Genesis 23

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 The length of Sarah's life was a hundred and twenty-seven years.	1 E vivette Sara Cxxvii anni.
2 She died at Kiriath-Arba -- now Hebron -- in the land of Canaan, and Abraham proceeded to mournand bewail her.	2 E morta è nella città di Arbee, la quale è in Ebron nella terra di Canaan. E venne Abraam, acciò che si lamentasse e piagnesse lei.
3 Then rising from beside his dead, Abraham spoke to the Hittites,	3 E quando egli si levò dall'officio della morte, favelloe a figliuoli di Et, dicendo:
4 'I am a stranger resident here,' he said. 'Let me have a burial site of my own here, so that I canremove my dead for burial.'	4 Forestiere e peregrino sono appresso voi; datemi ragione del sepolcro con esso voi, acciò ch' io seppellisca lo morto mio.
5 The Hittites replied to Abraham,	5 E rispuosero gli figliuoli di Et, e dissero:
6 'Please listen to us, my lord, we regard you as a prince of God; bury your dead in the best of ourtombs; not one of us would refuse you his tomb for you to bury your dead.'	6 Odi noi, signore; principe di Dio sei tu appresso noi; negli eletti sepolcri nostri seppellisci lo morto tuo; e niuno non lo potrà vietare, che nel monumento suo sotterri lo morto tuo.
7 At this, Abraham rose and bowed low to the local people, the Hittites,	7 Levossi Abraam, e adorò lo popolo della terra, cioè i figliuoli d'Et.
8 and pleaded with them as fol ows, 'If you consent to my removing my dead for burial, you must agreeto intercede for me with Ephron son of Zohar,	8 E disse a loro: se piace all'anime vostre, ch' io sotterri lo morto mio, uditemi e andate presso di Efron, figliuolo di Seor,
9 for him to let me have the cave he owns at Machpelah, which is on the edge of his field. Let him sel itto me in your presence at its ful price, for a burial site of my own.'	9 che dia a me sepoltura doppia, la quale hae nelle streme parti del campo suo; con degna pecunia la mi venda quella a me, innanzi a voi, in possessione del sepolcro.
10 Now Ephron was sitting among the Hittites, and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the hearingof the Hittites, of al the inhabitants of his town.	10 Ed abitava Efron nel mezzo de' figliuoli d'Et. E rispuose Efron ad Abraam, innanzi a tutti coloro i quali entrarono per la porta di quella cittade, dicente:
11 'No, my lord, listen to me,' he said. 'I give you the field and the cave in it; I make this gift in thepresence of my kinsmen. Bury your dead.'	11 Mainò si farà così, mio Signore, ma maggiormente ascolta questo ch' io favello: lo campo do a te, e la spelunca ch' è in quello, presenti i figliuoli del popolo mio, seppellisci lo morto tuo.
12 Abraham bowed low to the local people	12 Adorò Abraam innanzi (al Signore ed) al popolo della terra.
13 and, in the hearing of the local people, replied to Ephron as fol ows, 'Be good enough to listen to me.I shal pay the price of the field; accept it from me and I shal bury my dead there.'	13 E favelloe ad Efron, istantevi il popolo intorno: io t'addomando che tu oda a me; io ti darò la pecunia per lo campo; tuogli quella, e così sotterrerò lo morto mio in quello.
14 Ephron replied to Abraham,	14 Rispuose Efron:
15 'Please listen to me, my lord. What is a plot of land for four hundred shekels of silver between meand you? Bury your dead.'	15 Signore mio, odi: la terra che tu addomandi CCCC sicli d'ariento vale; questo prezzo intra te e me; ma quanto è questa cosa? sotterra lo morto tuo.
16 Abraham agreed to Ephron's terms, and Abraham weighed out for Ephron the silver he hadstipulated in the hearing of the Hittites, namely four hundred shekels of silver, according to the currentcommercial rate.	16 La quale cosa quando l'udì Abraam, tolse la pecunia che Efron avea chiesta, udendo li figliuoli di Et; CCCC sicli d'ariento serbato e di moneta publica diede a lui.
17 Thus Ephron's field at Machpelah, facing Mamre -- the field and the cave in it and al the treesanywhere within the boundaries of the field -- passed	17 E confermato è lo campo che fu di Efron, nello quale era la spelonca doppia riguardando verso Mambre; così egli come la spelonca ed ogni àlbore suo, in tutti termini per giro,
18 into Abraham's possession in the sight of the Hittites, of al the inhabitants of his town.	18 ad Abraam in possessione (ebbe), videnti li figliuoli di Et e tutti coloro che entravano per la porta di quella città.
19 And after this, Abraham buried his wife Sarah in the cave of the field of Machpelah, facing Mamre --now Hebron -- in the land of Canaan.	19 E così seppelli Abraam Sara sua moglie nella spelonca del campo doppia, lo quale riguardava verso Mambre, la quale è in Ebron nella terra Canaan.
20 And so the field and the cave in it passed from the Hittites into Abraham's possession as a burial siteof his own.	20 E confermato è lo campo, e l'entrata ch' era in quello, ad Abraam in possessione del monumento delli figliuoli di Et.
