Amos 5

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 Listen to this word which I utter against you, it is a dirge, House of Israel:	1 Udite questa parola, la quale io lievo sopra voi, cioè lo pianto: la casa d' Israel cadde, e non si rileverà.
2 She has fal en down, never to rise again, the virgin Israel. There she lies on her own soil, with no oneto lift her up.	2 La vergine d' Israel è gittata nella sua terra, e non è chi la risvegli.
3 For Lord Yahweh says this: The town which used to put a thousand in the field wil be left with ahundred, and the one which used to put a hundred will be left with ten, to fight for the House of Israel.	3 Questo dice lo Signore Iddio: la città, d'onde ne uscivano mille, cento ve ne rimarrà; di quella donde n' uscivano cento, ve ne rimarranno X nella casa d' Israel.
4 For Yahweh says this to the House of Israel: Seek me out and you wil survive,	4 Però [che] questo dice lo Signore Iddio [alla casa] d'Israel: addomandate me, e viverete.
5 but do not seek out Bethel, do not go to Gilgal, do not journey to Beersheba, for Gilgal is going intocaptivity and Bethel will be brought to nothing.	5 E non vogliate addomandare Betel, e non vogliate entrare in Galgala, e non entrerete in Bersabee; però che Galgala sarà menata in prigionia, e Betel sarà (menata) inutile; (questi tre nomi, cioè Betel, Galgala e Bersabee, sono nomi di terre).
6 Seek out Yahweh and you wil survive or else he wil sweep like fire upon the House of Joseph andburn it down, with no one at Bethel able to quench the flames.	6 Addomandate lo Signore, e vivete; acciò che forse non si accenda lo fuoco nella casa di Iosef, e divorerà Betel, e non sarà chi lo spenga.
7 They turn justice into wormwood and throw uprightness to the ground.	7 I quali convertite in assenzio lo giudicio, e la giustizia (del Signore) lasciate in terra.
8 He it is who makes the Pleiades and Orion, who turns shadow dark as death into morning and day todarkest night, who summons the waters of the sea and pours them over the surface of the land. Yahweh is hisname.	8 Colui che fa lo mese da seminare e da ricogliere, e che fae la nebbia convertire nella mattina, e muta lo dì nella notte; e chiama l' acque del mare, e spargele sopra la faccia della terra; lo suo nome è Signore;
9 He brings destruction on the strong and ruin comes on the fortress.	9 il quale sorride (e fa beffe) del guastamento ch' è sopra lo robusto, e dà spopolamento (e disertamento conduce) sopra lo potente.
10 They hate the man who teaches justice at the city gate and detest anyone who declares the truth.	10 Ed ebbono in odio colui che li riprendeva nella porta, e abbominarono colui che parlava perfettamente.
11 For trampling on the poor man and for extorting levies on his wheat: although you have built housesof dressed stone, you wil not live in them; although you have planted pleasant vineyards, you wil not drink winefrom them:	11 E però che voi rubavate lo povero, e togliavate la preda eletta da lui, edificherete le case con quadrate pietre, e non abiterete; e pianteretevi le vigne dilettissime, e non berete lo loro vino.
12 for I know how many your crimes are and how outrageous your sins, you oppressors of the upright,who hold people to ransom and thrust the poor aside at the gates.	12 Però ch' io ho conosciuto le molte vostre fellonie, e li vostri forti peccati; poi che siete nimici del giusto, e togliete lo dono, e battete lo povero nella porta.
13 That is why anyone prudent keeps silent now, since the time is evil.	13 E però lo savio tacerà in quello tempo; però che lo tempo è reo.
14 Seek good and not evil so that you may survive, and Yahweh, God Sabaoth, be with you as you claimhe is.	14 Addomandate lo bene, e non lo male, accid che voi viviate; e lo Signore delli esèrciti sarà con voi, sì come voi diceste.
15 Hate evil, love good, let justice reign at the city gate: it may be that Yahweh, God Sabaoth, wil takepity on the remnant of Joseph.	15 Abbiate in odio lo male, e amate lo bene, e ordinate nella porta lo giudicio; se forse lo Signore delli esèrciti abbia misericordia dello rimanente di Iosef.
16 Therefore Yahweh Sabaoth, the Lord, says this: In every public square there wil be lamentation, inevery street they will cry out, 'Alas! Alas!' The farmer wil be called on to mourn, the professional mourners tolament,	16 E però questo dice lo Signore delli esèrciti, lo Iddio signoreggiatore: in tutte le piazze si piange (lo pianto); e tutti quelli che sono di fuori si dirà: guai, guai, (guai a noi); e chiameranno lo lavoratore della terra a piagnere, e chiameranno al pianto coloro che sanno piagnere.
17 and there wil be wailing in every vineyard, for I mean to pass through among you, Yahweh says.	17 E lo pianto sarà in tutte le vigne; però ch' io passerò per lo mezzo, dice lo Signore.
18 Disaster for you who long for the Day of Yahweh! What will the Day of Yahweh mean for you? It wilmean darkness, not light,	18 Guai a coloro che desiderano lo dì del Signore; per che lo volete quello dì? a voi questo dì sarà di tenebre, e non di luce.
19 as when someone runs away from a lion, only to meet a bear; he goes into his house and puts hishand on the wal , only for a snake to bite him.	19 Come se l' uomo fugga dalla faccia del leone, e incontro li vegna l'orso; ed entri nella casa, e quando anderà su per la parete aggrappandosi con mano, lo serpente lo morda.
20 Will not the Day of Yahweh be darkness, not light, total y dark, without a ray of light?	20 Or dunque non è come ombra lo dì del Signore, e non luce; e oscuritade, non splendore, in quello?
21 I hate, I scorn your festivals, I take no pleasure in your solemn assemblies.	21 Io hoe avuto in odio, e hoe gittate via le vostre feste; e non piglieròe odore delle vostre compagnie.
22 When you bring me burnt offerings . . . your oblations, I do not accept them and I do not look at yourcommunion sacrifices of fat cattle.	22 E se voi offerrete a me l' offerte e li vostri doni, io non li riceverò, e non ragguarderò alli voti delle vostre cose grasse.
23 Spare me the din of your chanting, let me hear none of your strumming on lyres,	23 Leva da me lo tumulto de' vostri versi; e non esaudirò lo canto dello vostro volto.
24 but let justice flow like water, and uprightness like a never-failing stream!	24 E lo giudicio si leverà come acqua, e la giustizia come uno forte fiumicello.
25 Did you bring me sacrifices and oblations those forty years in the desert, House of Israel?	25 Or (non) mi offeriste voi l'ostie e lo sacrificio nel diserto XL anni, o (tu) casa d' Israel?
26 Now you must shoulder Sakkuth your king and the star of your God, Kaiwan, those idols you made foryourselves;	26 E portaste li tabernacoli a Moloc vostro, e la imagine de' vostri idoli, la stella del vostro iddio, li quali voi faceste a voi.
27 for I am about to drive you into captivity beyond Damascus, Yahweh says -- God Sabaoth is hisname.	27 E farovvi passare Damasco, dice colui il quale si chiama per nome lo Signore Iddio delli esèrciti.
