Job 31

1 I had made an agreement with my eyes not to linger on any virgin.	1 Feci io patto cogli occhi miei, acciò ch' io in verità non pensassi della vergine.
2 Now what portion does God al ot from above, what fate does Shaddai apportion from his heaven-	2 Adunque che parte avrebbe Iddio di sopra a me, e la ereditade all' Onnipotente di cose eccelse?
3 if not the disasters appropriate to the wicked and the calamities fit for evil-doers?	3 Or non è perdizione al malvagio, e alienazione a coloro che òperano la ingiustizia?
4 But surely he sees how I behave, does he not count all my steps?	4 Or non considera elli le mie vie, e tutti li andamenti miei annumera?
5 Have I been a fel ow-travel er with falsehood, or hastened my steps towards deceit?	5 Se io andai nella vanitade, e affrettossi lo piede mio in inganno;
6 Let him weigh me on accurate scales: then he, God, will recognise my integrity!	6 pona me nella giusta statera, e sappia Iddio la mia simplicitade.
7 If my feet have wandered from the rightful path, or if my eyes have led my heart astray, or if my handsare smirched with any stain,	7 Se si partì l'andamento mio della via, se seguitò l'occhio mio il cuore, e nelle mie mani s'appiccò macchia;
8 let someone else eat what I have sown and let my young shoots all be rooted out.	8 seminarò, e uno altro mangerà; e la mia schiatta sarà deradicata.
9 If my heart has been seduced by a woman, or if I have lurked at my neighbour's door,	9 Se ingannato è lo cuore mio sopra la femina, e se io assediai l'uscio dell' amico mio;
10 let my wife go and grind for someone else, let others have intercourse with her!	10 meretrice sia di un altro la moglie mia, e sopra quella si distendano gli. altri.
11 For I would have committed a sin of lust, a crime punishable by the law,	11 Certo questo è fellonia, e massima iniquitade.

14 what shal I do, when God stands up? What shal I say, when he holds his assize?	14 che adunque faroe, quando si leverae Iddio a giudicare? e quando addomanderae, che responderò a lui?
15 Did he not create them in the womb like me, the same God forming us in the womb?	15 Or non fece me nel ventre, il quale e quello fece, e formò me uno nella vulva?
16 Have I been insensible to the needs of the poor, or let a widow's eyes grow dim?	16 Se io negai alli poveri quello che vole ano, e feci aspettare l'occhio della vedova;
17 Have I eaten my bit of bread on my own without sharing it with the orphan?	17 se io mangiai la mia fetta solo, e non mangioe lo pupillo di quella;
18 I, whom God has fostered father-like from childhood, and guided since I left my mother's womb,	18 perciò che dalla mia fanciullezza crescè meco la miserazione, e del ventre della madre mia venne meco;
19 have I ever seen a wretch in need of clothing, or the poor with nothing to wear,	19 se disprezzai colui che passava, per ch' elli non avea il vestire, e lo povero sanza coprimento;
20 without his having cause to bless me from his heart, as he felt the warmth of the fleece from mylambs?	20 se non benedissero me li lati suoi, e della lana delle pecore mie s'è riscaldato;
21 Have I raised my hand against an orphan, presuming on my credit at the gate?	21 s' io levai sopra lo pupillo la mia mano, eziandio quando vedeva[mi] superiore nella porta;
22 If so, let my shoulder fal from its socket, let my arm break off at the elbow!	22 l'omero mio delle sue giunture caggia, e lo mio braccio colle sue ossa sieno contrite.
23 For the terror of God would fal on me and I could not then stand my ground before his majesty.	23 Certo sempre, sì come onde di mare gonfiate sopra me, temetti Iddio, e lo suo carico non potei portare.
24 Have I put my faith in gold, saying to fine gold, 'Ah, my security'?	24 S' io pensai che l'oro fosse mia fortezza, e all' oro ottimo e risplendente dissi: tu sei la fidanza mia;
25 Have I ever gloated over my great wealth, or the riches that my hands have won?	25 s' io mi rallegrai sopra le molte mie ricchezze, e perciò che più cose trovò la mia mano;
26 Or has the sight of the sun in its glory, or the glow of the moon as it walked the sky,	26 s' io vidi lo sole quando risplendea, e la luna andante chiaramente;
27 secretly stolen my heart, so that I blew them a kiss?	27 e rallegrato è in ascoso lo mio cuore, e basciai la mia mano colla mia bocca;
28 That too would be a criminal offence, to have denied the supreme God.	28 la quale è massima iniquitade, e negazione contro a Dio altissimo;
29 Have I rejoiced at my enemy's misfortune, or exulted when disaster overtook him? -	29 S' io mi rallegrai della rovina di colui che mi odiava, e rallegra'mi di colui, che li fosse venuto male;
30 I, who would not allow my tongue to sin or to lay his life under a curse.	30 in veritade io non diedi al peccare la mia gola, acciò ch' io addomandassi maledicente l' anima sua;
31 The people of my tent, did they not say, 'Will anyone name a person whom he has not fil ed withmeat?'	31 se non dissero gli uomini del mio tabernacolo chi ci darae della carne sua acciò che noi ci saziamo?
32 No stranger ever had to sleep outside, my door was always open to the traveller.	32 di fuori non stette lo peregrino; l'uscio mio si manifestò allo viandante;
33 Have I ever concealed my transgression from others or kept my fault a secret in my breast?	33 s'io nascosi, quasi come uomo, lo mio peccato, e celai nello seno mio la mia iniquitade;
34 Have I ever stood in fear of common gossip, or dreaded any family's contempt, and so kept quiet, notventuring out of doors?	34 se io mi spaventai alla troppo moltitudine, e lo disprezzo delli più prossimi spaurì me; e non maggiormente tacetti, e non uscii fuori dell' uscio;
35 Will no one give me a hearing? I have said my last word; now let Shaddai reply! When my adversaryhas drafted his writ against me	35 chi darà a me auditore, acciò che l' Onnipotente oda il mio desiderio; e lo libro scriva colui che giudica;
36 I shall wear it on my shoulder, and bind it round my head like a royal turban.	36 acciò che collo mio omero lo porti, e poni intorno a quello, sì come corona a me?
37 I shall give him an account of my every step and go as boldly as a prince to meet him.End of thewords of Job.	37 Per tutti li miei gradi pronunzierò quello, e sì come a principe io offerirò lui.
38 If my land cries for vengeance against me and its furrows weep in concert,	38 Se contro a me la mia terra grida, e con lei gli solchi suoi piangono;
39 if I have eaten its produce without paying, and caused the death of its owners,	39 se li frutti suoi mangiai sanza pecunia, l'anima delli lavoratori tormentai;
40 let brambles grow instead of wheat, rank weeds instead of barley!	40 per lo grano naschi a me lo tribolo, e per l'orzo la spina.
