1 The LORD said to Moses,	1 Промовив Господь до Мойсея:
2 "Tell Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, to remove the censers from the embers; and scatter the fire some distance away,	2 «Скажи Єлеазарові, синові Арона священика, щоб вигребав з пожарища кадильниці та геть струсив з них жар, вони бо посвячені.
3 for these sinners have consecrated the censers at the cost of their lives. Have them hammered into plates to cover the altar, because in being presented before the LORD they have become sacred. In this way they shall serve as a sign to the Israelites."	3 З кадильниць отих людей, що проти самих себе згрішили, нехай зроблять тонко ковані бляшки на покриття жертовника, бо їх принесено до Господа, і вони стали святими; будуть вони знаком для синів Ізраїля.»
4 So Eleazar the priest had the bronze censers of those burned during the offering hammered into a covering for the altar,	4 Узяв Єлеазар священик мідяні кадильниці, що їх були принесли ті, які згоріли, та й посплощував їх на покриття жертовника,
5 in keeping with the orders which the LORD had given him through Moses. This cover was to be a reminder to the Israelites that no layman, no one who was not a descendant of Aaron, should approach the altar to offer incense before the LORD, lest he meet the fate of Korah and his band.	5 на спомин синам Ізраїля, щоб ніхто чужий, хто не з потомства Арона, не приступав кадити перед Господом і щоб і з ним не сталось, як із Корахом та його прибічниками, — як ото Господь йому був заповідав через Мойсея.
6 The next day the whole Israelite community grumbled against Moses and Aaron, saying, "It is you who have slain the LORD'S people."	6 Другого дня вся громада синів Ізраїля стала нарікати на Мойсея та Арона, кажучи: «Погубили ви люд Господній.»
7 But while the community was deliberating against them, Moses and Aaron turned toward the meeting tent, and the cloud now covered it and the glory of the LORD appeared.	7 І коли громада збиралася проти Мойсея та Арона, вони звернулись до намету зборів, і ось хмара вкрила його, й з’явилася слава Господня.
8 Then Moses and Aaron came to the front of the meeting tent,	8 Мойсей та Арон підступили до намету зборів.
9 and the LORD said to Moses and Aaron,	9 Промовив Господь до Мойсея:
10 "Depart from this community, that I may consume them at once." But they fell prostrate.	10 «Відійдіть від цієї громади, я погублю їх в одну мить!» І впали вони обличчям до землі.
11 Then Moses said to Aaron, "Take your censer, put fire from the altar in it, lay incense on it, and bring it quickly to the community to make atonement for them; for wrath has come forth from the LORD and the blow is falling."	11 Мовив Мойсей до Арона: «Візьми кадильницю та поклади до неї з жертовника жару й насип ладану, і йди чимдуж у громаду та відправ за них покуту, бо спалахнув гнів Господній, і почався мор.»
12 Obeying the orders of Moses, Aaron took his censer and ran in among the community, where the blow was already falling on the people. Then, as he offered the incense and made atonement for the people,	12 Узяв Арон, як сказав Мойсей, кадильницю та й метнувсь у громаду, але мор уже почався між людьми. Насипав він ладану та й заходився справляти покуту за людей.
13 standing there between the living and the dead, the scourge was checked.	13 Стояв він між мертвими й живими, і мор припинився.
14 Yet fourteen thousand seven hundred died from the scourge, in addition to those who died because of Korah.	14 Померло ж від мору 14 700, крім тих, які померли з-за Кораха.
15 When the scourge had been checked, Aaron returned to Moses at the entrance of the meeting tent.	15 І повернувсь Арон до Мойсея, до входу в намет зборів, коли мор припинився.
16 The LORD now said to Moses,	16 Господь промовив до Мойсея:
17 "Speak to the Israelites and get one staff from them for each ancestral house, twelve staffs in all, one from each of their tribal princes. Mark each man's name on his staff;	17 «Скажи синам Ізраїля і візьми від них по палиці, від кожного покоління, від князя кожного покоління, дванадцять палиць. І на палиці кожного напишеш його ім’я.
18 and mark Aaron's name on Levi's staff, for the head of Levi's ancestral house shall also have a staff.	18 Ім’я ж Арона напиши на палиці Леві; одна бо лише буде палиця для голови покоління їхніх батьківських домів.
19 Then lay them down in the meeting tent, in front of the commandments, where I meet you.	19 Потім покладеш їх у наметі зборів, перед свідоцтвом, де я звичайно зустрічаюся з тобою.
20 There the staff of the man of my choice shall sprout. Thus will I suppress from my presence the Israelites' grumbling against you."	20 І станеться так, що палиця того, кого я вибрав, процвіте; і таким робом я втихомирю навколо мене шемрання синів Ізраїля, що нарікають на вас.»
21 So Moses spoke to the Israelites, and their princes gave him staffs, twelve in all, one from each tribal prince; and Aaron's staff was with them.	21 Сказав це Мойсей синам Ізраїля, і подали йому всі їхні князі по палиці від кожного князя, за батьківськими домами їхніми, 12 палиць; і палиця Арона була між їхніми палицями.
22 Then Moses laid the staffs down before the LORD in the tent of the commandments.	22 І поклав Мойсей палиці перед Господом у наметі свідоцтва.
23 The next day, when Moses entered the tent, Aaron's staff, representing the house of Levi, had sprouted and put forth not only shoots, but blossoms as well, and even bore ripe almonds!	23 Другого дня ввійшов Мойсей у намет свідоцтва, аж ось розквітла палиця Арона, з дому Леві: пустила бруньки, зацвіла квітками й вродила стиглі миґдалі.
24 Moses thereupon brought out all the staffs from the LORD'S presence to the Israelites. After each prince identified his own staff and took it,	24 Виніс Мойсей усі палиці з-перед обличчя Господнього до всіх синів Ізраїля, і побачили вони, і кожен узяв свою палицю.
25 the LORD said to Moses, "Put back Aaron's staff in front of the commandments, to be kept there as a warning to the rebellious, so that their grumbling may cease before me; if it does not, they will die."	25 Господь сказав до Мойсея: «Принеси назад Аронову палицю до кивоту завіта, щоб зберегти її як осторогу й ознаку проти синів ворохобних, і нехай припиняться їхні нарікання на мене, щоб не вимерли вони.»
26 And Moses did as the LORD had commanded him.	26 І Мойсей зробив так, як заповідав йому Господь, — так і вчинив він.
27 Then the Israelites cried out to Moses, "We are perishing; we are lost, we are all lost!	27 Сини ж Ізраїля промовили до Мойсея: «Глянь лишень, пропадаємо ми, гинемо, всі ми гинемо!
28 Every time anyone approaches the Dwelling of the LORD, he dies! Are we to perish to the last man?"	28 Хто тільки наблизиться до храмини Господньої, зараз умирає. Чи то ж усім нам загинути дощенту?»
