Sirach 36

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Come to our aid, O God of the universe, and put all the nations in dread of you!	1 Abbi pietà di noi, o Signore, Dio di tutte le cose, e manda il tuo terrore su tutte le nazioni.
2 Raise your hand against the heathen, that they may realize your power.	2 Leva la tua mano contro le nazioni straniere, perché vedano la tua potenza.
3 As you have used us to show them your holiness, so now use them to show us your glory.	3 Come davanti a loro hai mostrato in noi la tua santità, così davanti a noi mostra in loro la tua potenza.
4 Thus they will know, as we know, that there is no God but you.	4 Riconoscano te come noi ti abbiamo riconosciuto, perché non c'è Dio al di fuori di te, o Signore.
5 Give new signs and work new wonders; show forth the splendor of your right hand and arm;	5 Rinnova i segni e ripeti i miracoli, glorifica la tua mano ed il tuo braccio destro.
6 Rouse your anger, pour out wrath, humble the enemy, scatter the foe.	6 Desta il tuo furore e riversa la tua ira, distruggi l'avversario e stermina il nemico.
7 Hasten the day, bring on the time;	7 Accèlera i tempi e ricòrdati del giuramento, perché si raccontino i tuoi prodigi.
8 Let raging fire consume the fugitive, and your people's oppressors meet destruction.	8 Nel fuoco dell'ira si consumi chi era stato risparmiato, quanti maltrattano il tuo popolo trovino la perdizione.
9 crush the heads of the hostile rulers.	9 Stritola le teste dei prìncipi stranieri che dicono: "Non c'è nessuno al di fuori di noi".
10 Gather all the tribes of Jacob, that they may inherit the land as of old,	10 Raccogli tutte le tribù di Giacobbe e prendine possesso come una volta.
11 Show mercy to the people called by your name; Israel, whom you named your first-born.	11 Abbi pietà, Signore, del popolo chiamato col tuo nome, d'Israele, che hai adottato come primo nato.
12 Take pity on your holy city, Jerusalem, your dwelling place.	12 Abbi compassione della città del tuo santuario, di Gerusalemme, luogo del tuo riposo.
13 Fill Zion with your majesty, your temple with your glory.	13 Riempi Sion con la lode delle tue grandi imprese e il tuo tempio con la tua gloria.
14 Give evidence of your deeds of old; fulfill the prophecies spoken in your name,	14 Riconosci ora quelli che hai creato in origine e suscita le profezie che furono fatte nel tuo nome.
15 Reward those who have hoped in you, and let your prophets be proved true.	15 Da' la ricompensa a quanti ti attendono, per dare ragione ai tuoi profeti.
16 Hear the prayer of your servants, for you are ever gracious to your people;	16 Esaudisci, Signore, la supplica dei tuoi servi per la benevolenza che hai con il tuo popolo.
17 Thus it will be known to the very ends of the earth that you are the eternal God.	17 Riconoscano tutti sopra la terra che tu, Signore, sei il Dio dei secoli.
18 The throat can swallow any food, yet some foods are more agreeable than others;	18 Lo stomaco mangia ogni cibo, ma qualche cibo piace più dell'altro.
19 As the palate tests meat by its savor, so does a keen mind insincere words.	19 Come la gola sente il sapore della selvaggina, così il cuore che riflette, le parole bugiarde.
20 A deceitful character causes grief, but an experienced man can turn the tables on him.	20 Il cuore perverso darà dolore, ma l'uomo sperimentato lo ricambierà.
21 Though any man may be accepted as a husband, yet one girl will be more suitable than another:	21 La donna può accettare qualsiasi marito, ma una moglie non è uguale all'altra.
22 A woman's beauty makes her husband's face light up, for it surpasses all else that charms the eye;	22 La bellezza d'una donna rallegra il volto, supera ogni altro desiderio dell'uomo.
23 And if, besides, her speech is kindly, his lot is beyond that of mortal men.	23 Se nella sua lingua c'è bontà e gentilezza, suo marito non è come gli altri uomini.
24 A wife is her husband's richest treasure, a helpmate, a steadying column.	24 Chi prende moglie comincia la sua fortuna, ha un aiuto che gli è simile e una colonna d'appoggio.
25 A vineyard with no hedge will be overrun; a man with no wife becomes a homeless wanderer.	25 Dove manca la siepe, la proprietà è saccheggiata, così dove non c'è moglie, l'uomo erra e geme.
26 Who will trust an armed band that shifts from city to city?	26 Chi avrà fiducia in un soldato girovago, che passa da una città all'altra?
27 Or a man who has no nest, but lodges where night overtakes him?	27 Così è per l'uomo che non ha un nido e che alloggia là dove sopraggiunge la sera.
