Daniel 6

1 and Darius the Mede received the kingdom, at the age of sixty-two.	1 Piacque a Dario (e ordinò) e constituì sopra lo regno suo CXX satrapi, acciò che fossono sopra il regno suo.
2 It pleased Darius to appoint a hundred and twenty satraps over his kingdom for the various parts,	2 E sopra di questi ordinò tre principi, dei quali Daniele era uno, acciò che li satrapi rendessono ragione a quelli, e lo re non avesse tanta molestia.
3 and over them three presidents -- of whom Daniel was one -- to whom the satraps were to beresponsible. This was to safeguard the king's interests.	3 Daniel dunque superava tutti questi prìncipi e tutti li satrapi; però che lo spirito di Dio era molto grande in lui.
4 This Daniel, by virtue of the marvel ous spirit residing in him, was so evidently superior to the otherpresidents and satraps that the king considered appointing him to rule the whole kingdom.	4 E per questo pensò il re di constituirlo sopra tutto il suo regno; per la qual cosa li principi e li satrapi cercavano occasione di poterlo accusare al re: e non potèro trovare cagione alcuna nè sospizione, però ch' egli era fedele, e non si potea trovare in lui alcuno mancamento nè sospicione alcuna.
5 The presidents and satraps, in consequence, started hunting for some affair of state by which theycould discredit Daniel; but they could find nothing to his discredit, and no case of negligence; he was sopunctilious that they could not find a single instance of maladministration or neglect.	5 Dissero dunque quelli uomini: noi non troveremo a questo Daniele alcuna occasione, se non forse nella legge del suo Dio.
6 These men then thought, 'We shal never find a way of discrediting Daniel unless we try something todo with the law of his God.'	6 Allora li principi e li satrapi secretamente suasero al re, e disserli: Dario re, in eterno vivi.
7 The presidents and satraps then went in a body to the king. 'King Darius,' they said, 'live for ever!	7 Tutti li principi del tuo regno hanno fatto consiglio, e li magistrati e li satrapi e li senatori e li giudici, che lo statuto e la legge sia fatta, e comandi, che chiunque dimanderà alcuna cosa da alcuno Dio ovver uomo, persino a XXX dì, salvo che da te, sia posto nel lago de' leoni.
8 We are all agreed, presidents of the realm, magistrates, satraps, councillors and governors, that theking should issue an edict enforcing the fol owing regulation: Whoever within the next thirty days prays toanyone, divine or human, other than to yourself, Your Majesty, is to be thrown into the lions' den.	8 Ora dunque, re, conferma questa sentenza, e scrivi questo decreto, acciò che quello ch' è statuito non si muti dalli Medi nè dalli Persi, e non sia lecito ad alcuno di preterirlo.
9 Your Majesty, ratify the edict at once by signing this document, making it unalterable, as befits the lawof the Medes and the Persians, which cannot be revoked.'	9 (Udendo questo), Dario re confirmò lo decreto, e sì lo propose.
10 King Darius accordingly signed the document embodying the edict.	10 La qual cosa intendendo Daniel, cioè questa legge esser ordinata, entrò nella casa sua; e aperte le finestre nella parte superiore della casa [sua] verso Ierusalem, per tre ore del dì stando in ginocchioni orava, e confessavasi dinanzi allo Dio suo, sì come dinanzi era consueto di fare.
11 When Daniel heard that the document had been signed, he retired to his house. The windows of hisupstairs room faced towards Jerusalem. Three times each day, he went down on his knees, praying and givingpraise to God as he had always done.	11 Quelli uomini, diligentemente investigando, trovorono Daniele orante e pregante il suo Dio.
12 These men came along in a body and found Daniel praying and pleading with God.	12 E venendo costoro parlarono al re sopra lo comandamento (e dissero): re, non hai tu ordinato, che chiunque pregherà alcuno delli dii e degli uomini, per sino a XXX dì, salvo che te, re, sia posto nel lago de' leoni? Alli quali rispose il re, e disse: questo è vero secondo lo statuto delli Medi e delli Persi, lo qual non è lecito di prevaricare.
13 They then went to the king and reminded him of the royal edict, 'Have you not signed an edictforbidding anyone for the next thirty days to pray to anyone, divine or human, other than to yourself, YourMajesty, on pain of being thrown into the lions' den?' 'The decision stands', the king replied, 'as befits the law ofthe Medes and the Persians, which cannot be revoked.'	13 Allotta respondendo dissero dinanzi al re: Daniele, de' figliuoli della presa di Giuda, non si curò della tua legge, e dello comandamento che tu hai ordinato; ma ogni [dì], tre ore fa la sua orazione.
14 They then said to the king, 'Your Majesty, this man Daniel, one of the exiles from Judah, disregardsboth you and the edict which you have signed: he is at his prayers three times each day.'	14 La qual parola udendo il re, fu assai contristato, e pose l'animo suo per Daniele acciò che lo potesse liberare, e sino al tramontare del sole s' affaticava di liberarlo.
