume the dead brother's name; by this means his name wil not beobliterated from Israel.	6 e chiamerà il primo figlio avuto da lei col nome del fratello, affinchè il nome di lui non s'estingua in Israele.
7 But if the man declines to take his brother's wife, she must go to the elders at the gate and say, "Ihave no brother-in-law willing to perpetuate his brother's name in Israel; he declines to exercise his duty asbrother in my favour."	7 Se poi egli non volesse sposare la moglie del fratello, che gli è dovuta per legge, la donna andrà alla porta della città, e interpellando gli anziani, dirà: Il fratello di mio marito non vuole far rivivere il nome del suo fratello in Israele, nè prendermi per moglie.
8 The elders of the town must summon the man and talk to him. If, on appearing before them, he says,"I refuse to take her,"	8 Allora, fattolo tosto chiamare, lo interrogheranno. Se egli risponderà: Non voglio prenderla per moglie,
9 then the woman to whom he owes duty as brother must go up to him in the presence of the elders,take the sandal off his foot, spit in his face, and pronounce the fol owing words, "This is what is done to the manwho refuses to restore his brother's house,"	9 la donna, avvicinatasi a lui, in presenza degli anziani, gli leverà dal piede il sandalo, gli sputerà in faccia e dirà: Così sarà fatto all'uomo che non edifica la casa del suo fratello.
10 and his family must henceforth be known in Israel as House of the Unshod.	10 E la famiglia di lui sarà in Israele chiamata « famiglia dello scalzato ».
11 'If, when two men are fighting, the wife of one intervenes to protect her husband from the other'sblows by reaching out and seizing the other by his private parts,	11 Se mentre due uomini in litigio si azzuffano, la moglie di uno di essi, per liberare il marito dal più forte, stendendo la mano, afferrerà quest'ultimo per le vergogne,
12 you must cut off her hand and show no pity.	12 tu le taglierai la mano, senza aver di lei compassione alcuna.
13 'You must not keep two different weights in your bag, one heavy, one light.	13 Non tener nella sacchetta due pesi, uno grande e uno più piccolo,
14 You must not keep two different measures in your house, one large, one smal .	14 nè in casa due misure, una grande e una più piccola;
15 You must keep one weight, ful and accurate, so that you may have long life in the country given youby Yahweh your God.	15 ma terrai pesi giusti e veri, misura giusta e vera; affinchè tu viva lungamente sopra la terra che il Signore Dio tuo sta per darti,
16 For anyone who does things of this kind and acts dishonestly is detestable to Yahweh your God.	16 chè, detestando il Signore Dio tuo ogni ingiustizia, ha in ahbominazione chi fa queste cose.
17 'Remember how Amalek treated you when you were on your way out of Egypt.	17 Ricordati di ciò che Amalec ti fece nel cammino dopo la tua uscita dall'Egitto,
18 He met you on your way and, after you had gone by, he fel on you from the rear and cut off thestragglers; when you were faint and weary, he had no fear of God.	18 come, non temendo Dio, ti assalì e tagliò a pezzi gli ultimi del tuo esercito che per la stanchezza si eran fermati, mentre tu eri sfinito per le fatiche e per la fame.
19 When Yahweh your God has granted you peace from al the enemies surrounding you, in the countrygiven you by Yahweh your God to own as your heritage, you must blot out the memory of Amalek under heaven.Do not forget.'	19 Or quando il Signore Dio tuo ti avrà dato requie, ed avrà assoggettate tutte le genti d'intorno nel paese che ti ha promesso, tu cancellerai il nome di Amalec di sotto il cielo. Bada di non dimenticarlo.
