Sirach 44

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 Now will I praise those godly men, our ancestors, each in his own time:	1 Lodiamo li uomini famosi, e li nostri padri nella generazione sua.
2 The abounding glory of the Most High's portion, his own part, since the days of old. Subduers of the land in kingly fashion, men of renown for their might,	2 Molta gloria fece il Signore nella magnifificenza sua nel secolo.
3 Or counselors in their prudence, or seers of all things in prophecy;	3 Fece uomini signoreggianti nelle loro signorie, uomini grandi di virtude e di sua prudenza; fece uomini profeti annunzianti la degnitade dei profeti,
4 Resolute princes of the folk, and governors with their staves; Authors skilled in composition, and forgers of epigrams with their spikes;	4 e signoreggianti nel presente popolo; (e per virtude fece uomini di prudenza,) ed espuosono al popolo santissime parole.
5 Composers of melodious psalms, or discoursers on lyric themes;	5 Nella sua perizia trovarono li versi musici, e narrarono per li versi le scritture.
6 Stalwart men, solidly established and at peace in their own estates--	6 E fece uomini ricchi ch' ebbono studio nella virtude della bellezza, e fece uomini pacificanti nelle loro case.
7 All these were glorious in their time, each illustrious in his day.	7 Tutti questi nella generazione della gente sua acquistarono gloria (e fama), e nelli suoi dì sono avuti in laude.
8 Some of them have left behind a name and men recount their praiseworthy deeds;	8 E coloro che discesono da loro (nati) lasciarono lo nome narrando le loro laude.
9 But of others there is no memory, for when they ceased, they ceased. And they are as though they had not lived, they and their children after them.	9 E sono di quelli che non n'è memoria; che perirono, sì come loro non fussono nati; e nati sono e quasi non nati, e i figliuoli loro con essi.
10 Yet these also were godly men whose virtues have not been forgotten;	10 Ma quelli sono uomini di misericordia, le cui pietadi non mancarono.
11 Their wealth remains in their families, their heritage with their descendants;	11 E con il seme loro dura la buona ereditade.
12 Through God's covenant with them their family endures, their posterity, for their sake.	12 E la semente dura nelli testamenti de' loro nipoti.
13 And for all time their progeny will endure, their glory will never be blotted out;	13 Eli loro figliuoli per loro permangono infino in sempiterno; il seme loro e la gloria loro non fia abbandonata.
14 Their bodies are peacefully laid away, but their name lives on and on.	14 Li corpi loro sono seppelliti in pace, e la fama loro vive di generazione in generazione.
15 At gatherings their wisdom is retold, and the assembly proclaims their praise.	15 Li popoli narrarono la loro sapienza; e la chiesa annunzia la loro laude.
16 [ENOCH walked with the LORD and was taken up, that succeeding generations might learn by his example.]	16 Enoc piacque a Dio, e fue trasportato in paradiso, acciò ch' egli dia (nella fine del mondo)` alle genti penitenza.
17 NOAH, found just and perfect, renewed the race in the time of devastation. Because of his worth there were survivors, and with a sign to him the deluge ended;	17 Noè fue trovato perfetto e giusto, e nel tempo (del diluvio e) della iracundia fatta è la riconciliazione.
18 A lasting agreement was made with him, that never should all flesh be destroyed.	18 E però fue lasciato il rimanente della terra, quando fu fatto il diluvio.
19 ABRAHAM, father of many peoples, kept his glory without stain:	19 Li testamenti del mondo furono posti appresso colui, acciò che per lo diluvio non potessono disfare ogni carne.
20 He observed the precepts of the Most High, and entered into an agreement with him; In his own flesh he incised the ordinance, and when tested he was found loyal.	20 Il grande padre di molte genti fu Abraam, e non fu trovato simile a lui in fama; il quale conservò la legge dell' altissimo Dio, e fu in testamento con lui.
21 For this reason, God promised him with an oath that in his descendants the nations would be blessed, That he would make him numerous as the grains of dust, and exalt his posterity like the stars; That he would give them an inheritance from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.	21 Nella carne sua fece stare il testamento, e nella tentazione' fu trovato fedele.
22 And for ISAAC he renewed the same promise because of Abraham, his father. The covenant with all his forebears was confirmed, and the blessing rested upon the head of JACOB.	22 Però giurando gli diede gloria nella gente sua, e che crescesse sì come uno monticello di terra;
23 God acknowledged him as the first-born, and gave him his inheritance. He fixed the boundaries for his tribes, and their division into twelve.	23 e che il seme suo esaltasse sì come le stelle, e che loro ereditassono dall' uno mare all' altro, e dal fiume insino alli termini della terra.
	24 E in quello medesimo modo fece Iddio ad Isaac, e ad Abraam suo padre.
	25 Iddio gli diede la benedizione di tutte le genti; e il testamento suo confermoe sopra il capo di Iacob.
	26 E Iddio l'accettoe (Iacob) nelle benedizioni sue, e diedegli la ereditade, e miseli la parte in XII tribù.
	27 E serbogli uomini di misericordia, che trovaron grazia nel conspetto d'ogni carne.
