Hosea 10

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	JERUSALEM
1 Israel is a luxuriant vine whose fruit matches its growth. The more abundant his fruit, the more altars he built; The more productive his land, the more sacred pillars he set up.	1 Israël était une vigne luxuriante, qui donnait bien son fruit. Plus son fruit se multipliait, plus il amultiplié les autels; plus son pays devenait riche, plus riches il a fait les stèles.
2 Their heart is false, now they pay for their guilt; God shall break down their altars and destroy their sacred pillars.	2 Leur coeur est double, maintenant ils vont expier; Lui-même renversera leurs autels, il dévastera leursstèles.
3 If they would say, "We have no king"-- Since they do not fear the LORD, what can the king do for them?	3 Alors ils diront: "Nous n'avons pas de roi, car nous n'avons pas craint Yahvé, mais le roi, quepourrait-il faire pour nous?"
4 Nothing but make promises, swear false oaths, and make alliances, While justice grows wild like wormwood in a plowed field!	4 On tient des discours, on jure en vain, on conclut des alliances; et le droit prospère comme la plantevénéneuse sur le sillon des champs!
5 The inhabitants of Samaria fear for the calf of Beth-aven; The people mourn for it and its priests wail over it, because the glory has departed from it.	5 Pour le veau de Bet-Aven les habitants de Samarie tremblent; oui, sur lui son peuple mène le deuil,ainsi que sa prêtraille: Qu'il exultent sur sa gloire maintenant qu'elle est déportée loin de nous!
6 It too shall be carried to Assyria, as an offering to the great king. Ephraim shall be taken into captivity, Israel be shamed by his schemes.	6 Lui-même, on le transportera en Assur comme tribut pour le grand roi. Ephraïm recueillera la honte,et Israël rougira de son dessein.
7 The king of Samaria shall disappear, like foam upon the waters.	7 C'en est fait de Samarie! Son roi est comme un fétu à la surface de l'eau.
8 The high places of Aven shall be destroyed, the sin of Israel; thorns and thistles shall overgrow their altars. Then they shall cry out to the mountains, "Cover us!" and to the hills, "Fall upon us!"	8 Ils seront détruits, les hauts lieux d'Aven, ce péché d'Israël; épines et chardons grimperont sur leursautels. Ils diront alors aux montagnes: "Couvrez-nous!" et aux collines: "Tombez sur nous!"
9 Since the days of Gibeah you have sinned, O Israel. There they took their stand; war was not to reach them in Gibeah.	9 Depuis les jours de Gibéa, tu as péché, Israël! ils s'en sont tenus là, et la guerre n'atteindrait pas lescriminels à Gibéa?
10 Against the wanton people I came and I chastised them; I gathered troops against them when I chastised them for their two crimes.	10 Je vais venir les punir! Des peuples s'assembleront contre eux quand ils seront punis pour leurs deuxfautes.
11 Ephraim was a trained heifer, willing to thresh; I myself laid a yoke upon her fair neck; Ephraim was to be harnessed, Judah was to plow, Jacob was to break his furrows:	11 Ephraïm est une génisse bien dressée, aimant à fouler l'aire; et moi j'ai fait passer le joug sur son cousuperbe! j'attellerai Ephraïm, Juda labourera, Jacob traînera la herse.
12 "Sow for yourselves justice, reap the fruit of piety; Break up for yourselves a new field, for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain down justice upon you."	12 Faites-vous des semailles selon la justice, moissonnez à proportion de l'amour; défrichez-vous desterres en friche: il est temps de rechercher Yahvé, jusqu'à ce qu'il vienne faire pleuvoir sur vous la justice.
13 But you have cultivated wickedness, reaped perversity, and eaten the fruit of falsehood. Because you have trusted in your chariots, and in your many warriors,	13 Vous avez labouré la méchanceté, vous avez moissonné l'injustice, vous avez mangé le fruit dumensonge. Parce que tu t'es confié dans tes chars, dans la multitude de tes guerriers,
14 Turmoil shall break out among your tribes and all your fortresses shall be ravaged As Salman ravaged Beth-arbel in time of war, smashing mothers and their children.	14 un grondement s'élèvera parmi ton peuple et toutes tes forteresses seront dévastées, comme Shalmândévasta Bet-Arbel, au jour du combat, quand la mère était écrasée sur ses enfants.
15 So shall it be done to you, Bethel, because of your utter wickedness: At dawn the king of Israel shall perish utterly.	15 Voilà ce que vous a fait Béthel, pour votre méchanceté sans nom; à l'aurore, oui, c'en sera fait du roid'Israël!
