Exodus 17

NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 The whole community of Israelites left the desert of Sin, travel ing by stages as Yahweh ordered. Theypitched camp at Rephidim where there was no water for the people to drink.	1 POI tutta la raunanza de’ figliuoli d’Israele si partì dal deserto di Sin, movendosi da un luogo all’altro, secondo il comandamento del Signore: e si accampò in Refidim. Or non vi era acqua per lo bere del popolo.
2 The people took issue with Moses for this and said, 'Give us water to drink.' Moses replied, 'Why takeissue with me? Why do you put Yahweh to the test?'	2 E il popolo contese con Mosè, e disse: Dateci dell’acqua da bere. E Mosè disse loro: Perchè contendete voi meco? e perchè tentate il Signore?
3 But tormented by thirst, the people complained to Moses. 'Why did you bring us out of Egypt,' theysaid, 'only to make us, our children and our livestock, die of thirst?'	3 Avendo adunque il popolo quivi sete di acqua, mormorò contro a Mosè, e disse: Perchè ci hai fatti salire fuor di Egitto, per far morir di sete, noi, i nostri figliuoli, e i nostri bestiami?
4 Moses appealed to Yahweh for help. 'How am I to deal with this people?' he said. 'Any moment nowthey will stone me!'	4 E Mosè gridò al Signore, dicendo: Che farò io a questo popolo? tantosto mi lapideranno.
5 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Go on ahead of the people, taking some of the elders of Israel with you;in your hand take the staff with which you struck the River, and go.	5 E il Signore disse a Mosè: Passa davanti al popolo, e prendi teco degli Anziani d’Israele; piglia eziandio in mano la bacchetta con la quale tu percuotesti il fiume, e va’.
6 I shal be waiting for you there on the rock (at Horeb). Strike the rock, and water wil come out for thepeople to drink.' This was what Moses did, with the elders of Israel looking on.	6 Ecco, io starò ivi davanti a te sopra la roccia in Horeb; e tu percuoterai la roccia, e d’essa uscirà acqua, e il popolo berrà. E Mosè fece così alla vista degli Anziani d’Israele.
7 He gave the place the names Massah and Meribah because of the Israelites' contentiousness andbecause they put Yahweh to the test by saying, 'Is Yahweh with us, or not?'	7 E pose nome a quel luogo Massa, e Meriba, per la contesa de’ figliuoli d’Israele; e perchè essi aveano tentato il Signore, dicendo: Il Signore è egli nel mezzo di noi, o no?
8 The Amalekites then came and attacked Israel at Rephidim.	8 ALLORA gli Amalechiti vennero per combattere contro agl’Israeliti, in Refidim.
9 Moses said to Joshua, 'Pick some men and tomorrow morning go out and engage Amalek. I, for mypart, shal take my stand on the hil top with the staff of God in my hand.'	9 E Mosè, disse a Giosuè: Sceglici degli uomini, ed esci fuori, e combatti contro agli Amalechiti; domani io mi fermerò in su la sommità del colle, avendo la bacchetta di Dio in mano.
10 Joshua did as Moses had told him and went out to engage Amalek, while Moses, Aaron and Hurwent up to the top of the hil .	10 E Giosuè fece come Mosè gli avea comandato, combattendo contro agli Amalechiti. E Mosè, Aaronne, e Hur, salirono in su la sommità del colle.
11 As long as Moses kept his arms raised, Israel had the advantage; when he let his arms fall, theadvantage went to Amalek.	11 Or avvenne, che quando Mosè alzava la sua mano, gl’Israeliti vincevano; ma, quando egli la posava, gli Amalechiti vincevano.
12 But Moses' arms grew heavy, so they took a stone and put it under him and on this he sat, withAaron and Hur supporting his arms on each side. Thus his arms remained unwavering til sunset,	12 Or essendo le mani di Mosè pesanti, Aaronne, ed Hur, presero una pietra, e la misero sotto lui, ed egli vi si pose sopra a sedere; ed Aaronne, e Hur, gli sostenevano le mani, l’un di qua, e l’altro di là; e così le sue mani furono ferme fino al tramontar del sole.
13 and Joshua defeated Amalek, putting their people to the sword.	13 E Giosuè ruppe gli Amalechiti, e la lor gente, e li mise a fil di spada.
14 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Write this down in a book to commemorate it, and repeat it over toJoshua, for I shal blot out al memory of Amalek under heaven.'	14 E il Signore disse a Mosè: Scrivi questa cosa per ricordanza, nel libro; e metti nell’orecchie di Giosuè che io del tutto spegnerò la memoria di Amalec di sotto al cielo.
15 Moses then built an altar and named it Yahweh-Nissi	15 E Mosè edificò un altare, al quale pose nome: Il Signore è la mia bandiera.
16 meaning, 'Lay hold of Yahweh's banner! Yahweh wil be at war with Amalek generation aftergeneration.'	16 E disse: Certo, e’ v’è una mano in sul trono del Signore, che il Signore avrà per ogni età guerra con Amalec
