Sirach 48

NEW JERUSALEM	Biblija Hrvatski
1 Then the prophet Elijah arose like a fire, his word flaring like a torch.	1 I usta prorok Ilija kao oganj, riječ mu plamtjela kao buktinja.
2 It was he who brought famine on them and decimated them in his zeal.	2 On je na njih donio glad i revnošću je svojom umanjio njihov broj.
3 By the word of the Lord he shut up the heavens, three times also he brought down fire.	3 Po riječi je Božjoj nebo zatvorio i tri puta oganj s neba sveo.
4 How glorious you were in your miracles, Elijah! Has anyone reason to boast as you have? -	4 Kako li si strašan bio, Ilija, u čudesima svojim! I može li se itko dičiti koliko ti?
5 rousing a corpse from death, from Sheol, by the word of the Most High;	5 Podigao si mrtva od smrti iz podzemlja po riječi Svevišnjeg.
6 dragging kings down to destruction, and high dignitaries from their beds;	6 Bacio si u propast kraljeve i vukao odličnike s odra njihova.
7 hearing a rebuke on Sinai and decrees of punishment on Horeb;	7 Na Sinaju si čuo ukore i sud osvetni na Horebu.
8 anointing kings as avengers, and prophets to succeed you;	8 Pomazao si kraljeve osvetničke i proroka sebi za nasljednika.
9 taken up in the whirlwind of fire, in a chariot with fiery horses;	9 Podignut si bio u vihoru ognja, u kolima s plamenim konjima.
10 designated in the prophecies of doom to allay God's wrath before the fury breaks, to turn the hearts offathers towards their children, and to restore the tribes of Jacob.	10 Određen si u prijetnjama budućim da umiriš srdžbu Božju prije no što ona provali, da obratiš srca otačka sinovima i da obnoviš plemena Jakovljeva.
11 Blessed, those who wil see you, and those who have fal en asleep in love; for we too shal certainlyhave life.	11 Blago onomu koji će te vidjeti i onima koji su usnuli u ljubavi, jer i mi ćemo posjedovati život.
12 Such was Elijah, who was enveloped in a whirlwind; and Elisha was fil ed with his spirit; throughout hislife no ruler could shake him, and no one could subdue him.	12 Kad je vihor zastro Iliju, napuni se duhom njegovim Elizej: za života ga nijedan vladar ne mogaše pobijediti i nitko ga ne mogaše podjarmiti.
13 No task was too hard for him, and even in death his body prophesied.	13 Ništa mu ne bijaše teško, i iz groba mu je tijelo prorokovalo.
14 In his lifetime he performed wonders, and in death his works were marvel ous.	14 Za života je čudesa činio, a u smrti svojoj djela divotna.
15 Despite al this the people did not repent, nor did they give up their sins, until they were herded out oftheir country and scattered al over the earth;	15 Ali se kraj svega toga narod nije pokajao niti se ostavio grijeha svojih, dok ne bî izagnan iz domaje i rasijan po svim zemljama svijeta;
16 only a few of the people were left, with a ruler of the House of David. Some of them did what pleasedthe Lord, others piled sin on sin.	16 samo je nešto ljudi ostalo, s vladarom iz kuće Davidove. Neki su od njih pravo činili pred Gospodom, a drugi opet gomilahu grijeh na grijeh.
17 Hezekiah fortified his city, and laid on a water-supply inside it; with iron he tunnelled through the rockand constructed storage-tanks.	17 Ezekija utvrdi grad svoj i dovede vodu sred njega, željezom prokopa pećine i sagradi spremišta vodena.
18 In his days Sennacherib invaded and sent Rabshakeh; he lifted his hand against Zion, and boastedloudly in his arrogance.	18 Za vijeka se njegova diže Sanherib i posla Rabsaka, koji diže ruku na Sion i u oholosti svojoj huljaše.
19 Then their hearts and hands trembled, they felt the pangs of a woman in labour,	19 Tada su im drhtala srca i ruke i podnosili su muke kao žene u trudovima;
20 but they cal ed on the merciful Lord, stretching out their hands towards him. Swiftly the Holy Oneheard them from heaven and delivered them by the agency of Isaiah;	20 ali prizvaše milostivog Boga i podigoše ruke svoje prema njemu. I Sveti je s neba brzo uslišio njihov glas i spasio ih rukom Izaijinom,
21 he struck the camp of the Assyrians and his Angel annihilated them.	21 razbio je logor asirski, i njegov ih anđeo sve pobi.
22 For Hezekiah did what is pleasing to the Lord, and was steadfast in the ways of David his father,enjoined on him by the prophet Isaiah, a great man trustworthy in his vision.	22 Jer je Ezekija činio što je Gospodu milo i držao se putova Davida, oca svojeg, kako mu je zapovjedio prorok Izaija, velik i pouzdan u viđenju svojem.
23 In his days the sun moved back; he prolonged the life of the king.	23 U dane se njegove sunce povratilo, on je kralju produžio život.
24 In the power of the spirit he saw the last things, he comforted the mourners of Zion,	24 U silini duha vidio je stvari posljednje i tješio je žalobne na Sionu.
25 he revealed the future to the end of time, and hidden things long before they happened.	25 Objavio je budućnost sve do kraja vremena i najavio tajne stvari prije nego se dogodiše.
