1 In the year the general sent by Sargon, king of Assyria, fought against Ashdod and captured it,	1 - Nell'anno che il Tartan venne contro Azoto, mandato da Sargon, re degli Assiri, e diede l'assalto alla città e la prese,
2 the LORD gave a warning through Isaiah, the son of Amoz: Go and take off the sackcloth from your waist, and remove the sandals from your feet. This he did, walking naked and barefoot.	2 in quel tempo il Signore parlò per mezzo d'Isaia, figlio di Amos, dicendo: «Va', svestiti del sacco che hai sui fianchi, e cavati le calzature dai piedi». Ed egli così fece, andando scamiciato e scalzo.
3 Then the LORD said: Just as my servant Isaiah has gone naked and barefoot for three years as a sign and portent against Egypt and Ethiopia,	3 E il Signore disse: «Come il mio servo Isaia è andato nudo e scalzo per tre anni, segno fatidico e prodigioso sopra l'Egitto e l'Etiopia,
4 so shall the king of Assyria lead away captives from Egypt, and exiles from Ethiopia, young and old, naked and barefoot, with buttocks uncovered (the shame of Egypt).	4 così, una turba di schiavi di Egitto, e di esuli d'Etiopia, di giovani e di vecchi, condurrà il re degli Assiri, nuda e scalza colle natiche scoperte, in onta all'Egitto.
5 They shall be dismayed and ashamed because of Ethiopia, their hope, and because of Egypt, their boast.	5 E resteranno sbigottiti e confusi quelli che avranno posto la loro speranza nell'Etiopia e la loro gloria nell'Egitto.
6 The inhabitants of this coastland shall say on that day, "Look at our hope! We have fled here for help and deliverance from the king of Assyria; where can we flee now?"	6 E gli abitanti di questi lidi diranno in quel giorno: - Questa che era la nostra speranza, alla quale avevamo ricorso per aiuto, affinchè ci liberasse dalla presenza del re degli Assiri, eccola, e come potremmo scampare noi? -».