15 When the king heard these words he was deeply distressed and determined to save Daniel; he rackedhis brains until sunset to find some way to save him.	15 E quelli uomini, intendendo lo re, dissero a lui sappi, re, che la legge delli Medi e delli Persi è, che ogni statuto, lo quale lo re ordina, non è lecito di mutarlo.
16 But the men kept pressing the king, 'Your Majesty, remember that in conformity with the law of theMedes and the Persians, no edict or decree can be altered when once issued by the king.'	16 Allora il re comandò, e condussero Daniele, e posero nel lago de' leoni. Disse il re a Daniele: lo Dio, lo quale tu adori sempre, lui ti libererà.
17 The king then ordered Daniel to be brought and thrown into the lion pit. The king said to Daniel, 'YourGod, whom you have served so faithful y, wil have to save you.'	17 E fu portato uno sasso (grande), e fu posto alla bocca dei lago, lo quale sigillò lo re con lo suo sigillo, e con lo sigillo delli suoi principi, acciò. che non si facesse alcuna cosa contra Daniele.
18 A stone was then brought and laid over the mouth of the pit; and the king sealed it with his own signetand with that of his noblemen, so that there could be no going back on the original decision about Daniel.	18 E andò il re nella casa sua; dormì sanza cena, e non vi fur portati i cibi dinanzi a lui, e oltra questo non poteo dormire.
19 The king returned to his palace, spent the night in fasting and refused to receive any of hisconcubines. Sleep eluded him,	19 E venuta la mattina, si levò lo re per tempo, e (desiderando di sapere quello ch' era intervenuto di Daniele) se n' andò in fretta al lago de' leoni.
20 and at the first sign of dawn he got up and hurried to the lion pit.	20 E appropinquando al lago, chiamò Daniele con una voce lacrimabile, e disseli: Daniele, servo di Dio vivente, lo Dio tuo, allo quale tu servi sempre, pensi tu che ti abbi potuto liberare dai leoni?
21 As he approached the pit he cal ed in anguished tones to Daniel, 'Daniel, servant of the living God!Has your God, whom you serve so faithful y, been able to save you from the lions?'	21 E Daniel rispose al re, e disse: re, vivi in eterno.
22 Daniel answered the king, 'May Your Majesty live for ever!	22 Lo mio Dio ha mandato l'angelo suo, e ha chiuso le bocche de' leoni, e non mi hanno punto danneggiato; però che dinanzi a lui non è stata trovata alcuna iniquità [in me]; ma anco dinanzi a te, re, non ho fatto alcuno mancamento.
23 My God sent his angel who sealed the lions' jaws; they did me no harm, since in his sight I amblameless; neither have I ever done you any wrong, Your Majesty.'	23 Allora lo re con grandissima letizia comandò che fosse tratto fuori. Daniele del lago; e fu tratto fuori Daniele del lago, e non vi fu trovata alcuna lesione in lui, però che credette al Dio suo.
24 The king was overjoyed and ordered Daniel to be released from the pit. Daniel was released from thepit and found to be quite unhurt, because he had trusted in his God.	24 E dopo questo comandò il re, che fossono menati quegli uomini che aveano accusato Daniele, e feceli ponere nel lago de' leoni, e li suoi figliuoli e mogliere loro; e non pervennero persino al pavimento del lago; furono dalli leoni tutti divorati, le loro ossa tutte spezzate.
25 The king then sent for the men who had accused Daniel and had them thrown into the lion pit, andtheir wives and children too; and before they reached the floor of the pit the lions had seized them and crushedtheir bones to pieces.	25 In quel tempo lo re Dario (per questo fatto) scrisse a tutti li popoli, nazioni e lingue, che abitavano sopra tutta la terra: la pace sia multiplicata in voi.
26 King Darius then wrote to al nations, peoples and languages dwel ing throughout the world: 'May youprosper more and more!	26 Da me è stata fatta una legge (e uno statuto), che in tutto lo mio imperio e regno mio tutti temino e adorino lo Dio di Daniele; però che lui è Dio vivo ed eterno per tutti i secoli; e lo suo regno non sarà dissipato, e la sua potenza sarà in eterno.
27 This is my decree: Throughout every dominion of my realm, let al tremble with fear before the God ofDaniel: He is the living God, he endures for ever, his kingdom wil never be destroyed and his empire nevercome to an end.	27 Esso è liberatore e salvatore, lo quale fa segni (grandi) e cose maravigliose in cielo e in terra; lo quale liberò Daniele dello lago delli leoni.
28 He saves, sets free, and works signs and wonders in the heavens and on earth; he has saved Danielfrom the power of the lions.'	28 E dopo questo Daniele perseverò persino al regno di Dario, e al regno di Ciro re de' Persi.
29 This Daniel flourished in the reign of Darius and the reign of Cyrus the Persian.
