1 Do you know when mountain goats give birth? Have you ever watched deer in labour?	1 Or conoscesti lo [tempo del] parto della cicogna partoriente nelle pietre, e le partorienti cerve osservasti?
2 Have you ever counted the months that they carry their young? Do you know when they give birth?	2 Annumerasti li mesi dello loro concepimento, e sapesti lo tempo dello loro parto?
3 They crouch to drop their young, they get rid of their burdens	3 Inchinansi [al] lo parto, e partoriscono, e mandano ruggiti.
4 and the calves, having grown big and strong, go off into the desert and never come back to them.	4 Spartonsi li loro figliuoli, e vanno a pascere; e non tornano a loro.
5 Who has given the wild donkey his freedom, who has undone the harness of the brayer?	5 Chi lasciò l'asino libero, e li suoi legami chi discioglie?
6 I have given him the wastelands as his home, the salt plain as his habitat.	6 A cui diedi nella solitudine la casa, e li suoi tabernacoli nella terra di salsedine.
7 He scorns the turmoil of the town, obeys no donkey-man's shouts.	7 Dispregia la moltitudine della cittade, lo grido dello riscotitore non ode.
8 The mountains are the pastures that he ranges in quest of anything green.	8 Ragguarda li monti della sua pastura, e domanda tutte le cose virenti.
9 Is the wild ox willing to serve you or spend a night beside your manger?	9 Or vorrà lo unicorno servire a te, ovvero starà alla tua mangiatoia?
10 If you tie a rope round his neck wil he harrow the furrows for you?	10 O ligherai lo unicorno alla tua brena per arare? ovver romperà la terra delle valli dopo a te?
11 Can you rely on his massive strength and leave him to do your heavy work?	11 Or (non) avrai tu fidanza nella sua grande fortezza, e lascerai a lui le tue (grandi) fatiche?
12 Can you depend on him to come home and pile your grain on your threshing-floor?	12 Or (non) crederai tu a lui, quando ti renderà la sementa, e l'aja tua ragunerà?
13 Can the wing of the ostrich be compared with the plumage of stork or falcon?	13 La penna dello struzzo è simile alle penne dello erodio e dello sparviero,
14 She leaves her eggs on the ground with only earth to warm them;	14 lo quale abbandona nella terra l' uova sue; forse che tu le riscaldi nella polvere?
15 forgetting that a foot may tread on them or a wild animal crush them.	15 Dimènticasi che lo piede le conculca, o che le bestie del campo le schiacciano.
16 Cruel to her chicks as if they were not hers, little she cares if her labour goes for nothing.	16 Durerà a' suoi figliuoli, quasi come non sieno suoi; indarno s' affaticò, non lo costrignendo alcuno [timore].
17 God, you see, has deprived her of wisdom and given her no share of intel igence.	17 E Iddio la privò della sapienza, nè non li diede intelligenza.
18 Yet, if she bestirs herself to use her height, she can make fools of horse and rider too.	18 Quando lo tempo sarae, in alto l' ale dirizza; fassi beffe dello cavallo e dello suo salitore.
19 Are you the one who makes the horse so brave and covers his neck with flowing mane?	19 Or darai tu allo cavallo la forza, ovvero intornierai allo collo suo lo (suo) innito (ovver grido)?
20 Do you make him leap like a grasshopper? His haughty neighing inspires terror.	20 Ovvero susciterai lui, quasi come grilli? la gloria delli nasi suoi è paura.
21 Exultantly he paws the soil of the val ey, and charges the battle-line in all his strength.	21 Coll' unghia la terra cava, e rallegrasi arditamente, e va incontra agli armati.
22 He laughs at fear; he is afraid of nothing, he recoils before no sword.	22 Spregia lo spaventamento, nè dà luogo al coltello.
23 On his back the quiver rattles, the flashing spear and javelin.	23 Sopra lui suonerà lo carcasso, e rilucerà l'asta e lo scudo.
24 Trembling with impatience, he eats up the miles; when the trumpet sounds, there is no holding him.	24 Stridando e gridando inghiottirà la terra, nè non reputa lo rumore dello suonare della tromba.
25 At each trumpet blast he neighs exultantly. He scents the battle from afar, the thundering of thecommanders and the war cry.	25 Ove udirà li corni dirà, rallegrandosi dalla lunga presente è la battaglia, e lo confortare delli duchi e lo urlare dell' oste.
26 Is it your wisdom that sets the hawk flying when he spreads his wings to travel south?	26 Or per la tua sapienza metterai la piuma allo sparviero, spandente le sue ali all' austro?
27 Does the eagle soar at your command to make her eyrie in the heights?	27 Ovvero al tuo comandamento leverassi l'aquila, e nelli luoghi alti porrà lo suo nido?
28 She spends her nights among the crags with a needle of rock as her fortress,	28 Nelle pietre sta, e nelli luoghi pericolosi dimora, e nelli sassi alti dove non vi si puote andare.
29 from which she watches for prey, fixing it with her far-ranging eye.	29 Quivi contempla l'esca (a lui), e dalla lunga gli occhii suoi guardano.
30 Even her young drink blood; where anyone has been killed, she is there.	30 Li suoi figliuoli leccano lo sangue; e dovunque sarà lo corpo morto, incontanente vi giugne.
	31 E aggiunse Iddio, e favellò a Iob:
	32 Or colui che contende con Dio, così agevolmente sta cheto? Adunque colui che riprende il nostro Signore Iddio, sì debbe risponder a lui.
	33 Rispose Iob, e disse al Signore:
	34 Quello che favellai lievemente, che posso io rispondere? La mia mano porrò sopra la mia bocca.
	35 Una cosa favellai, che Dio il volesse ch' io non l'avessi detta; e un' altra cosa, alle quali non vi aggiugneroe.
